What size earth augers are best for dirt holes? I just came across a few at the store and think I might get one

How big a hole do you like? I've made 3-4 inch holes and some just pounded a stake in pulled out. Will have to admit most the holes I dig are the size of my yoo-hoo trowel.
I did take an old cup type ice auger and cut the cup to about two inches.

Depends on how tight/hard your ground is, how powerful your drill is and strong you are to run the drill. I went with a 1 1/2" because are ground can get tight. It will catch and about break your wrist once in awhile. I'd buy a double flighted one made by someone who makes them for trapping if you want it to last. Hex shaft.

BT 45 STHIL earth auger. 10 years ago when I ran lots of DEEP dirtholea thata what I used. Trapped 365 a year Couldn’t kill it. Till 1 day. It fell of truck. Not a hard fall. On dang sandy road. Broke shaft. So I got a new 1 I like the 4 inch auger bit. Coyote CANNOT get bait unless he brings another coyote to hold his tail LOL

Not trying to change the subject but it’s a good opportunity to ask-what made you change from the deep dirtholes??

To the op, i agree with what was previously said-buy from someone who makes these “custom” vs mass produced. I have a mass produced 1.5 that is extremely dull. It doesnt dig well in frozen soil.

DWC. Deep Dirt Holes stopped working for me. Educated Coyotes. My fault. Ran 60 % dirt holes 40 % flat sets. At time Keep in mind. I trap most my contact coyote jobs. 3 times a year. Its going on bout 10 years now. My places range from 6000 acres to 40000 acres. Now. Unlike before. EVERYONE traps coyotes. EVERYONE uses dirt holes So now I run 99% flat sets
