Only good thing is jerry did buy the extended warranty but who knows how long it'll take to get fixed.

If the shop sees the fluid low , they could deny your claim.

Same 2013 Silverado. I change the fluid and filter every 50,000 MILES.
At 205,000 miles the tranny went-pump failure.
Three weeks and $3500 and i was back in business.

My 2009 2500 gmc did that same thing. It ended up being the Transmission Control Module. $600 later I was driving again.

It was a hot day, and the electronics failed in it.

My 2016 has 130k on it and these years are a bit " shifty " at times and I keep expecting it to let loose . So far so good . I got it hot once pulling my trailer up a long slow gravel road in the mountains . The tranny temp hit 276 degrees . It only had 30k on it but I was worried so i had an early transmission service . I had the dealer service it just in case I lost the tranny so they couldn't blame someone else for the service . GM says this tranny can hit 280 degrees without problems . Seems crazy hot to me

Chevrolet is apparently having lots of issues with the 8 speed and 10 speed transmissions in their trucks. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw my 2022 Sierra had a 6 speed in it.

It would be great if there's a recall issue.

My cousins husband bought a new Silverado last year that thing is always in the shop.

And you need to get a set of spark plugs in it @ 100k .

And change the transfer case ,front and rear diff lube too.

Get a new belt tensioner and all new belts..AC..power steering, alt ..

I'd put an aftermarket trans cooler in it.

Re: Transmission went out on my 2019 silverado - 07/21/22 02:18 AM

Maybe a long shot but worth a try. I have a 2003 Buick century that every once in awhile will get a hard shift in it but will go away once you shut it off and drive it again. Happens maybe once a month or so but one time it started slipping and seemed to me was skipping 2 nd gear and went right to 3rd. After searching all over online I came across a bunch saying transmission needed replace but one post said before putting key in ignition, step on gas pedal slowly 4 times and it reset some sensor. I thought was a long shot but I tried it and it worked. That was about 8 months ago and still a hard shift sometimes but the slip has never came back.

I have a 2005 Chevy 1500 4x4 that I swore felt like it was going to have transmission problems not long after I bought it. That thing still has the same transmission, knock on wood. Wife's 2017 Suburban had the transmission replaced a couple of years ago and it feels like it could go again any day.

Jerry just bought a used frontier .so i can still get back and forth to work.
When we get the chevy back well use it to haul hay or whatever and ill still drive the frontier.

Jerry drives a 2021 frontier.hes always driven a nissan.

The ramps paid for the truck so things arent all bad.

Nessie we bought it used with 24,000 miles.

So don't tow/haul in the tow/haul mode? Makes a lot of sense.

That's why I only get manual transmission, I will have to buy a used Cummings since no one has a manual transmission in their new trucks now

I'm with you, automatics are in inferior transmission.

My daily driver has 170,000 miles on it original trans and clutch still.

There are things that can be done with a manual that can't be done with an auto, like rocking it on very slipper surfaces, kick starting for a bad starter or battery and you'll get better gas mileage too.

My old 03 ford truck was auto and I sold it in 2016 with over 300,000 km on it.No major work on the drivetrain, just mtc stuff like u joints ball joints battery etc.
My previous ford-a 93 with inthe line 6 engine same milage same thing.
The truck is still on the road in the next town.

Maybe you got a lemon.

I prefer manuals , but if not abused and maintained automatics can last just as long. I have a Ford truck with 430,000 miles on the original automatic transmission. Fluid changes are a must to get longevity.
