Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/04/23 10:02 AM

Heres a breakdown what I told someone..in a nutshell
Hey Guy...Good Morning from Ohio. I was also diabetic type 2....blocked aorta they think defective from birth(heredity)in the men in my family. Leukemia 15 yrs no treatment.
I am now down to 161 lbs in about 5 weeks. Blood sugar without meds usually about 97-105 but this morning glucose 111 because i missed evening walk. I eat meat and fish....no snacking. I eat once a day ALWAYS before 6 pm. I drink ice water or black coffee or tea only. Nothing with sugar.
Calling me sir is like putting an elevator in an outhouse...doesnt fit........just call me steve or westriver but thanks for being respectful. The hardest part the first 3 days was carb withdrawl. When your gut tells you its hungry its lying. Its carb withdrawl. Just eat meat. In about 3-4 days the gut stops saying hungry. Then it becomes easy. I was on metformin and others for yrs....kills your body...stop. I take no precription meds anymore. Drs had me on 11.This way of eating is helping my body. I believe it will help you too. Medical field isnt helping...just masking the problem. And I trust God. Thats a relatively new thing to me. Was on the streets for yrs...no parents to speak of. mma fighter, street fighter...govt trapper...service...43-44 broken bones...u name it I did it. God has saved me from it all now. If I can help just ask or ill give you my phone number. Here willing to help....steve

Corky, I've been on a carnivore diet since Feb 4, 2023. I had chronic gout. I haven't had it since and also quit my gout meds, and two BP meds. I'm down between 60 - 65 lbs depending on how much activity I do. I'm 62 and haven't felt like this in years. I have blood work set for tomorrow, so far all the blood work since Feb has been great.

I usually eat from 2-4 pm and yes only once a day...no snacks. I try to eat a 4-6 oz piece of meat or chicken. The Dr who promotes this diet says you can eat many times or as much as you want but im trying to keep my stomache small.

Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/06/23 02:52 PM

So 4-6 ounces a day is just to get your weight down? What will you then eat to maintain your desired weight, while still having the energy to do physical stuff?

Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/07/23 10:06 AM

Kudos to you guys doing the carnivore diet, it sure eliminates all the unhealthy foods.

A person that just needs to lose weight and get healthy, will get pretty much the same results adding a few vegies. If nothing more than the enjoyment of the satisfying crunch it can give some gastric disturbances but might keep a person on track of their diet easier. I say once you can eat low carb and want to take it a step further try carnivore if you want.

Carbs really are not bad, and needed once your weight and health stabilized. When I was in Keto burning just fat, it was a struggle to find energy and was losing muscle mass quickly. Keto is a starvation diet eating all you want. When you run out of fat to burn you burn muscle six times faster than you did the fat. Extended Keto and you would look like Jewish prisoners in German prison camp.

Humans were meant to spike their blood sugar once in a while, Like when they find honey or a ripe fruit tree.

Mike Mentzer ate cookies and ice cream and won body building championships. It all depends on how much you burn vs how much you take in. It dont matter where you get your carbs as long as you burn them. It could be pure sugar and still lose weight.

Some people are skinny fat. Thats a slender person with a bit of a beer gut and maybe love handles. Think Asian Indian type body They have high amount of abdominal fat and that's the bad stuff. Most likely becoming insulin resistant or already type II diabetes. India has the highest rate of all countries, and they eat mostly vegies and rice.

Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/09/23 02:44 PM

Glad you are doing well on your diet Steve.

I took a different approach to losing weight. I've lost 28 pounds in 3 months. I walk 30 to 40 miles a week. I still drink pop, eat candy, eat pasta, etc. but, and this is a big but, I cut back on portions and seconds or even thirds and I for the most part don't eat anything after 6 in the evening. I've eaten a little ice cream at 9 or 10 a few times in that 3 months but mostly I've been able to abstain. Triglycerides are way down, cholesterol is down to 157, although the bad cholesterol is still too high supposedly. I've never had any problem with my sugar. The doc took me off one BP med and we will drop the other one in a couple months if all goes well. I have to wear a heart monitor for 30 days now but hopefully it will show nothing serious.

Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/10/23 12:14 PM

corky,

As yukonjeff posted, carbs aren't bad, most people just eat WAY too many and don't get enough physical activity.

Eat all the veggies you want. You do need some carbs to help with brain function. Make sure to get enough fat in your diet.

I've posted before, but, low carb is considered anything under 130grs of carbs per day. Pretty easy to do.

Take your pick on how you wish to achieve that.

Re: Carnivore diet update - 11/10/23 12:25 PM

I lost 15 lb in a month and a half 2 years ago when the Dr had me off work thinking I had MS.

Why? My guess is I was eating at home everyday and not traveling for work and eating fast food once or rice a day on the 14 out of 28 days of the month I'm scedualed to work. I was not working any of my days off back then.
