Canadian Snowbirds

Never thought about it before but I guess there isn't anywhere warm Canadians can go in the winter except in the lower 48. I was in Tuscon this week and met an Albertan who winters in Tuscon (arizona). He said lots of Cannuks in Az. in the winter. Most drive down he said.
So...............can US citizens stay in Canada for months at a time, like for vacations?
You know.....................I don't think that Albertan said, "Eh" one single time!

Years ago North Eastern Ontario was polluted with Americans for a few weeks each spring bear hunting.
Dont see many nowadays.,just the odd one.
I dont think many Americans like Canada that much that they would spend any length of time here any longer than it took them to catch fish or kill game..
Canadians love going to the States,mainly the Frenchmen.
When I was younger I used to like going to the Spring Break in FLA for the Women.

I met a few Canadians in the Philippines. More than I thought I would. Some probably were expats.

I met some Canadian women on a beach they set aside for sea turtles to lay eggs on between Cancun and Tulum so some of them make it down to Mexico. They had pretty good tans too.

Plenty of Ontario residents daily crossing the Thousand Island Bridge to shop and purchase gas in Watertown , NY.. Pretty obvious why.
And I think Canadians don’t like Americans much, but they do like our money, cheaper gas, and many Watertown merchants give CND dollar on par with US dollar.

Happening all across remote Canada. Few Americans like there used to be coming for hunting and fishing. Couple of things going on I think: Culture shift. Young Americans are not hunt and fish people like previous generations. Young Canadians the same plus no one has kids anymore. Other thing is since 9/11 borders and security, and most recently Covid, all are deterrents to travel outside your own country. Just not worth the grief that can be encountered.

Post ww2 up until the 90’s. Before private plane insurance became out of reach for most, float planes on most lakes. Don’t see much of that anymore

I've been trying to convince my wife we should stay in Canada for the falls and winters until we can get dual citizenship, she's not easily convinced

I believe you need a guide to hunt big game up there now of your a non resident. That's why I never looked into going.

Over the years spent a lot of time in Ontario for work- enjoyed all aspects of it! Great people

It is not unusual to run into canuks all along the southern coast pullin campers.

No one size fits all. The rules on guide requirements have changed over time, species and jurisdictions. Best to check it out on a case by case basis.
