Found this old 6 volt Eveready battery.
I think they were more along the lines of the
metal can with a 6v light head mounted to it and a handle the batteries went in the can and got wired up
almost looked like a small tool box with a top handle and car headlight attached to the front.

That top connector looks to be about a 300 amp fuse size.

Dad had an electric fencer that had those early 60's that i remember it don't know when it was bought

Those old batteries were called "dry cell" batteries, used for odds & ends direct voltage hookups..

I remember , my dad worked for a rural telephone company.In the 1940 -50 era They had the old wooden telephones with the mouthpiece on the front and an ear piece you held in your hand THere were 3 of these batteries in a box at the bottom. The barrery;s would run down and need replacing .probably once a year. old 243

Old dry cell batteries, I saw them being used for doorbells in the fifties!
