I love to see how popular women and girls hunting is nowadays. When I was in school I was the only girl in my school that did and was picked on for it.

Re: Emma's Second Deer - 10/24/22 12:59 AM

That is one heck of a smile!
I just got in from the last night of the Youth hunt here too. I took my best friend's oldest daughter (12) and he took the younger one (10). We saw does and fawns each day but they have their heart set on a buck or nothing. The oldest is shooting a Remington 700 BDL Youth in 7mm-08 and the younger is a Model 7 youth 7mm-08. I put rifles together for each of the girls along with a case of Hornady reduced recoil ammo for them. They are already looking forward to trying to shoot a buck during the regular season in 12 days.

They sure grow up fast, Scott ! Emma is happily on a learning curve of how to put meat in the freezer, from hoof to skinning, to processing.

Everyone is proud of her . What confidence hunting gives to girls. All with encouragement and time coaching .

Thanks for the share . That’s a frame picture !

Re: Emma's Second Deer - 10/24/22 04:10 AM

Congratulations to Emma and to you too. Unlike most modern folk, she'll know exactly where her dinner comes from. In my modest experience as a firearms instructor, I've found girls easier to teach than boys, on average. Her deer looks well-shot. Way to go!

Re: Emma's Second Deer - 10/24/22 04:19 AM

That's awesome!!!! Our youth season is this coming weekend and my kids are pumped up! One thing I don't have to worry about is keeping track of who's turn it is to go first because they have that under control! Congratulations to your granddaughter!

I agree that it is really good to have so many young women getting involved in the outdoor sports . My experience is that quite often young girls are better learners than boys Us men think we know it all and don't need to told what to do And the girls pay attention so they are starting out not learning bad habits And think about the logic of making it more difficult for girls /young women to become part of the hunting /trapping group in our country .They are 50 % of the population . It is not that many years ago that the Sportmen's club I belong to voted to allow women to become members And it was a very hotly contested issue .Now they are on the board of directors and other leadership positions Helping with what ever needs to be done Some old ways are hard to leave behind But it is encouraging to see that we all can help everyone man or women enjoy the same things we grew up doing . And by the way Emma that's a nice deer Which came first the deer or the smile ?Bet no one needed to say smile !!..

Good for her! I love seeing these young gals into hunting.
That's the same rifle I won in a raffle and gave to my granddaughter. She's a little older than your granddaughter and has shot several deer with it. I love the detachable magazine on those.
Congratulations to her for sure!
