My boy got his buck.

My boy got his buck. - 11/07/22 05:01 PM

He kept wanting to sit in this one spot even tho he wasn't seeing anything in it this year. It paid off for him Saturday morning. Just before 0900 he had a small buck and doe go running by him. He wanted to get a shot on the doe but they wouldn't stop. Then he heard what they were running from. This guy stopped about 30 yards in front of him. Not the best shot ( he shot it facing him) but the placement was spot on. It left a blood trail that Ray Charles could follow.

Congrats. Nice buck! Guess that'll learn Dad to be second guessing his choice of spots, lol.

That's a dandy buck. Your son obviously has a hunter's instinct to stick with a spot. Great mass on the rack.

Very nice buck with a proud young Hunter. Looks like the buck was definitely doing some rubbing on trees by the looks of the bark at the base of the antlers. Congratulations.

Not his first buck. He has gotten a 6, 4 and a 3. We have hunted that spot together the last few years. Although he did move from the tree that we had sat at by 30-40 yards.

At yotetrapper, You got that right. I had another spot that a small 6 (1.5 year old) was coming out at. I was gonna see if he wanted to go hunt it. He was dead set on this spot so I didn't bother asking him. I did mention it and he didn't even ask, so neither did I.

Here are some numbers- 5" around the base on both sides and 19" spread. If I did the numbers right he should green score at 141". Not bad for a 15 year old with a crossbow! Not to mention a 10 point! He has a couple up on me there.

We always have one big one out here with several nice ones running around. Wouldn't surprise me if another big one came around.

The neck measured 23" at the smallest and 32" at the largest part.

Another view.

I am happier than if I had shot it. I hope it keeps him going out. He seems to really enjoy it.

If a trophy like that doesn’t keep him going out, nothing will.

He has been more than happy to shoot doe and small buck. We are nothing more than meat hunters here. This just gives him some bragging rights for awhile. Lol.
