Notherns - 04/25/23 04:42 PM

I checked the creek this morning and the Northerns are finally running. They are a month later than last year. Didn’t see any big mommas, just small males. Not much runoff for the amount of snow we got. Hopefully there’s enough so they have a good spawn.

Plenty of water here but it is too cold for the snot rockets to spawn yet. When the frogs start croaking then they will be in the creeks.

Y’all laugh about that pic, but the first time I caught a Sheepshead it freaked me out! Human like teeth in a fish!

Pike only need 40 degree water to spawn. We had a pond out back growing up that we’d see pike in the open shallow edges while still ice in the middle.
They say the big females move up to spawn and are done in a matter of hours, the males stay on. Interesting fish. At least those spoiled muskies wait for things to warm up a bit.

Saltwater sheepshead have black, and white vertical stripes.

Freshwater drum are also called sheepshead, and look similar to Saltwater drum - red, and black.
