Question for you AR guru's

Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 03:08 PM

Have seen a few with foregrip pistolgrip and stock that are pink. My 9 year old grand daughter is pretty small for her age. She can however shoot her 22 crickett pretty good. I think a 16 inch barrel shouldn't be to heavy and her arms are long enough now I think in the forward position the stock wont be to long. I want one thats light and pink in 5.56. She wants to go deer hunting. Got a birthday coming up. Any suggestions? I got nosler 62 grain partition bullets and a 10 round mag that will fit inside the rifle. I will get her close. 5.56 will be enough bullet. Looking for a pink one. Where should I look? Found one used in Olathe but the pawn shop is asking new price.

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 03:53 PM

are you building or dressing up a existing gun?

I would order up a PSA kit https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa...t-m-lok-moe-ept-rifle-kit-516446780.html

buy a stripped Anderson lower locally should be about 50-60 dollars

then get a thing of masking tape and a laundry bag and a few cans of black , white , pink and tape off the slots on the hand guard and make my own pink pattern camo

Will rattle can paint cover and stay on good?

Rather just buy one but I could assemble one

@Danny, I would just buy a normal AR-15 that is of good quality and take it somewhere to get cerakoted pink. Also they do make 5 rounders too, it's what I use in my AR when I take it hunting, makes a difference when I deer hunt. The people who do the cerakote would likely be able to paint the furniture the same color or contrast it for you.

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 04:12 PM

it will wear but that usually accents the camo look

when you paint a gun you make one decision , and that is that you will own a painted gun or in this case a painted hand guard you don't have to do the whole gun.

wipe everything down with alcohol first or acetone on non plastic

if you have any old stocks or other things laying around to play with your paint camo one first a few test pieces make a better end result

if you just want a very durable all pink design you could order from this place that cerocoats them or take your parts to be ceracoated

https://www.at3tactical.com/collect...urniture-stocks-grips-and-more-by-magpul

neither of my adult daughters are into pink but both were until about age 8-11
that rifle may last her much longer than she is into pink , so a pink grip to show it is her's now may be enough to make it special then easy to change later.

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 04:18 PM

if your state requires 5 rounders they make them if not MagPul 10 rounders just barely stick out the bottom of the magwell
a 5 rounder either has a limiter in a 10 round mag or is a 5 round mag with a block of plastic on the bottom to get to stick out enough to seat and grab.

we have no law saying 5 rounds for hunting so I see no reason not to use the 10s if form factor and weight is the only concern

Yes, when authorized it's what is done in the field by US Army and Marine units. It will wear over time with use but just lends a "distressed" patina to it.

Of course like everything there is a price point for durability. There are specific firearms paints like duracoat or alumahyde ranging from air cure to heat cure.

And there are all sorts of camo pattern stencils available as well.

Go to primary arms, they have a good selection plus some diy youtube videos.

Lots of pink accessories are available.
If you go spray paint, sand it with 220 first. Clean with acetone then at least 2 coats of paint

There used to be a really good video on youtube from the guy at Midway USA on assembly but I think it was taken down. If you decide to build maybe there's another one out there somewhere.

they can not show you how to build a gun on You tube , breaks their rules

so Midway hosts it on their own site now.

also Rumble has build videos

https://rumble.com/vhv3b3-complete-...er-receiver-buildassembly-and-parts.html

maybe we could figure out how to link Rumble videos in posts since youtube won't allow it

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 06:39 PM

There are plenty of choices on the market in pink and pink camo. Just buy the rifle you like and accessorize. All the furniture on AR's is pretty much interchangeable as most of them are MIL SPEC. No shortage of whatever you want, The barrel will need cerokote or should I say cerokote would be a good option.

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 07:13 PM

It's hard to find a light one. I built this with Mid Way parts. I put a lighter barrel. lighter heat shield, adjustable stock, trigger, springs for the right sized barrel, ect. It's a good running gun. You asked about rattle can paint- this is automotive paint form a local paint store. Works great. It's been on about 8 ears. It's look lighter in this picture than it really is. I wanted a dirt color so I asked them to make it for me and put it in a can and they made it so it would stick to the metal properly. I think it was about $10. My buddy mixing the paint put sparkles in it for me though......After I saw it on the rifle i just kept going.

If trying for lightweight on a build or parts swapping check out the series of WWSD, what would stoner do, from InRange TV on YouTube. Some interesting concepts on that one.

Re: Question for you AR guru's - 11/07/22 10:34 PM

we are definitely enablers.
light weight 14.7 upper pinned and welded so that it just meets the 16 inch requirement
https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa...6-nato-1-7-13-5-m-lok-pinned-welded.html

it costs a little more but light weight charges by the ounce
7.1 ounces for this stock that gets LOP from 9.4 inches to 12.7 inches

Danny, the all important question is what do you want to spend? 500?600?8?
