Replacing main shut off valve from jet well pump

Replacing main shut off valve from jet well pump - 09/04/22 03:02 PM

Part of the plastic handle on the main shutoff valve that is a few feet from the well pressure tank, broke off. Would like to replace it with a good brass shut off valve. Do I just shut the power off to the well pump and let the water out of the line , and then replace the valve , and then turn the jet well pump back on ? What about not losing prime in the well pump ?

Should be ok killing power and turning on a hose till pressure is gone. Get your valve done, kick pump back on. Priming an above ground jet pump is easy enough. Remove gauge or pipe on top of water jacket and fill up. Save some water before shutting down just in case. Purge air from plumbing when done. May very well take off without loosing prime.

If your check valve is below the shutoff, just turn the well off and drain, replace. (shallow) If deep well, should be able to shut off the power, drain and replace the valve, turn back on and the pump in the bottom of your deep well should push the water back up.
