My $20 redneck boat anchor winch - PICS - 07/04/22 03:16 PM

Had a bunch of Cabelas bucks So I got this 2000# ATV winch. I machined the roller out of some stainless bar I had lying around, made the arm out of an old angle iron bed frame and spent under $20 for stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers. Looks redneck, but I think it's going to work well. grin

I don't think that looks redneck at all. Looks pretty good. Could easily pass for store bought.

Nice job.

Looks good to me.

Make sure to swap out that hook for a more secure shackle.

Yea. My anchor is at least 20 lbs and a slip ring. I fish Erie for perch sometimes, so it's useful.

That wouldn't end well in the tailraces and river I used to fish. Might be fine on a lake or mill pond but that horn goes off or tow comes around the bend you had better be able to cut loose from an anchor quick.

Very nice finster
I live east side of lake Erie, seen a few homemade anchor winches and that looks store bought.
A lot of guys are using spot locks on the bow mount trolling motors now but those are running over 2 grand

Did you reinforce underneath also?

Yes, under the decking is 1/2 inch plywood. So, I made aluminum plates to bolt on underneath to help distribute the force instead of just washers.
