He's been gone since Thanksgiving morning.

Gary, I encouraged him to go Thanksgiving days. I felt it would be safer travel for him because there would be less traffic. I had to work anyway..cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the lady I take care of..so it worked.

He usually goes the day after Thanksgiving.

He's been needing to go trapping.

I'm glad he's having a good trip so far.

Plus that way he's getting an extra full day to trap.

Boco..all I can say is west of the Mississippi and Northwest.

They had a guy show up in their area a few years go because the other guys Facebook post told too much.lol

He told them that's why he was the there ..that he saw what they were catching and decided he wanted some of that fur.

They have a good coyote that are in pretty good demand In our market.

He skins them all with the feet attached.

We talked to the buyer last Tuesday when we took a few things from where we bought the fur business.

He told us he rely wanted those yotes again this year.

He was supposed to come home Sunday but he decided to stay an extra day.

I bet a lot of us are curious what the buyer is doing to make money off the yotes he buys.

Mostly the tourisr trade. Alot of jerrys fur ends up in tourist shops in rhe west..

We have a coyole.direct buyers feom out that way.

His fur becomes hats and ear muffs ect or. And as wall hangings.

Some.if the guys have bought Jerrys fur for years.

Jerry grades the fur..a little on the hard side..imo..but he oes the grading and I do the marketing.

When marketing I know that any fur I'm selling is top quality and worth my asking price..guaranteed..even though that asking price is above the traditional fur market for that pelt.

Quite the team, you and Jerry. Perhaps you could use more trappers to manage fur sales for. At a nice commission for your expertise in marketing!

Seems to me in todays market if someone else showed up it would be a blessing. Offer the guy an on the carcasses price, come home with a lot more product, and save the time, lure, clothing, fuel, labor, vehicle wear, knees, knuckles etc.

Of course ya wanna make money but Jerry traps even in the crappy years.

He's not afraid to hold his pelts in a down year

A big part of his payment for trapping is just the fact that he gets to go...the.money is just the icing on the cake for him.

He will trap just as hard..maybe harder in a low market cause when the market skyrockets..for just that one season..he'll be ready..with fur to sell..

He will capitalize on that market spike ..while everyone else is screwed because they ain't got any fur to sell because they couldn't be bothered to trap during the down years.

To me a real trapper is a trapper whose in it for the long haul.

Trapping is like Christmas morning every day.
A present under every tree.

Fur buying? Pffft-not so much.

I was content with breaking even the last several years, but losing money is a dealbreaker for me. I would bet there is a bunch of "real" trappers sitting it out this year.

If I wasnt trapping I would still be out on the land at least a few days every week-why not have traps to check and fur to sell when you go out? Doesnt cost me a penny more,while I am out getting meat or wood or just relaxing at the cabin,and I have something of value that can be sold for cash money.
Might not trap as hard but surely will still trap to supplement income.

Ya, fur buying can be like the return department at Wal-Mart broke slipping rancid robbed and put up poorly.

A very avid..big name trapper from the past called guys who only trapped on a high market.. fair weather trappers.

Me..I'm a fair weather 4 wheeler rider..if I gotta put gloves on to ride because it's so cold out..I'm staying home and not freezing my hindend off.

No offense at all. I admire people who can make things happen. Here in PA nothing has much value and Im not in a situation to travel. Breaking even worked for me but with this crazy inflation......This is the first year I havent trapped in 45 years so I was real at one time anyhow.
