Looks like a cat to me too. We have a clan of feral cats by me that have thick tails on them. Not long haired tails, just thickly haired. When you grasp the tail it doesn't give like a normal cat's tail does. It feels more like a cattail seedhead. I suspect that they have some bengal house cat genes in them.
The bengal house cat comes from crossing a tabby with a Asian leopard cat (a wild species of cat).
