Unfortunately there are a number of groups advocating complete protection for wolves in New York. They completely ignore the terrible results of wolf introduction into Yellowstone. I know what I will do if I catch or see a wolf here in the Adirondacks.

Originally a pro wolf advocacy group said dna test says wolf, and DEC tests says coyote. Now The story is more confusing, who is the environmental official ? The news story doesn’t really elaborate on who the environmental official is. Is it DEC or someone else ?

Bottom line the person who shot the thing is a fool for posting pictures and providing dna samples. All he has done is moved NY closer to more burdensome regulations for coyote hunters and trappers. I’ve seen the picture, and looks more like a big dog to me.
