How could you not fall in love with a woman who can carry a buck like that over her shoulder?

Used to hang a meat pole in front of the hotel in Roxbury and hang the deer that the patrons shot. Nice pictures of a time gone by.

The old whiskery fellow, at 39 seconds, sitting on the stump with the Blunderbuss is none other than John "Spikehorn" Meyer, a famous businessman that operated "Spikehorn's Bear Den" on the corner of M-61 and US 27 near Harrison, Michigan in my youth. He died in 1959. I have a vague memory of a bewhiskered old man sitting on a stool just inside that tourist trap building when I was a kid.

Lots of lever guns were used back then!

Them were the days, now everything is regulated to death.

Thanks!

I can relate because my dad, uncles and gramma were part of this area. All used lever guns, had high boots over pants and all clothing was red/black or green/black plaid wool. And they walked virtually everywhere.

A lot of folks just enjoying nature. Don't see a lot of high dollar camo, equipment, posing with the critter like it is some kind of artistic photo shoot, etc.

I make sure I get good quality pictures with the animals I take, not so much for anyone else other than me. Same reason I keep a journal of my hunts. I figure one day this ole memory will fade and one of my boys or grandchildren will come to me and say Dad or Papa, do you remember this hunt? I hope with pictures and them reading to me that it’ll jog that memory back and I can relive that day once again.

Pretty cool.

Anybody ever see one of Al Capone and the inner circle of the "outfit" hunting ducks? A former boss of mine claimed to have seen this picture, just curious if it actually existed?

They were doing exactly what you say, posing for a photo shoot took even more effort, and they were wearing and using the latest stuff.
