Almost another year passed!

Almost another year passed! - 09/21/22 12:55 AM

4 more days until my 15th birthday, I don't really know what to do since nothing fun is going on this weekend, nothing trapping related is going on except for a small trapping education course for youth or new trappers but I don't really fit the description of new trapper anymore.

If you learn 1 new thing it might be worth it someday you might be the teacher.

Yeah I try to go to every demo type event/class I can make it to, I can't remember even one where I didn't pick up a tip or trick. Plus ypu will have other trappers to talk to and the instructors/demonstrators want to share their info so pick their brains.

Or grab a fishing pole or shotgun and hit some small streams and ponds and scout for the upcoming seaaon. Heck you might get some bait while you're at it.

When I was 15... I was playing Hockey 24/7 . Eat and breathed hockey. The only trouble was...someones parents had to get us to the rink ! Played for the Manchester NH Midget ...Travel Team. Had a blast. Then played High School too.

I didn’t even know trapping ..was a thing ..at 15. But I knew my way around a Hockey Rink. Played Lacrosse too.

Go regardless, I'm still learning stuff at 64, besides, you never know who you might meet at one of those events. In reality, life here on this planet is mostly about relationships anyway.

This. When I was young I don't think a day went by I wasn't in the woods or fields, no matter the time of year or what was going on. I miss those days.

From what I've seen (read) from you, you've got a great attitude and have a passion for outdoor related stuff.
I like that in a young guy.
Rare nowdays. wink

I don't do sports anymore and stopped at coach pitch which I can't even remember when that was, I've known trapping for 3 seasons and this one will be my 4th.

It does seem quite rare. I can't honestly say an hour goes by where I'm not thinking about a more effective way to run my line or doing something outside.

You definitely will. You are entering prime time for fishing young man. Fall is my favorite. At a minimum, if you are going to water trap, go get yourself some scraps for bait and fillets for your family.

at 14 almost 15 I knew trapping was a thing but I knew no one who trapped

I was busy working every hour I could making money and buying guns at 14 bought my 12ga and 30-06 at 14 and a truck at 15 a few months before I had my drivers license it is 16 in WI but 12-13 to drive farm plates which I had been doing already. at 16 I was buying tools and working on my truck besides hunting and shooting.

when I wasn't working I was hunting & shooting ever opportunity I got. or Fishing with my dad we went on lake Michigan for salmon and trout every chance we got.

don't rush it next thing you know you will be older than your dad is today , I know it takes decades but man they go so fast.

Hey, you are funny!
And you are doing well standing up for yourself.

On the topic of chasing girls, I did a lot of catch and release.
Long ago I used my one tag and bagged a trophy.

I'm still relaxing after mowing yards all summer, now I'm waiting for leaves to drop, and then I'll turn those into cash. 39 more days until the trapping season opens and the real work begins!

Ain't much to stand up for but thank you. I guess some people must have a reusable tag then on that note.

Happy Birthday to you young man. Grab a fishing pole. Catch something. Scout a creek or pond. Get up before dawn. Listen to the birds. Birds start moving a half hour before dawn. I am sure you will find something to do. Have fun grin

As sleepy Joe would say “come on man” you can’t run out of things to shoot with a 22. It’s called plinking. Pop cans, tree branches, turtles, rocks, and on and on
laugh

Re: Almost another year passed! - 09/25/22 03:51 AM

Had a good couple of days, got a lot done and I'm very happy with how all of my projects have turned out so far. Saw a mink jump across the road at one of my trapping spots while I was cruising around as well so I have that to look forward to. Going to do a little bit more organizing tomorrow and then relax.

[Linked Image]
I bought these from a guy for 20$ and paid .36 cents a piece for them, 55 of them for 20$. I'm going to use them for mink boxes with 120s and maybe try a few mink pans.

[Linked Image]
Got these from the same guy as the route tubes and with these, I should have everything I need to do a few of my own furs this year.

Re: Almost another year passed! - 09/25/22 03:55 AM

Here's what I've been doing today on my birthday.

[Linked Image]
Here's my new bait and lure cabinet made out of a wood shipping crate with some shelves that I built inside of it. Cost about 20-25$ in materials.

[Linked Image]
Here's the cabinet with the door off, I have my extra fox and coyote urine, predator set making lure and bait, and my tackle box with all of my general purpose lure.

[Linked Image]
Made a new holder for my fiberglass poles since I originally had them near the ceiling but they took a lot of work to get them down and they also had to be moved to fit my route tubes up on the ceiling so they were out of the way.

[Linked Image]
Here are the route tubes up on the ceiling where they're out of the way and nicely kept.

I have self-prescribed OCD and I love being able to see where everything is and if it can be perfect I try to make it perfect. You should see my trapping tool wall. I have 56 route tubes.
