Farthest you traveled to a convention

Farthest you traveled to a convention - 07/28/22 09:29 PM

For me, the most was about 475 miles to Coyote Days in eastern Wyoming. How about you? What is your limit? Do you try to mix in other things to do besides attending the convention? I usually go straight to the convention and come straight back home unless there is something to see directly on the route to and from.

On the other hand the shortest convention for me was a PA convention when it was in Port Royal, that was about 16 miles.

Re: Farthest you traveled to a convention - 07/28/22 11:25 PM

About 1600 miles each way. But that was when I was much younger!!

Made several trips to the WTA in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Also Marshfield when the NTA was there. An NTA in Iowa, one in Kansas, a couple in Minnesota. Most of those were driving. Gas was a lot cheaper then. And they were buying/selling trips, not just socializing.

As far as western conventions, about 700 miles each way when the western NTA was in New Mexico. That was a total DUD of a convention!!

However far it is from St. Joseph, Mo to Marshfield. Three college buds crammed into a single cab manual ford ranger. Back when the coon market was good, we loaded up on duke dps and 1.5s. Flirted with Miss Wisconsin for awhile, got extremely drunk and woke up with standing water and mosquitos in our tent. Pretty good storm blew through that night. Had less than 10 dollars to my name by the time I got back to MO. Good times.

I remember that convention. We too woke up with water in our tent...what little we got to sleep with a wet, disgruntled fox in a cage yapping outside our tent all night, lol.

About 150 one way, do that every year since 2005 to Marshfield. The nationals I have attended have been that far or less.

500+ to Bloomington il. Went to see slim and chrisM give demos, it was worth the drive. Drove 700+ to Ga to take instruction from slim when he started doing instruction again. That was well worth it too.

I do not know the mileage but I left southeastern P A near the Maryland line and drove to Crossville Tenn . in 1984 That was my first NTA convention While we where there we spent some time in and around Nashville and Gatlinburg (Dollywood ,Great Smokey mountains ) At the time I thought the NTA might never be closer to my home We had a great trip The convention was an eye opener considering I had never been to something that was focused around trapping .And the other things we did where enjoyable .However I was dead wrong about the NTA convention being closer to my home .I do not recall the year but sometime after 1984 the convention was held in Clearfield county PA .I was not able to go to that one . And THAN I think is was in 1992 the NTA national convention was held at the York fairgrounds in York PA .That is about 10 miles from my house . I spent several hours through the week helping the PTA set up for the convention and was able to attend all 3 days of the show .It was a lot of fun to see so much trapping related stuff all in one place and almost in my back yard .The world has changed a lot since than and I sure am glad I made time to attend the ones that I was able to go to .

I went to KZOO also...it was very hot and humid. I shot skeet at the gun range there ...I had to beat the heat from melting the clays or else they would melt before I could blast em !
