Ordering trees for spring - 11/23/22 03:51 AM

How late can you guys usually place your orders and still get what you want? I kind of got busy and behind, and I've been exploring different nurseries for next year, and haven't ordered anything yet.

Depends on what you want. I just ordered from the county land conservation seedling sale and they only had 3 bundles of white Oak left. Some trees/ shrubs were sold out. I see you are in WI. Check out your county land conversation sale. They sell in bundles of 25 and are priced right. I have had great survival with them. I looked at Chief River Nursery and they listed offering as low on stock. Order soon if you can

Ea co in WI is different. They have different trees and different amounts, some 10 trees/bundle, some 25/bundle.
I have bought from Ozaukee, Washington and Sheboygan.
One had Beech while others didn't.

Just got an email about Sheboygan co, end of accepting orders is feb 28. Most are about the same.
You have lots of time.

I'm debating ordering more trees, White Oak if I order anything, maybe Burr Oak.

My County doesn't sell any trees, I wonder if I could order from other counties if they have extra

You very likely can. Some county tree sales will even sell out of state.

Be sure to order a nut tree or 2. Not sure what varieties do well in Wisconsin.

I'm wanting to order a couple of bare root pecan trees that would do well in my zone. But I'm not having any luck finding any. Any suggestions?

Sorry I don't know much about pecans other than I like to eat them.

Check out the NNGA (Northern Nut Growers Association). I believe there is a northern pecan interest group there that could help you out.

The 1 I looked into will sell to anyone, but they won't deliver.

you don't have to worry about extras, just order what you want, they don't care if your a resident.

all of the counties I have bought from require you to pick them up.
Its usually about 3 days in May, a Friday, Sat and Sun.

fortunately for me all the counties around me have tree sales. I don't mind a 1/2 hr to 45 minute one way drive to get some trees.
