Re: 24hour campfire - 12/23/23 10:52 AM

Wolfie,
I'm on the campfire, but don't post much. Entertaining at times, but aggravating too. It's pretty much un-modded, just a free for all, especially in the "campfire" section. There's a vast amount of knowledge there, but also a vast amount of BS to go with it.
The 'ask the "gunwriters' forum has some decent info, but, there again, wading through the manure pit that surrounds it is mostly a pain.
There's a few guys on there that talk the talk AND walk the walk, but also a bunch that seem to live to turn every thread into a - measuring contest. Won't take long to figure out who they are.

Yeaaahhh I'm seeing that, been mainly in the gun forums , guys in the casting sub from AR really really nice long range guys seem cool, the main general forum.....egh when one of the first things somone says is
" well you better have some thick skin here cuz we dont care about feelings ..yadda yadda yadda"
it's like yeah I get I you think your some tough guy who can make people cry with your super tough words ,or whatever by calling me a liberal or some other genetic half insult I've heard a thousand times whistle like seriously I can basically play bingo with most of these guys, something something liberal somthign something democrat, something something somthing millennial, *yawn* why they can never be creative I beyond me heaver better insults from 10yr olds in call of duty lobbies . Mild irritation is about the most I get now days .got pretty bored with the tough guys in less then 15min. Decided I'd just stick to the gun and outdoor sub forums .Honestly most of these forms seem to have just become big measuring contests like you said or echo chambers idk no real point in complaining though.

Shame how the tone on many of these outdoor sites has changed over the years.
But, I guess it's just a reflection of society as a whole.
Add in the anonymity, and here we are.

Sad, really.
Was a great bunch of folks on Hunt America, exchanged info, planned out of state trips, and even hunted with a few.

TMan is by far the most civil

I went and read the post and I think you're right that he's Australian and I think that's why he used the antiquated word that he did... I think he was trying to determine if you were an American black of African descent as opposed to a Aboriginal black of Australian descent. Australians have always referred to black-skinned people as blacks, while in America even black people referred to themselves as "ne^^os" until the 1960s. Heck, even today in America we still have the United Negro College Fund.

Another one that I find fairly civil and informative is https://www.hunttalk.com/ . It’s run by Randy Newberg who is similar to Boss Dobbins in that he is a down to earth person with some real principles and desire to help folks and educate. It’s mainly hunting with a western focus. Happy trapping! ScottW

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/23/23 05:50 PM

The classifieds over on 24.. are very interesting and I’ve bought quite a bit of very good things, at good prices. Skies the limit on that over there.

Very hardcore opinionated people good, bad, and in between. I will say there are some really fore thinking intelligent people there, down in the sub forums in particular but again some are jerks about it and some are happy and helpful. Standard that some people act goofy in any cyber situation knowing they will never actually be toe to toe and eye to eye with those they are conversing with.

Great place to learn Wolfie glean what you can, let the fools be fools, so what? That’s life.

Don’t they have some kinda rules where the user who posted that would get a warning?

I havent been in 24 hour in a long time. But if you see any post or comments from 323 don't get suckered in. He is a great friend but he sure enjoys trolling that site at times.

Guess not, but on the bright side that means I don't have to be nice and polite like I usually have to grin

It's a horrible place. Your bank account will shrink and your gun cabinet will fill up.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/23/23 10:16 PM

Wolfie, avoid the "basement" forums! There is tons of eye candy on there. I sell a lot of gun stuff on there.........and seem to buy even more. Late at night after a few cocktails it is fun to slosh a little gas on the fire on some of the threads and then hit the rack. Cheap entertainment.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/23/23 10:35 PM

I have been a member of the 24hrCF since 2007. It is like most forums, it is what you want it to be. If you want to be an azzhole then by all means you can be. That is not my speed. I have met some great people and have learned quite a bit.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/23/23 10:52 PM

It's been years since I was on there. I never bothered posting anything, or even reading any of the posts. I was there for the classified section. Found a Kershaw multi tool and the guy drove halfway to me to sell it to me. I sold a bunch of range pickup brass to a guy on there. He gave me top dollar, so I didn't have to deal with a bunch of riff raff types.

I joined Sept 05, lots of good guys. And I have purchased many guns. Some good buys.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/24/23 01:25 AM

The classifieds can be very good. I've bought way more reloading components on there than I will ever use. A few people have had problems with a couple shysters, but I have never had any issues buying from the members over there.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/24/23 01:43 AM

24 hour campfire has at least 50 different forums. If you want to shoot or kill something, there is a forum there for you. I scan the free classifieds at least once a day. It is almost all guns and gun stuff, scopes, bullets, brass, etc. Some other stuff shows up.
I regularly read the Hunting Rifles forum. Lots of info there. You can ask question and usually get good answers. I also read the Big Game reloading forum. Tons of good info and if it isn't there, ask. Someone has experience with what you want to do.
Wolfie is reading the "Hunters Campfire". That forum is a blast I think. Lots of politics and lots of F U and F him or F her, but lots of hilarious stuff. Like this forum, members are almost all conservatives and blast any libs. I read that every evening for the info but also for entertainment and laughs.
Recently getting a 284 winchester rifle and bought all the brass and 7 mil bullets I need, I think. If you want something and don't see it, ask. Good chance someone has it.

Re: 24hour campfire - 12/24/23 10:49 AM

I am on it and as stated you will learn quick who the instigators are.
But the vast majority are good people and will help you out on just about anything.
I check the classifieds at least a have dozen times a day. I just sold a scope last nite when someone placed a WTB add.
