That car or truck you wish you still had - 10/26/23 02:09 PM

Just thinking lately about the stuff I sold that I wish I still had, and it could drive you crazy if you let it. This 1976 bronco would be worth 20 times the $3000 I sold it for! These pics are from a trip out west with my wife shortly after we got married in 1979. I have photos of a Mustang fastback I sold in 1981 somewhere, I should dig them out. Sold it for $1200, I could probably buy a house with what it would be worth today.

I actually had 2 I really wish I still had. One was my early HS car, a '51 Ford Victoria very similar to the one pictured. Nine had spotlights on each side and had a crate flathead 8 engine. Loads of fun in that car! While I was away at college my Dad sold it for $25.

The other actually belonged to my older brother but I drove it more than he did. It was a chartreuse '69 Dodge SuperBee Six Pack. Won many an impromptu drag with it and as far as I know I still hold the speed record on Main St. in Pewaukee, Wi...85 mph. I was going for 100 but saw kids crossing way ahead of me so had to back off. That thing was stolen 3 times in Milwaukee. The last time all that was left was the shell of the body. They took everything else including seats, visors, engine, tranny, and my HS class ring which was on the dash.

I had a dark charcoal 1979 Ford F150 shortbox 4x4 with a small lift and 33" tires on nice rims. It was powered by a 429 that was balanced, blue printed, and wore a 750 Holley double pumper carb. on a high-rise aluminum intake. The interior was like a luxury car. I'd sure like to have it back.

Looked nearly identical to this one except I had tinted windows and better tires.

Main one I miss is a true "138 VIN code" 1967 Chevelle Super Sport. Special order 427 CI /425 HP, 4 speed car. Marina blue with black interior. Bought it for 200 bucks in 1977 from the original owner, because it kept slinging the driveshaft out everytime he got on it a bit... both motor mounts and the transmission mount were broken. Fifty dollars in parts and a few hours work.
Sold it for $2500 when I joined the USMC in 1980.
Would be a $100K (plus) car today.

My first truck, bought it when I was a junior in high school in 1970. 1948 International KB1. Paid $175 for it. Biggest drawback was it was a 6 volt.
O yah, the vacuum wipers were not that great either. I did find a 6 volt radio from JC Whittney so had a premier sound system.
Second best was a 1972 Chevy Blazer, 250 six and three on the tree. Four wheel drive and never looked back.

Back in the day, I had a 55 Ford Sunliner convertible. No rust. Let a guy talk me into selling to him. Wish I still had it.

In 1999 I had a medical accident that paralyzed my left side. Since I couldn't play piano anymore, I sold my Steinway piano. Eventually I was able to gain control of my left side and wish I'd never sold the piano.

55 chases and engine, 71 Chevy cap and some internal front end. Some local loggers built it for a skidded and traded my grandfather some welding projects for it. The box was built with 3/8 flat stock and had boxes built right into the old flair sides. Road on square military 17s and when you locked down into 4 low she would crawl. Grampa told me if I could get it running I could drive it. Learned a lot fixing that thing.

This about says it all. Everything about them says they want to hurt ya, and like Larson says... When you know you're going to crash, ya know its gonna hurt but ya hope not, lol.

Best thrill I ever had, with or without my pants on!

I would like my 57 Chevy Nomad. It had a 350hp. 327. A three speed stick (I would change that to a 5 speed).

The body was in great shape.

My 1965 Ford Falcon. I paid $150 for it and I'm pretty sure I got ripped off.
I want to travel back in time so that I can drive it through the front door of a bank and rob it of enough money so that I could have bought a car that I could now say, "what car or truck I wished I still had."
Other than that, I have nothing to talk about.
I am pretty fond of the sweet 1950 Chevrolet half ton that has been my daily driver for the past 10 years. I'll never get rid of it though.
