Photo trickery

Fella is at least an arm's length behind that beaver

We killed one when I was in high school that weighed 78# on a spring scale (like viking) and I don't like telling that because it seems excessive based on what I see posted on here
It was definitely a big one

I seen that article also. I have seen one beaver that was right at 80 lbs on a scale at the fur buyer years ago. It was huge. Never seen one that size ever again.

It's a massive beaver, one we'd all be proud to catch

lets Not show our jealousy

The normies are just fascinated with how big beaver get. You show em a run of the mill 40# beaver and they think it's huge.

Re: Interesting local newspaper claim 120lb beaver - 03/09/24 12:27 PM

My old buyer back in the early 00's had a 90# come in to his shop. Said he had to use 2 beaver boards to board it.

Here’s Triple Nickles (RIP) 102lb beaver. Don’t think that’s him in the pic though,

It's definitely a very large beaver, but 120 might be a stretch.

I remember a picture in the Wichita Eagle of one that was over a 100 lbs. and came out of the Arkansas, and supposedly a state record. I was in high school when I saw that picture and cut it out, that was over 50 years ago. I was just learning how to trap beaver then, that really made an impression on me, never dreamed one could get that big.

A guy can put a nice fish or buck deer or anything else out in front like this and make it appear bigger.

Yep...I'm a doubter on that 120lb beaver.

Proud to catch one that big? No...I'd rather catch two 60 pounders....$$

Re: Interesting local newspaper claim 120lb beaver - 03/09/24 05:56 PM

Biggest I have ever got was 70#.

Biggest I have ever seen was on the Whitewater in the early 90's and we were trout fishing. There was a beaver in the water 10 feet away from me thinking it was hiding alongside a log. From where its nose was to the end of his tail was over 6 foot long. Maybe 7. My friend would not get back into the water.

Size is gonna depend on food, location and predators.. Beaver grow their entire lives .. When I first started beaver trapping around 25 years ago no one had beaver trapped in our area for generations.. Beaver were relatively new to our environment.Maybe been there 15 years The grew, feed on corn and breed with no check what so ever.. By the time I started trapping them they were everywhere.. I had the game Warden and district biologist calling me non stop...
Im not kidding at all.. I caught 60 pound beaver almost every where I trapped.. Weighed 60 pound beaver.. First two seasons I caught several over 70.. Big beaver were all over because they had more corn than they could eat and no check, no trappers and no predators..
That 94 pound beaver came from a corn field, where she had dug a hole so big the farmers tractor dropped 4' down in a hole more than 20' from the waters edge...

I caught a 72 pounder one year out of a pond for a church camp. Tagged my cats that year at the state office at Pomona reservoir. Told the biologist about it and he said might be a record. I had already skinned it but he got some stuff out of a file cabinet. said it was 120 something. I dont know if he meant state or national. Was at least 20 years ago. They can get that big apparently.

I've read that before that supposedly beaver continue to grow all their lives. Not sure that's true. When their health declines they may actually decrease in weight as they got no fat...just skinny and lean.

A transplant beaver was caught in Oregon with ear tag and documented 15 years age. Sure wasn't no 80 lb beaver.

Biggest I have gotten is 72# and I was using a 40# cement block for a drowning weight which he had drug up on the dam and was sitting there when I showed up. Our local game warden who was also a state trapper got one down in southeastern NE at a city park on ADC work that weigh in at 105# but that was 50+ years ago.
