Serviceberry for Pollinators and Wildlife - Video - 04/11/2303:47 PM
Been a bit but I got another video put together - this time about serviceberries. These are one of the best trees when it comes to providing food for wildlife and pollinators, are host plants for around 90 species, and have edible tasty fruits!

He doesn't mention "Saskatoon" berry, the service berry that grows in the northwest part of the USA, up through western Canada and into Alaska. It is an interesting plant, I never really do anything with the berries, but I do nibble on them when I run across them. I wonder why they have never become popular as a edible fruit?

waggler - only reason Saskatoon berries didn't make the video is because I cover the eatern US. Although all the serviceberries taste similar Saskatoon berries are the best tasting. I have seen them being sold in a few places but not very often. I'm not sure why they aren't more popular either as they are easy to grow.

Very nice video , Anthony.
I have Serviceberries all over here. I have encouraged them to grow , along with other shrubs Ive planted , and trees, that feed bees, and birds. And that look pretty for me in fall.
The Sberries here grow into large shrubs with several trunks. The berries turn rich Indigo blue, and are delicious. I pick the ripe ones for myself , and there's plenty left for everyone else. Ruffies love them, as do robins.
Sberry jam is fantastic. One of my favorites.
These shrubs were here all along, and I have just encouraged them with water and some fertilizer. They flourish here, all over the NW states , really. They grow fairly high up too, in elevation on the Rocky Mountain slopes.
