Ice fishing stocked paddlefish with snagging?

Been seeing more and more eid these fishing clips from China and gotta say I find them pretty interesting. Well this one popped up on FB today and I don't think I've ever seen anything like it and since I don't speak Chinese I'm just guessing but seems like it's some kinda tournament on a stock pond. When the video started eveyone was standing at the bank and someone yelled and everyone took off and stared cutting holes in the ice.

So they cut the hole and he pull out this contraption. Seems to basically be a bait casting rod with a horizontal bar and threw eyes. Basically letting you have three individual lines. And in each one is strake indicator and under that a pretty big treble hook



And basically when one of those little floats shows movement he jerks up hopefully snagging a fish with one of those three hooks. Now here the wild thing. Look what old dude pulled up.


Little baby paddle fish. Now if I'm remembering correctly. China had two Species of paddle fish and the largest went extinct not too long ago and the smaller one isn't super common. So I'm guess these are hatchery raised and stocked like trout . I know they do it for carp in basically paylakes over there wao guess it's not too far off for paddle fish....
You more well travels folk , ever seen something like this ?

i never seen anything like that style of ice fishing. Most northern states it is illegal to snag. It is interesting though.

That big hole would make me nervous. Looks easy to fall into walking around on ice
