How much does it cost to hunt Elk in PA ?

Re: Huge bulls on the pa elk camera now - 08/30/22 10:29 AM

An elk application is $11.97 and is non-refundable. If you are drawn the license is $25.00 for residents and $250.00 for non-residents.

They are pretty hard to get. Myself and a member of my camp have been applying since the current elk hunting program started in 2001 and have not received a license. Each year you apply and aren't drawn you get preference points.

Are there registered guides to hunt these elk?

We call that place the place where elk go to see the people.
When the Gkids first saw them it was, "WOW this is like Jurassic Park" lol.

That's cheap for a non resident.

There are but hunters are not required to use them.

Thanks Lug.
Looked like an awful lot of private property,
where the elk will be, and the out of towner will not be.

What amazed me was how the locals tolerate them.
Bedded in the yard, between the ag. and the garden and the orchard.

Private property isn't hard to get permission on, unless a guide has exclusive rights. There are a few that are like that.

Locals tolerate the elk.... They don't tolerate people. There's a ton of trespassing, blocking of roads, and just general ignorance.

U guys have huge bulls up there. I wonder where ur genrtics came from? Our Ks elk are nice but I haven't seen anything huge take. We grow big deer but the elk seem average. And I don't think it's lack of nutrition.

The first reintroduced elk came from Yellowstone in 1913 and again in 1915. Some were also released from a private preserve here in PA in 1913.

Market hunters had just about wiped out our deer and elk by the 1890's.

That and a near total deforestation of the state during that approximate time period.

The Eastern Elk were wiped out from an article I read. The Deer were close to it and I heard stories of them also being stocked, from Michigan I believe?

There's a good article on our Elk History on the Pa. Game comm. website, Written by Joe Kosack.
