Has Anyone Tried Aromatherapy...???? - 05/01/23 04:26 PM
I am very much into non-traditional (AMA) medical practices and solutions. I have never pursued aromatherapy. I have been reading some about it and find there are several things I am afflicted with that is talked about in some of what I have seen. I hate taking any kind of drug that has any type of opioid in it.
My main concerns are depression and anxiety (PTSD) and the headaches and other stuff that comes with them. Some of the oils are quite expensive, so will have to try some of them that are not, first.
I am throwing this out there, to see who might have some experience with aromatherapy. It would help me to cut through some time to get to the bottom of the barrel.
If anyone doesn't feel comfortable discussing this in the open forum, send me a PM and I will respond.
Thank You ...

get you some toad frogs from Africa . Lick one . It will help you or kill you . Essential oils are the ticket to tree huggers fame and fortunes. Unless your sniffing pot all youll get is a headache and or lung cancer. Oils work on one premise. YOU BELIEVE THEY ARE WORKING !!! Try CBD oil rubbed in or better yet pot gummies. When politicians figure out how to get their cut pot gummies will be in gumball machines across the nation.
Buddy of mine has really bad PTSD from crippling arthritis. Meds infusions and topical ointments didn't help much . Now a pot gummy at bedtime and he is like a 30 year old in a 65 year olds body.
I wanted to try them but due to Dr and AMA / FDA guidelines I'm not allowed. (long story )

I do zone therapy. It helps with some things. The main being sleep. I'm a chronic insomniac. I'll go to a session and will sleep really well for about 2 weeks. Then it seems to start to wear off.
Basically what it is there are 6 zones in your body. What my therapist does is to press on different spots on my head. She then asks which one hurts the worst. Usually she can tell me before she even asks.
Then once I pick the area that hurt she takes a tuning fork and places it on each side of my spine, then gives me a very relaxing light massage in the area of my spine that correlates to that spot. The first session it felt like I got hit by a truck the next day. Then it went away and I was good. Now the "hit by a truck" feeling is almost non-existent.
I was extremely skeptical going into it at first. But after my second session I'm hooked.

I can't help with the aromatherapy.
But for PTSD, with a good practioner, EMDR Therapy is reported to be extremely helpful.

Sorry just got back home. Essential oils are a gimic. If you can get the pot gummies try them. NO ONE that I know that have used them said they don't work. Putting lavender oil on your feet or cucumber juice under your left nad only works if your mind tells you it does. Mind is powerful. Yes sister in law tried to get me in on a Ponzi oil scheme. Hand a trunk like a snake oil salesman. 25 different concoctions for everything that you can think of.
KNOWN medical fact pot will help !!!!

I still do not think that inhaling large amounts of anything is Good. I think Aroma therapy does not do anything. The Indians did it in their Medicine Huts and it was nothing but some Wacky Weed I think. But it made them Heap Big Power.

To a degree yes. Me and the gf along with others I know deal with depression anxiety and other stuff. Was reccomended to get her a some aromatic plants to grow in the house and it's helped her a bit.
They give a calming effect for those who WANT some help. If you don't think is gonna work it kinda won't. It's kind slick going to your mom's house and smelling the food she cooks and it puts you in a good head space. It's. It something you should use to treat cancer or serious mental issues but it definitely does have a place as far as helping lower stress and anxiety.

My aroma therapy is the fur shed:
Skunk essence
Fox urine
Mink glands
Castor
This is no lie or joke. They have a calming effect on me. Only coyote smell irritates me

Sorry jbyrd, many people I know (myself included) get anxiety from edibles. Even low doses.

Edibles are ok if you're used to smoking pot. If not they can mess you up pretty good. Also, although they claim to be consistent, you can get low dose and high dose ones out of the same batch.
No-one, I repeat, NO-ONE should start out by eating edibles. Vaping is about the only consistent way of doing it.
It's kinda weird too. Vaping mj is actually less harmful to your lungs than actually smoking flower. Unless you have severe asthma it is pretty safe. The taste is horrible though.

I thank most of you for your replies... Most of us already know "It's all In your head", at least those of us that still have a functionally working brain. If it wasn't in your head, you would be doing nothing, feeling nothing or anything else. When the different parts of your brain are affected, different parts of your body and mind are affected.
Emotions of all types; depression, anxiety, happiness, sadness, and even pain are felt. Just like many on here said, the emotional rise they get from the smell of different mundane things, like gunpowder, fur or even skunk essence.
Those of us that have and are living with depressions, anxieties resulting in bad headaches (PTSD) understand that it is, "ALL IN OUR HEAD". When something is in your head and is not a growth of some type, then it is electrical, according to how the brain functions. When you inhale the scents go directly to your brain. I guess there is a type of switchboard in there that then sends these odors to the place they need to go. After a time, when one is under a lot of stress, the wires in the switchboard wires all get plugged into the wrong ports.
So, going through everyday life, for most of us it is not always a happy, joyous, or pleasant time continuously and we can be faced with all types of situations, some that we are unable to cope with or easily resolve... POW!... PTSD kicks in... not that we want it too, but it is always there and it pushes all of the traumatic memories to the forefront where it can take over your entire existence.
After 40 years, since being diagnosed... it is still there. After much treatment and Drs., it is still there. Sometimes it may be in the background, where I don't notice it much, but it is always there. So, life is balanced between good times and bad times. The Drs. like to give you drugs... which turn you into a ZOMIE... no feelings at all. Kind of like the Dopeheads smoking their "whacky tobaccy".
So, the theory of aromatherapy is tantalizing at the least, I am sure that many of you that are also experiencing this problem can attest too. When you are feeling confident, happy, satisfied or other welling being effects, your daemons remain in the background. So, aromatherapy is NOT quackery as some may thing, but an alternative to what some believe. There was a time, not many years ago 1950's), that Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) were quacks. Now a large percent of the medical Drs. are not MD's but DO's.
I know from the few contributions in this post, there are others experiencing the same things I am experiencing. I am going to pursue the aromatherapy through my own research. I am not a medical professional, nor do I want to be, but I do have a brain that is still able to digest information and put it to use. You can be assured that if I get any positive or negative results that I believe may be of help to anyone with affliction... I will report it to you. There are some that might make jest of this post, but we know they are the fools.
Good Luck to those that are afflicted and God Bless You.

I know people that use it. It does seem to help them. My take on all non conventional practices is that if your mind believes it will work, it probably will.

Just my opinion.
When it comes to diseases or ailments that are caused by pathogens or physical damage (broken bones, cancer, etc.), then I can't see where aromatherapy would be of any use. However, if it makes you feel happy then by all means supplement the rational methods with it. Beaver castor, faint essence of skunk and such would be my recommendation.
However, if a person's head ailments are head related; stress, anxiety, etc., then aromatherapy might be a great tool. The power of suggestion/placebo effect are not to be discounted entirely. Aromatherapy and good counsel would probably be much better than drugs and psychotropics that just seem to really mess up so many people.

I have a friend who worked at the soda fountain of a local drugstore in the 50's. He says the local drunks would come in the morning for a shot of ammonia water. That would be aroma therapy to me
