Wedding dress codes...

....are they a new thing.

I just got a wedding invitation; it states, "Dress Code, Modern Renaissance".
So I clicked on the attached QR code to see what "Modern Renaissance" is.

Yikes, what is this world coming to.

Well, you going to share with pics what “Modern Renaissance“ is?

If nice jeans and a button up shirt aren't nice enough then I don't need to be there.

Khakis and a nice button up is about as far as I’ll go unless I’m in the actual wedding.

You might ask before you decide not to go and find out if Dress Code means a suggestion or mandatory. Never heard of such a thing as a dress code. Especially in a larger open wedding.

Also it might just mean dress for women. Lots of unanswered questions in my opinion.

Wear what you usually do and go to the wedding. Trust me you won't be the only one not dressed in whatever "modern Renaissance" is.

I had to look up "modern renaissance clothing". The women's clothing looks nice and varies a lot stylistically. The men's clothing looks like steam punk clothing.

Not really quite my style. Plus it looks like I'd spend a few hundred bucks achieving that look on something I'd wear once, and feel ridiculous about it too.
However, if Bob would like to foot the bill I might consider it.

a friends kid got married recently I don't think they required all guests to dress in renaissance consume but the family and wedding party all did

it was held outside of a castle near Eau Claire

it doesn't need to to be that difficult a solid color Tunic shirt much like you would find at a fur trade era Rondy is what most for them were wearing

the bride and groom were quite dressed in renaissance garb.

put a shirt like this un-tucked over your black jeans wear leather shoes and you will likely fit right in

One thing you rarely get around here anymore is a thank you card for a gift.

As a trapper it would only be fitting to go as Black Death to a Renaissance themed shindig.

One of my kids dressed as a Plague Doctor/ Death Bird thingies for Halloween a dozen or more years ago.

1619 plague doctor fits into renascence , it is near the end but 14-17th century is considered renascence

If theres an open bar,,no one will notice what your wearing anyhow.

I HATE them creepy leather bird head thingies.

One can buy a new renesainnce Holloween Costume for about $50-$75 and then use it in the fall or resell to someone else, so not a huge deal financially. Now if one feels they are not up to that that is another issue.

I went to a wedding couple years back. Was a long time friend of my daughters.. For that wedding the theme was Steam Punk??? I'm like what in HE double tooth pick is Steam Punk? I went but of course was just in good jeans an button down like the bride would usually see me..
It was interesting though to see the young ones all dressed up like mad doctor from movie Wild Wild West. The one with Will Smith..
Anyway that wedding reception was a real hoot. I don't think it so much how anyone dresses. It's more the people your partying with. Maybe it's a chance to let your hair down as they say. People coming to the wedding aren't there to see you or how your dressed.. Just go and enjoy. If they really want you there they won't care how your dressed. Unless Maybe you feel the need to out dress the bride?

After seeing those clothes I must ask if it is a same sex wedding? Asking for a friend.

Do not fear. Traditional weddings between one man and one woman, with a gathering of friends and family coming together to honor the wedded pair, should come back in vogue in a couple centuries if the Lord doesn't tarry.

No way would I let someone require me to dress like a millennial queer.

If it was a good friend and I wanted to attend that wedding, I would make the obvious choice - black tie. At no event in my life was it not a smashing success going black tie. James Bond had it figured out.

And if you are in for it, there will most likely be friendly opportunities.

I think some of us trappers could really rock that look (I know the chicks would be all over me anyway!) unlike the "light in loafer" models in the pictures.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the dress code. Wear whatever you normally wear to the wedding.

Went to our nieces wedding in October. Baseball hats OK , T shirts OK but no tennis shoes.
Her sister got married in April in Texas. Dressy affair we were told. Everyone from down there wore jeans.

Whatever you wear, make sure you incorporate fur!!

I don’t like to be told what to wear. An WILL NOT wear what I’m told. I’m the kind you best not tell what to wear. I will show up and wear the exact opposite. IMO people should be glad you came an not worry about what you wear

Fyi when I get hitched you all are required to wear your finest trapping attire,also need some good with animals to handle the beer donkey

I say attend in traditional renaissance clothing, it’s fun.

But, I’m also not an old curmudgeon.

I’d show up in a kilt with a red fox coat! Depending on the weather of course. I’d it’s hot, I’d just carry the fox.

I’ve not handled a beer donkey in a few years, may take a few minutes to re-familiarize myself.

I’m there though, or I’ll at least send a gift.

A. Wear nothing but fur.
B. Take loads of selfies and make a big to-do about the fact you have nothing on but fur.
C. Ask people if they want to touch it.
D. It = the fur. Key point.
E. Invite the bride and groom to stand in with you and hand them each a tanned fur as the photographer click, click, clicks.
F. In a world seeking identity, this could be the boost the fur industry needs! The heck with the Chinese and the Russian fur buyers. If you do this right, we'll all be selling direct to consumers.

A few years ago we looked into raising and renting to weddings white homing pigeons (Love Doves). Decided to not because of dealing with annoying bridezilla and her posse.
Can’t imagine dealing with a bridezilla about beer donkeys.

you know they had the town idiot . Just wear what ever and just about every 5 minutes or so shout I got fleas and point to the heavens.

I would go dressed as the beer donkey wrangler.

You would probably be the most popular person there , be in all the wedding photos , never get thirsty and I bet hanging out with the donkey might be better than hanging out with certain in-laws.....lol
