yotetrapper - 09/08/22 01:30 AM

You remember a discussion a few years back about smokers trashing parking lots and such? I remember you saying you never really thought about flicking a cig butt as littering and that you'd stop doing it. Well, a few others need the same lessons. Outside every store, at every stop light, etc... take a look at the ground. Dang litter bugs.

Awe, bless your heart Jayme. Maybe be like Walt Longmire and dedicate your life to picking them up. Maybe start a gofundme? Good luck with that, I started one for including obese stick people to meme's, cause heavy stick people have rights to and are neglected. I wasn't able to raise any money. grin grin

Many moons ago in basic training, the guys that smoked had to field strip their cigarettes, most of them smoked non filter cigarettes so they didn't have to contend with butts.

Times have changed. People used to go outside to the bathroom and inside to eat. Now we go inside to go to the bathroom and go out to eat.

Re: yotetrapper - 09/08/22 03:41 PM

Used to (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) me off as 30 year old probie fire fighter. Guys throw butts and match sticks in urinals. Said was probies job clean urinals in morning pick them butts out. They also flicked them in yard by flag pole. Which probie was supposed to police up in morning when put flag up. I did that for the first year until wasn't a actual probie any more. Still low man at station so still my job clean urinals empty waste baskets all that simple house keeping.
Well I quit picking them butts out of urinal and emptying ash trays once I had that year completes. That got me a trip to the office pretty quickly. Told chief I did all my cleaning and work like job description said. That didn't include picking butts out urinals or empting ash trays being the other guys mother or wife. I was not some 18 year old kid the guys were going to bully around with that crap. That started a whole war with smokers vs none smokers... Which was about 10 to 1 in favor smokers.
Started out guys could no longer smoke in kitchen or bedroom. That worked for fine and most everyone was ok with that.
Then state got involved and guys couldn't smoke any where inside building. Around 2000 think it was? was a change in some work comp rules I believe. Didn't apply to us old guys..
I guess. They Wouldn't even hire a smoker and once person wss hired could be fired if seen smoking.
Thing is I never smoked cigarettes did smoke few cigars regular for while. Didn't care if others smoked still don't. I can pick or choose how much smoke I want to put up with in bar restaurant where ever.
As kid everyone I knew smoked. I even rolled cigarettes for my old man still have the roller.
But I didn't and still don't like or want to pick up after them that smoke.
I do have to say it's nice not to go to a wedding or banquet. Next morning clothes don't smell like been out in old saloon.

So smoke-um if you gottem. Just don't flick your butt out window at stop light. Expect others pick it up.
Oh yes smoking did kill my older brother. But I never nagged him about quitting. He did tell my son and his daughter they should.

I missed this post. A big part of the problem is that many stores took away the ashtrays outside of the door. If there's an ashtray to put out my cigg in I'll use it every time.

What do you do with them if there isn't one?

Re: yotetrapper - 09/20/22 01:19 AM

Honestly, it depends on my mood and where I'm at. Sometimes I'll knock off the cherry and put the filter in a trash can if there is one, or in my pocket to throw out later. But, other times if it's a major chain like Walmart and they can't be bothered to put out an ashtray for customers to dispose of the butts of the cigarettes that they themselves sell, then I ain't too worried about it and will still flick it. If they don't have an ashtray, they either aren't too worried about the cleanliness of their parking lot, or more likely, would rather just pay someone to sweep it up. So I guess you could say I'm helping make more jobs for American workers, lol.

Re: yotetrapper - 09/20/22 12:05 PM

It does not mater if there are ashtrays, buckets, or other replaces to put them. Very few smokers care one bit and will happily live with butts built up all along the walls and everywhere else they will build up.

I will use my outdoor break area at work for example. I swear and shovel the area clean and the same day smokers are flipping butts all over. I call them out but they don't care. I work 12 and 16 hr days so honestly bi live at work and becuse people are slobs I spent that time in a pig pen. Smokers are not the only ones but they are the easiest to see the evidence of.

I never did like kissing a smoker always like kissing an ash tray and getting the stale smell of smoke off their clothes. It was tolerable for a brief one evening encounter but not much more. Accurate or not between my hang up and irritation on smokers and their butt flipping and the constant stale smell of smoke I always tend to think of them as not very clean. Especially after washing the walls in my grandmother's house when I was a kid whils she was in the hospital. That was eye opening sticky yellow mess .

Very few will pick up after themselves including my inlaws. Unless of course it's at their own house. Every time they would come over I always spent time picking up their buts. Untill I got on them about it.

Good answer! I quit smoking 20 years ago, but I still think the self-righteousness of anti-smokers is a filthier habit than smoking.

I've never been to a Walmart that didn't have a trash can outside their front door and for that matter I don't recall ever seeing one where they didn't have a place for butts. I quit smoking 8 years ago, might be the smartest thing I ever did.

Re: yotetrapper - 09/20/22 01:28 PM

I do not like seeing cigarettes butts laying ever where you look .I had permission to hunt a farm 40 years ago now It was owned by a family member .One day he came out to talk to me when I got there .He pointed at a cigarette butt laying on the ground and said to me ."I don't allow my kids to litter and I expect the same from those who have permission to hunt here. " I said I understand and I will take care of it .I have always been a non smoker so it did not apply to me . But my brother and another friend that hunted there where regular smokers. The next time I saw them I told both of them what I was I told and said THEY EITHER NEED TO FIRURE OUT WHAT TO DO WITH THE BUTTS OR ELSE FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO HUNT! My brother said I think you could use an empty 35 mm film container to put them in So they tried it and they fit .After that it became their habit to always carry a plastic film canister to use as an ash tray . And here is another story about people getting rid of their spent cigarette butt . My one nephew who makes his living by farming was pulling two wagon loads o straw from a field back to his barn .Some one came up behind him and had to follow him for a very short distance until he could safely pass .As he went by the driver flicked his cigarette out the window . As my nephew continued to head for home he thought he saw smoke .About the time he pulled into his drive way the two loads of straw where fully engulfed Not wanting to get to close to any building to catch it on fire and not wanting to lose his tractor to the fire he quickly pulled the pin and drove away from the flames Both wagons where a total lose.

So do farts, and usually there is no evidence of where/who it came from. But, admittedly, you rarely have to sweep them up smile

Re: yotetrapper - 09/20/22 01:41 PM

Pap smoked Chesterfield Kings,
Dad smoked Pall Mall,
Pete smoked Camels,
I smoked Lucky Strikes.
Setting round the table with an after supper smoke, we used our dirty plates for the ashtray ..... and snubbed the butt in it when done.
Imagine the exploding heads if you did that in a restaurant nowadays.
