Spotted wing drosophila

Anybody else having trouble with these little asian fruit flies? They are the bane of my existence! Showed up in 2008 on our farm and cause me thousands of dollars in damage every year. It is a fruit fly that lays its eggs in ripening fruit of all types. Especially berries! The fruit is then turned into soft vinegary mush in a day or two.

Carl, would you still have a market for your fruit if you were no longer deemed organic.

I remember in 1980, when I was 10, we went to California and got stopped and inspected crossing county lines for fruit, which could harbor Mediterranean Fruit Flies. My dad talked me into eating 7/8ths of a huge honey dew melon and I got very sick on the day we were supposed to see tidal pools, which I really wanted to do. I have still never got to see a stone tidal pool. I developed a food aversion to honey dew and cantaloupe and didn't eat any until a few years ago.
