All good deer . Some better than others. What might be a squirt to some could be the biggest deer ever seen on another property. A trophy is how the person hunting it looks at it. Same for every thing in life . That dream job your buddy just got might not be your ideal of happiness. Same for any deer others want to harvest
Their deer their tag
Absolutely correct. If the biggest deer on your ground is a 1 1/2 year old 6 point that’s the best you can do , I personally quit beating myself up over deer years ago and enjoy the hunt and I’m happy for anyone who harvests a fine animal
If the biggest deer is a 1.5 6pt it sounds like they need to not harvest any bucks for a while, lol. I get what you’re saying, but I also hear this same complaint that they just don’t have big deer on their property and shoot whatever. That right there is why they don’t have big deer on their property. It’s not about what hunters have or don’t have, it’s because they have an itchy trigger finger and have no self control. They’ll be the same ones screaming you can’t eat antlers. That in itself is a true statement, but if you can’t why do they shoot bucks? Why not shoot a few does for the freezer. Are there any states that doesn’t allow taking does? Heck, we get 10 here and I’m sure there’s States that allow a lot more.
Shooting a 1.5 or even a 2.5 year old buck may be the biggest they have, but it’s because they can’t/won’t let anything grow. What they fail to realize when they start talking about a buck has more meat than a doe is that a 5.5yr old buck has way more meat than a 1.5yr old buck.
I don’t care what anyone shoots as long as they don’t complain about deer management and how it’s driving the cost up to hunt. Yeah, you pay for a lease to be able to maximize the herd to their fullest potential. Isn’t that what hunting is all about. I read here about only taking certain animals at certain times because of their value. They’ll release young to grow. They even limit what they take on certain properties. Some do it for future fur, some do it for future bucks.
