Democracy or Constutional Republic

Democracy or Constutional Republic - 08/13/22 12:53 PM

Food for thought.

Ask 100 people if the Unites states is a Constitutional Republic or a democracy and 99 to 100 will answer Democracy. I'd it a failing in the schools or the nonstop chatter Threat to our Democracy , benefits out whole democracy everywhere everyone refers to the US as a democracy. People look dumb founded when I tell them we are a Republic untill I have them say the pledge and it gets to and to the Republic. At that point they are willing to lesson just a little if I'm fast. So I question them on the difference between the two.

Understanding dawns especially when you hit on the protected groups rights that the constitutional Republic protects.

So I start with in a democracy 51% decide to vote to change things like wemon having the right to vote, make slavery legal again, or discriminate due to serial orientation than its done and those people losse their rights. But in a constitutional Republic the constitution protects all the people even if they are a .05% of the population group.

Sorry it just something that gets under my skin when every talking head on every broadcast, radio, and print is always harping on democracy. Most probably are ignorant and don't know the difference but some intentionally are continuing the brain washing through reputation.

I'm sure some here will disagree and it will be interesting to hear those points and views.

When they say “threat to our democracy”, they should immediately be slapped across the face and corrected.

I would apply for that job even if it meant having to move to New York City. Open hand or the back of the hand, I'd give it a shot.

The founding fathers wrote about the failures of true democracies and took pains to create a government with democratic elements but without the pitfalls of a true democracy, one in particular being "the tyranny of the majority." They created our system of government in which certain individual rights are guaranteed regardless of what the majority might wish. So no Beto, you are not coming for my AR15, a weapon "in common use."

When ever i hear a leftist windbag refer to conservatives as an "Existential Threat To Our Democracy", I holler out, "You dad gum skippy right there!"
As far as their brand of "democracy" is concerned, I am their biggest nightmare.
I need to get some shirts made.
"Reprehensible Deplorable."
"An Existential Threat to YOUR Democracy."

It's a democracy that uses a constitutional republic system.

I suppose it depends on your definition of a democracy which I don't believe there are any nation democracies in the world since Athens.

Constitutional Republic !

it has elements of Democracy and is sometimes called a Representative Democracy it is a form of democracy where the will of the people should be carried out.
however with many safe guards from mob / majority rule

it recognizes that there are minorities and that they also need constitutional protections even if they are un-popular at times.
