Me and my brother were in the river getting some sinker cypress logs yesterday. we were riding the bank looking for logs and came across this congregation of beavers sitting on the bank. I have spent alot of time in the river and I have trapped a long time and I have never seen anything like this. what do you think.
maybe a gator is in their lodge or bank den

Its a BLM protest.
Beaver Lives Matter.
Beavers don’t need lodges in the south. A lot of beaver where I live just hang out in the berry briars and pucker brush.

I had to lay sideways to see the photo. Just kidding. Either way it's a nice photo, thanks for posting it.

Recent high water/ flooding in the area?

No sir water is on a slow rise. There is fresh dug dirt around several bank dens. We stopped in one spot for me to walk up the bank to look at a log and about a 50 pounder came out of a bank den 5 feet from me and headed down to the water. My trapping partners are cletis Richards and Mark Conners neither of them have ever seen anything like that before either. I have been in the rivers around here for the last 40 years hunting, fishing and trapping and I really have never seen it before. I saw the river lower last year than I ever saw it and I crawfished in the back water during the 2011 flood still I have no explanation. But I will say I'm glad me and my brother got to see that.

Can't be, I don't think beavers loot or start fires, at least not here.

I'll take the beavers over Black Lives Matter.

Looks to me like a Yellowwood raid planning meeting, lol.
Have seen it with muskrats on a rat house.
They are waiting for their absentee Ballots.

Gosh, sorry guys. Thought the term was universal, not regional.

I would be very interested in hearing plausible explanations for this from some of this site's many beaver experts. I'm sure the OP would as well.
I’ve seen something like that during flooding events in Oregon. But dry ground being scarce it was understandable.
probably a Predator around

Never heard it called pucker brush, but I have certainly been in it before, where you have to decide whether to back out of it, or crawl along and pray that it gets better ahead soon. I was in a patch so bad one time that I near about gave up and contemplated screaming for help. Yes, I was indeed puckered up.
We call them wait-a-minute vines around here. Once you bull your way through, it looks like you lost a close battle with a wildcat.

Perhaps an infestation of fleas/ lice ran them out of their den.
