Saw one hand setters at the SC convention

Saw one hand setters at the SC convention - 10/29/23 11:35 PM

While at the SC convention, our own Tom Cat (Tman handle) had some one hand setters for Bridger #5 coils that he made. He said he made them because he wasn't able to get up with the fella who originally came out with them. Anyway, he had five of them on his table and they sold like hot cakes.

So Tom, give us the scoop on these, such as can folks order them, how much are they, what sizes do you have? I know you can't do pictures on here, but if you want to, you can email them to me and I'll post them for you. pdobbins@nc.rr.com

I know folks have been wanting to get some of these, and have been unsuccessful.

It's shame it came to this. Dave had an awesome invention with these. I wish he had gotten a patent and sold it to someone to cash in on his idea, if he couldn't keep up with demand. But it's the world we live in. If you can't keep up with demand just like the Li'Griz traps and the MB550's someone is going to fill the void.

Re: Saw one hand setters at the SC convention - 10/30/23 12:28 AM

Tom tried and tried to get up with him, but he wouldn't respond, so he made a set for himself. Then someone suggested that he make some more and take them to the convention. If Dave had gotten back with him and sold him a set, I know Tom would never have thought about making them himself. I don't think Dave is making them anymore.

Mr Paul you are exactly right. I've sent multiple emails and pms to Dave Sheldon. His are hands down the best 1 hand setters that were on the Market. But necessity is the mother of invention. So if I've offended anyone I'm truly sorry. But I was asking 45.00 at the convention and they flew off my table. I currently make the 1 size for #5 bridgers. And I will ship them thru the post office. Anyone who would like to get a set you can feel free to P.M. me.

Is that a Marlboro 100 in the hard pack?
I don't even have any Bridgers, but I feel compelled to buy some setters just based on the realizm conveyed by the presence of a cigarette in a video. smile

I sent Dave messages here and he read them and never replied. Several times. Still have them I reckon.

I have four sets of one hand setter made by Dave Sheldon. Cats butt for this almost 80 year old trapper with weak hands. Dave has medical problems, one is with his back. Hope he is overcoming his med problems.

I hope you get the back pain under control Dave, it can grind on you after awhile,I love the setters I got from you for the #5 bridgers.

I have a set of Daves for MB550 and 650's and another for MB750's. The one for the 750's saved me from driving somewhere to get help when I caught my left hand in a 750. Great invention!

Re: Saw one hand setters at the SC convention - 10/30/23 03:28 PM

I called and spoke to Dave about a month ago. He is indeed experiencing some health issues and not currently able to make any setters. He hoped to be back to making by the end of the year. I had him put my name on a list for a couple of sets.

That's good to hear. I wish he'd have at least communicated that to the folks who tried to contact him instead of ignoring them.

Just reading through this. As people have said, Dave's setters are great. I could never get a pair from him even after waiting for over 1-1/2 years. Lucky for me a fellow member sold me a set he had.

But, maybe Tom cat should try and get hold of Dave or someone in his family and see if they would entertain selling his equipment. He must have jigs/fixtures/benders plus material and a welding setup.

Just saying, it's already to use. If Dave's health is not good enough anymore maybe he would discuss selling to another member who would put it to good use.

Dave used to sell our RTS Setter and was tinkering with setting large long springs with it. When he stopped producing for personal reasons I sent him an email about buying his equipment etc. I didn’t get a response. I know he was going through some tough times health wise in his family.

Trapset I figured someone already reached out to him about it. And I'm honestly not trying to horn in or cut anyone's throat, but when I needed a pair and couldn't get them, I made a set for myself and thought I'm not the only trapper looking for them. And I sure wasn't wrong.

I have ordered the NO BS beaver x-treme one hand setter that Tom cat is making for me. I made and welded regular setters for the NO BS that work very well but I am really

looking forward to receiving the one hand setter. That just might get me out of a real mess. I haven't caught myself in a while but I know that I am due.
