Toyota tacoma value

1998 toyota tacoma pickup with a hydraulic snow plow. It has 20800 miles on it. Seems to run good, body in average shape. Tried to get a kelly blue book on it with no luck

Any idea of the value on it?

That is going to be tough to value. Is it 20,000 mile truck that plowed some old guys driveway or does it have 20,000 miles of plowing on it? Rust, no rust?

No rust, no salt on our roads. It was used by the school district on side walks and district offices parking lots. There minimum bid is $4,000. I think $4,500 would get it
With the school district owning it i would bet it was maintained well. The seats need to be recovered the body looks good for its age, few dents and scraps but overall not bad. It does need a set of tires

Here in Alaska this fall I bought a 01 Toyota tundra with 150k miles for $2500 and spent $7000 getting a new plow installed on it. Truck is mechanically good but has some body damage. I think $4500 is a good deal.

at $4,500 I would be happy if it's in decent shape and I thought it had been cared for.

Not often you find them for sale you could still rebuild it if needed and be ahead in the future a solid body is a darn good start.

98 was a great year. 3.4 6 cylinder very reliable. Front end are weak point like any yota

Just sold my 99 Tacoma 4x4 for 4000, had 310, 000 miles, I put on the swap and ship asking 3000, and had several calls in 30 minutes, and somewhere in that period a man called from 2 hours away offering 4000, picked up the next morning

98 is in the years of the bad frames. So check the frame. Tap the frame with ball pien hammer, if it solid you can tell, if not hammer will go thru the frame. If solid buy it. That year thru 03 sell good they have the good engines,

Look on the passenger rear shock mount on the frame and along outer side of frame common spot for rot . Great motor got 321,000 on mine bought it with 207,000 10 years ago for 4,300

I've been pondering buying one and putting a 1.9 VW tdi in it. They are the perfect size truck but don't get that good of mpgs.

Toyota’s aren’t known for good mileage just longetivity ( spelling)

Just check Craigslist in Oregon and you'll see that it's cheap at the prices you mentioned unless the frame is rusted....if I knew where it was I'd try to buy it at that price

Is it 4 x 4? If so 4500 would be a steal if two wheel drive not worth 4500 imo. I have a 96 Tacoma 4x4 extended cab with. 268k on it and have been offered $5500 multiple times

the frames can easily & cheaply plated. i think thats a good price. my daily runner is an 04 taco trd. i wouldnt sell it that cheap.

There's a company called Saftey Cap that makes weld on replacement parts for all sections of the frame , I just had to get a set of back cab mounts from them for mine. Something for all to remember.

It is a 4x4 extended cab, I'm going into town today and look at the frame. If the frame isn't bad I will put in a bid, I may get out bid you never know. Thanks to all for the info, I would never have known to look about the frame

I've had 4 tacomas, I have a 2015 now. I wouldn't need the pickup except for the snow plow and I would use it trapping until it got muddy then back to the side by side. It would save wear and tear on my newer toyota

The new 1s are!!! My 2022 Tacoma crew cab with V6 and 31 inch tires gets 23 mph on interstate. My Average is 20 all round. How do you beat that??

I'm hoping for 28-32 with the VW diesel. There are some cool builds on youtube.

Paid $4900 for a 2004 2wd 4 cyl. w/ 180K miles 4 years ago. I checked my first 3 tanks of gas and got 20 20, and 20 local. Body was good and still is. No problems except a couple of 02 sensors and might be looking at a cat conv. now, not sure. Good trucks IMO...

Hardly good milage. Could do that in a 3/4ton v8. Yotas just suck the gas but keep going

I'd like to know what 3/4 v8 gets 20 mph doing "local driving"? I figure 20 is good fuel mileage in a 4x4 of any make. And I only ever got that in my 3.4 v6 Tacoma when highway driving with no trailer and relatively empty to lightly loaded.

4500 is a steal on that truck. If it is a manual and you will tell me where it is I'll outbid you.

I sold a 2000 about 2 years ago with 400,000 on that motor and the motor had never been touched. Still runs good and being driven today, not sure how many miles it has now. I do know that over half the miles on it when I owned it where off blacktop and over half had a trailer hitched to it. While I changed oil regularly it was worked.

I still have a 2000 4x4 with the 3.4 and it has 723,000+ plus miles on it. Change the oil, do regular maintenance and it will serve you well for a long time.

Well a little update, I looked it over from head to foot, no rust anywhere, no cracks in the frame, they had put a new set of tires on it (mechanic said they had the tires in the shop for it to put on after I looked at it the first time) it needs a new tail gate. I looked at the maintenance records, oil changed every 3,000 miles. The hydraulic snow snow plow looks new. I found what looks like the same plow on line for $3,200 So long story short i put in a higher bid, hope i get it. Bids read Tuesday
