When an old trucker loses his libido he can just get a new Peterbilt.

Did ya let all the air out of the seat and spend last weeks earnings at the chrome shop?

If you didn't do that you might as well just drive a one stack Mack with a window in the back!
cool

one of my old bosses used to laugh & say he could get drivers for two bucks less an hour if he put them in a pete. i'd take an old R model Mack any day. best all around work truck ever made. (vocational trucks, dump, log grapple, mixer, etc.)

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/23/22 06:44 PM

NH back about 83 came up a bad blizzard in KC. I was driving a fairly new R model with an end dump. Were saying I 35 was closed but there are no gates in KC. I found a highway patrolman stuck in the median in gardner ks and gave him a ride to his house in Wellsville then drove about 30 more miles to my house. That little R model was busting through drifts like a snow plow. I had a good load on but trust me it was a bad night to he out. I hadnt been home in a couple weeks and I did not want to park

There used to be one in Oklahoma City and he would say that he had his nightgown on, he had his purdy red panties on, and he was ready to go to bed. IDK if that dude is still around but if so Biden has probably given him a cabinet post

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 01:37 AM

I see a Marmon on I-80 west of Des Moines fairly often. I always notice it because nothing else looks like that.

Not anymore but it doesn't seem like that long ago you'd see a few old Diamond Rios in the oil fields

A b61 ?? The whole B series was one of the best looking truck line built.

I learned on a CH 613Limited —- all Mack top to bottom

Still liked looking over the hood of a 379 and W900 though

What is the motor and hp Hobbie ??

I couldn't tell you. We used it as an off road truck and you couldn't stop it. Had the dog legs and just enough room for the driver and a lunch box.

You could have pulled Dragon teeth with the granny gear in that thing. lol

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 04:55 PM

So far as I know Mack doesnt doesn't build engines and transmissions any more. Guy I knew back in the 80's had a R model with a tri plex trany. Had three shift levers and no splitter button. I dont remember now how it was shifted but he explained it to me one day. I remember at the time it didn't sound like it would be to hard.

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 05:04 PM

5 on the main & Hi - lo & reverse on the compound, is how the mid 80's R model tractor i ran was. you could shift with the main, 1 thru 5 while in reverse!

We've only ever had Internationals and Kenworths for tractors. Lift their skirt up and they all look the same.

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 09:22 PM

Your right Danny , Mack doesn’t build motors or any of the driveline anymore. Not sure when they stopped , but the Dawg I drove was a ‘93.

Drove a tandem axle dump R model once…. was really strange— something like an 8 speed or goofy like that: go through the lows then to hit the hammer gear you turn a knob on top of the stick….. had to drive it like you were mad at it.
Posted By: danny clifton

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 10:09 PM

The R model I drove was a 9 speed with a 300 H.P. motor. Had a gramma gear I rarely used so yes like an 8 speed. Speed limit was 55 back then and I drove that thing all over the country. Literally.

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 10:29 PM

My first OTR experience was in a cab over Pete that had a Detroit screamer. I went form that to a Freight shaker and then on to the one that ended the OTR for me, the famous Cornbinder. lol She had a 3208Cat with the 10 RR. That thing would run out of numbers half throttle.
Posted By: danny clifton

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 10:46 PM

The only good thing about that mack was its ability to traverse bad conditions. The only truck I ever drove that was more uncomfortable was a cab over cornbinder with a 6 v92 detroit. It would run out of numbers too. Sometimes. Didnt have enough torque to pull a sick cat out of the litterbox.

That mack was still pretty new. Way less then 50 000 on it. I was going over the hill between Alamogordo and Las Cruces N.M. Right there at White Sands missile base. I didnt know what was wrong but every few hundred yards I had to stop and let the motor cool down. I knew if I got to the top it was downhill to Las cruces and that 76 thats now a T.A. on 10. Up out of the missile base came a column of blue light I think was a laser. Reagan was president and the news was full of his star wars program. Anyway I got over the hill and the thermostat was stuck. That truck was the first brand new truck i ever drove but I never did really like it.

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 10:56 PM

The Mack CH I drove had an 18 speed. Put it in the low hole with the power divide on and I bet thing could have walked up a tree.. just wouldn’t get stuck. Loved it

I never did the OTR thing. Just flats, lowboys, dumps, and doubles here in Michigan.
All day cabs….. I remember the W900 we had. Had one of the first Signature 600 hp in it with an 18 speed. I thought I was really something until a bull rack pulled up along side me. I stayed with him for a bit …… then his hand came up flat pointed forward and he left me like I was standing still….. !! Still laugh about that.

I heard California re- did the rules for the police out there. If the police need to do 55 mph they need the lights on. If the go over 65mph they need the lights and sirens on. If they go 75 mph and over they need to use the lights, sirens and a bull rack escort……

Hobbie back when I was workin for some of the big rodeo strings I drove lots of Cab Overs. Jimmy Crowther, John McDonald, heck even David Bailey had old cab overs and I pulled bulls everywhere between NYC and Los Angeles in them.
Posted By: Leftlane

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/24/22 11:45 PM

I had bulls like Playboy, Gunslinger, and Wild West and if a cab over was cool enough for then it was cool enough for me LOL

I have hauled a lot of stuff but the only cattle I ever hauled were in boxes or hanging on hooks attached to rails in the top of the trailer

i ran a cabover freight shaker back in the mid 90's haulin' mostly woodchips for independent stave in missouri, had a 315 big cam IV cummins that would stay right with the 425 cats in the hills all day long.

Re: Made it to the Big League, lol - 11/25/22 12:39 AM

Hobbie, be careful if the road gets greasy. If you don't set it to push button shift when your drive tires break loose the thing will shift gears. I think they are dangerous. Especially when you hit a slick spot you were not expecting.
