Think he's gonna be surprised? - 10/20/22 09:50 PM

So here's the deal, my dad's been wanting a bolt action.22 mag for the longest, right. He works a lot as a teacher so he doesn't have time to hit up the gun or pawn shops like me. Well I've been hunting and hunting one and two months ago I was in the pawn shop ( yet again) and spotted this girl !

Well they have layaway so I put 20% down and I've been paying $20 here $50 there and I've got it down to like $85. Well I was gonna buy it work it over , new scope ,find out what ammo it like the best whole 9yards but the old man just called me and said
" Donovan! You saw that last txt message I sent you about a .22mag ? I'm still looking for one!"
I says " what if I told ya I found one for only $100 ? grin "
Long story short I'm going to drag him up there Saturday morning pay another $30 or so on it and let him pay the rest and put it in his name grin
Think he'll be a tad bit surprised? 🤣

I got a Marlin 25MN in 22 mag I've had for maybe 20 years or more looks similar. I'm not a big gun guy like others on TMan but I like mine . That model must be a little better grade because it's got lot prettier wood.
Your dad should like that real well. Your good man Wolfie.

Them Micro Groove barrels shoot nice. Nice simple action, and triggers are pretty good for as simple as they are. Good catch!

Any chance I can adopt you as my son? LOL

Re: Think he's gonna be surprised? - 10/20/22 10:31 PM

I had one I got on trade in stainless like it. It didn't shoot to my standards and I was not happy. I tried different ammo and it shot great.

I traded it off because I really didn't have a use for it. It was a bit much for squirrel and rabbits and I was young so it was to tempting to shoot deer with it. So it went down the road.

They are very nice I'm sure your dad will be very happy and surprised.

My Marlin 22 semi auto long rifle has done a lot of accurate shooting for me, open sights, for many years.

A good gift and investment.

She's a looker and Marlin's micro grooved barrel should have her threading needles at good squirrel ranges

Tell me about what's attached to the rest of the handgun barrel; looks interesting.

I had one of those. It was deadly accurate. I gave it to a friend in Colorado who guided us on an elk/mule deer hunt. He put us up in his house while he stayed at his mom's house. He wouldn't take any money from us. As we were heading out to the airport, I handed the rifle for him hold on to it for a minute while I loaded my luggage in the truck. He tried to hand it back, but I told him that there wasn't any room for it, and to hang onto it for me.
I thought that he was going to cry. He was acting like I had given him a thousand dollars. Gifting a gun has that effect on a man. He still has it and told me that he has killed a lot of critters with it. That was 30 years ago.

You and your dad are both lucky men.
Make sure that he takes the time to use it.
I bought my dad a side by side 410 for his 62nd birthday.
We only got to go bunny hunting once with it before his health wouldn't allow it anymore.
Don't let that happen to you.

You can tell the year by the serial # Look for a "JM" proof stamp on the barrel, often on left side just in front of action. Those tend to be sought out. Suprisinly cheap rifle when new, that bring good $$ now. Rimfire Central has a section just for these models.

The JMs are gold. Great find and I think your dad will love it. I have 3 JMs, all lever guns and they are going nowhere until I go in the ground. From what I have seen the Henry's just don't compare.
