Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), the biggest battery maker for electric vehicles and a supplier of Tesla, and others, is postponing the announcement of a multi-billion investment in North America as the U.S.-Chinese relations further soured with the visit of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
CATL was prepared to announce plans for an EV battery manufacturing site in North America, but has now delayed that announcement, sources with knowledge of the developments have told Bloomberg.

I'm sure it'll get built eventually, China needs our money, but for now, hehehe..

We don't need EVs when in the end propane or natural gas is better for the environment if that's what this EV hysteria is really all about.

All our city buses proudly display on each side they are fueled by propane because it's so environmental friendly.
Somewhere I read that we can mine natural gas in the US for the next 100+ years. It's that available.

The chip thing we can work around given a bit of time. The batterie situation is more difficult as we don't have the raw materials. Afghanistan has a bunch of the stuff thats needed to make them but .... well need I say more.

Funny I remember good vehicles being made without semi conductor chips. I have a 1990 Mack Truck, no chips that I know of , still making money with it today and I can repair it myself. Maybe the auto makers should start building something other than computers on 4 wheels ?

Would be nice, might start bringing the price of vehicles down a little also.

Problem is we need the chips in so many different things nowadays, Cell phones, TVs, GPS, computers and a million other things. Last talk I heard we were 3-5 years out from being able to produce our own chips at the level that’s needed, and that’s dependent on if we will even be able to get the supplies to produce them.

When we used cars and trucks with carburators, we could get by without the chips. Since about 86, most manufactures awitched over to throttle body, and then in a few years, they switched again to port injection. Since then, everything is computers, and getting worse all the time. The good side of that is vehicles run many more miles, because the cylinders run lean enough that the oil stays on the cylinder walls much better and made a huge difference in how many miles an engine will go before they wear out. The down side, is one, we're at the mercy of the chinese, and two, an EMP will stop life as we know it. Nothing will work that has a chip in it!

We need China and they need us. "Unplugging" battery supplies will not help either side.

We get all our pills and medicine from them as well! They have to be amazed at what a stupid country we are.

They can keep those useless battery's and all the pollution that comes with them over there.

They can keep the ev batteries and we can send them all the ev vehicles as well. Time to tell them to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) off back to where they came from and start re-building our abilities.
