Cubs really blew it last night. Counsell ain't much of a coach IMO, never have liked him.

I don't miss him. He drove me crazy taking out pitchers that were doing well and putting in guys that gave up homers. He really played favorites with his pitching staff. He won a ton of games but his system failed in the playoffs and I don't recall a lot of tears being shed by the players when he defected.

He's been doing just the opposite for the Cubs. Leaving in the pitchers too long until there's no coming back.

As long as he leaves the hitting to the hitting coach.. I always hated his stance, how he seen the ball was beyond me.

Good job from the Cubs tonight. Morel with the grand salami was more than the Padres could handle tonight.

What I like about todays MLB is there is a lot of new stars getting a chance to show what they can do Only time will tell but a lot of not so good teams over the past 10 to 12 year have some exciting 20 some olds that can make a difference on the field the base paths and in the batters box Right now the Pirates Reds and Orioles are all off to a good start In the old In the past 20 or so years the game became aging former good players that had used performance enhancing drugs so hey could get paid millions of dollars The athletic ability had long since been lost by the time the player reached the age of big dollar contracts .With the new rule changes good defense and stealing bases is a very valuable way of getting and keeping playing time And speed in the base paths is much more exciting than watching and old ball player strike out Many of the younger guys are glad to be on the field and want to win AND THEY STILL THINK MAKING $750000.00 to $1.5 million to play baseball a really good way to make a living With the young really talented guys getting a start in a more
fast pace game I think MLB could be at the beginning of a large growth in the sport With lots of impressive young players all coming on the scene at this time baseball could quickly become the sport to get interested in If I could pick a group of rookie and 2nd year players to play against a team of players that have been playing al all star type baseball for a long period of time I would dfeel petty confident that my all stars would be able to hang with the best of the best t am a Yankee fan but there aere sme soon to be great young players all over both leagues Ad that will be good for the future of baseball

Too my surprise the cards are hanging around 500, and hanging with some teams. I had no hope for them this year, all the moves they made were old arms to the rotation.. gray had a good year last year but what about every year before I wasn't impressed with that add on, maybe if we added a true number 1 pitcher and he be number 2. But hey they are hanging.. and the young guys will only get better with more reps. I still dont have high hopes.

What aggravates me with baseball it's becoming home run or bust. The cardinals never stole a base last year, I think edmans lead the team with maybe 20. When acuna Jr. Had over 50 when we had 14. Small ball wins games. Not as fancy but you win.. last year example. Walker started the season with him being a rookie 12 hit game streak. He started to struggle,as a rookie would. they sent him back down.. not to help him see the ball, throw different pitches to him that he was struggling with, but to work on launch angle so he can hit more hume runs.. he just came off the greatest streak as a rookie had seen..

Matt carpenter one year led the league with most doubles, sprayed the ball all over, also showed some pop had like 30 homers.. next year lowest batting avg, most strike outs and pulled the ball every dang time.. because all we worked on was homers.. Nolan Gorman is the same way, everytime he gets up I say there a strike out.... last year early he seen the ball and was hammering it to every part of the field, wasn't enough Homer's you need to be dead pull hitter and strike out 70 percent of the time.

Wins don't sell tickets any more home runs do.. me personally I rather watch a game of singles, steals and bunts over 3 home runs and 30 others striking out.
It's sad that they had to take the shift out of the game, these guys make millions of dollars you think they could hit it some where else other then a team knows to stand because you only hit it one direction. Rod crew, Tony Gwen pete rose, would have a hay day with the shift... back in the day no one would have thought about a shift the whole game. The shift was ruining baseball, no the over paid players who don't know how to play the game lime it should be are. Heck 1 team goes in high and tight, both teams get warnings. Makes the other team scared to pitch inside because you get the boot you have to use a bull pen. Bob Gibson would drill the ump between the eyes if he was waned from the other team pitching inside lol.

Yes I am a baseball fan I remember when Warren Spahn Gaylord Perry Phil and Joe Neiko Whitey Ford &Bob Gibson owned the pitcher's mound And if you did not agree get ready to be reminded of why that was and how that fact would be drilled into your ribcage That way you would still understand how it felt for the next few days And the great hitters would show their thoughts about who owned who by putting a pitch over the outfield wall I think I think I see some of the old school ways of baseball coming back to the fore front of the sport Players giving their best effort so their team wins And a tp of the cap when the opposing team makes great play The Orioles have 3 or 4 young super stars with Adley Rutshman Gunner Henderson and Jackson Holliday (JUST SAY THEIR NAMES TOGETHER SLOWY BECAUSE YOU WILL HEAR THEM A LOT FOR THE NEXT DECADE OR MAYBE 2) along with a dugout full of other young players just a notch below the stars wanting to get their chance to show what they can do Likewise the Pirates have a really good player at 3rd base next to a astounding star to be in O Neil Cruz a 6 '11' short stop with a rocket for an arm And he is built to launch balls into the stands And even with the new rules designed to protect the fielders on tag plays imagine a 6'11' 300 lb pound player sliding into home plate with the winning run in the balance of the outcome of the game depending on is he safe or out ? And at first they have
RowdyTellez about a little below average player that goes all out all the time The kind of guy that is at his best when the situation needs the best effort possible They could surprise many by taking a wide open division Also the Reds played well the second half of last year before falling back at the end of the season last summer Ellly de la Cruz and Spence Steer burst on to the scene last summer with eye popping athletic ability And so far this year have shown it is for real Along with some other good young talent and some hopefully reliable pitching will have a team to be reckoned with ever time they take the field it will be a lt of exciting games, plays and great young players for the fans to want to root for their team

The Phillies walked off in the 10th inning for a 2-1 win. I am beginning to wonder when they will start to hit, 4 batters in the lineup last night with below .200 batting averages.

Cubs have 2 of those guys too and a couple more just barely over the 200 mark. They'll need to hit tonight to stay ahead off the runs Hendricks gives up. He's off to a terrible start this year. Lots of folks wondering if he's going to be able to continue.

Good news is everyone else lost yesterday in the NLC but the Cardnials, so the Cubs moved up in the standings, Still a very close race.

Thompson does things I don't understand. He is big on using right handed batters when the pitcher is left handed. Last night his starting lineup had 4 hitters batting below 200 in it. I think they get Harper back today. Even with that lineup and without Harper for the 3rd day, they would have won if they would have a decent bullpen. Turnbull has been a lights out starter thus far, but guess what. With Walker going off the disable list Turnbull is being moved to the bullpen. I doubt Walker will even get close to matching Turnbull's numbers, but then again, the bullpen needs help. I actually think the bullpen could be effective if it was used properly. Turnbull's ERA is 1.33 pitching in 5 games. Walker will be lucky to have an ERA under 5.5.

I don't know why they don't ever listen to us. lol Leaving pitchers in too long, taking them out too soon, bringing in the wrong ones, etc... same for the hitters, I tell them to take a pitch they swing, I tell them to swing, they take the pitch. Very frustrating for those of us who are always right.

Some Stats for the Phillies. Their starting pitchers have been lights out. Wheeler 1.93 ERA, Suraez 1.36 ERA, Turnbull 1.33 ERA, Sanchez 2.96 ERA and Nola 3.16 ERA.

Relief pitchers used in the two losses to the Reds, Pinto 10.97 ERA, Soto 8.22 ERA and Dominquez9.72 ERA, relief pitchers not used in the 2 losses, Hoffman 1.59 ERA and Kerkering 0.00.

Batters in the line up in the 2 losses to the Reds, Schwarber .194, Merrifield .179, Castellanos .177, Pache .133 and Stubbs .125.

I wish they would have signed Rys Hoskins and traded Castellanos. Harper could have moved back to right field and Hosking could be playing first base. Hoskins is a more consistent hitter than Castellanos.

People will say Thompson is doing a good job. However, I feel with the talent he has they should be winning more games.

Quite a game, they looked good, then looked like crap, then came back to look good again and pull off the win. Castellanos looked pretty good tonight.

The bottom 3 hitters pulled it out. Once again, Thompson almost gave it away with the way he used his relief pitchers. They have a young reliever by the name of Orion Kerkering that supposedly has lights out stuff, he has only appeared in 5 games. I have no clue what they are saving him for. If Castellanos and Harper start hitting they could make things interesting. I guess their record might be a little misleading and they have been playing mostly bottom feeders, they are only 4 and 6 against teams with better than .500 records That means 21 of their 31 games have been against sub .500 teams..

Uribe throws a nice overhand punch. Too bad he isn't that accurate finding the strike zone. The Brewers have a thin pitching staff due to injuries and then this bonehead starts a fight. I imagine a suspension is coming.

Not many games today but the Cubs are looking win the series if they can somehow eek out a victory over the Mets. Then tomorrow they face the Brewers for three games at home. I sure wish we had our guys healthy so they could play. Bellinger and Suzuki are greatly missed bats as well as one of our ace starters Steele. They have been getting by, but sure would be nice to have a full healthy team.

The Cubs are playing .500 ball against teams with a winning record, that isn't too shabby.

Good to see the crew take the first game against the cubs. Helpful when you can shut down the other team in the later innings even when your closer is on DL. Helpful when the offense still finds a way to score when you are missing your second best bat in Yelich. Going to get tougher for the crew next couple games.

This is like the 4th or 5th game in a row that Alzolay has pitched and blown the save, he does that on a very regular basis. I can not believe they are stupid enough to put him in in a close game but I've never been impressed with Council or his decisions.

Good to see the Brewers win. Council may be trying to help Alzolay build some confidence, aftger all it is a long season and especially so if your closing pitchers are not capable of shutting down in the late innings.

Starter tonight went 8 1/3 scoreless innings and the Cubs only managed one lousy run through 7 innings. Now they are down 2-1 and will be dang lucky if they don't lose another one tonight.

Cubs squeaked out a win somehow. Royals really screwed the pooch tonight. 2 outs and no one on base in the 9th, and they give up 3 runs to lose to the lowly Brewers.

I thought Kansas City had it in the bag… I could not believe it when I saw that bottom of the 9th that the brewers took the lead.
Imanaga pitched another gem tonight.. 42 plus innings and eventually gave up a homer,, still not too shabby.
I think counsel should have brought in Ben brown instead of having shota go over 100 pitches, to keep his era intact…but he still has a phenomenal era and we got lucky with Busch’s bat

And what makes it worse,, is that the injury could have been prevented.
The coaching staff suggested that Wilson move up a little closer to the batter to get more calls on the low strikes..

Yelich finally back in the lineup yesterday for the Brewers. Knocked the rust off and now offense is scoring a little easier. Also helps the brewers are playing the lowly cardinals.

I wish those lowly Cards would beat them a time or two. Cubs beat the Pirates, who seem to have completely fallen apart, lost at least 10 of their last 11.

The Cubs get to face Paul Skenes debut today. He is the number 2 prospect in baseball. I understand he has a triple digit fast ball. Supposedly has a 5 pitch arsenal. With the buildup he is getting he will probably disappoint a lot of Buc fans today.

Bellinger hit one of those triple digit fastballs 343 yesterday into the bleachers in right field. Big leagues can be a little tougher than AAA. Hopefully the Cubs can get him figured out early.

Embarrassing loss today for the Cubs. How'd the Phillies fare NL?

The Phillies beat the Marlins, probably the worst team in baseball. I wanted to watch the Cub/Pirate game just to see the Pirates rookie pitcher that was getting such a build up in my neck of the woods, the game was blacked out in my area. The Phillies have some sort of a contract with a Philadelphia TV station, I hardly ever get to watch them because most of their games are blacked out, I only ever get to see them if they are on Fox or ESPN.

Looks like they blew it today NL.

Cubs did get the win but it wasn't pretty. Even the Cards managed a victory today over the lowly Brewers. lol

The lowly Marlins got to the Phils best pitcher today.

The Mets hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9tj inning last night to beat the Braves, thank you Mets, I enjoyed that. We are about to find out how deep the Phillies are, the injuries are starting to mount. Turner is out for what appears to be 5 more weeks, Realmuto has a bad knee and is day to day, Schwarber has back issues and is day to day. Someone will have to step it up.for the series with the Mets.

I wouldn't hold my breath that the Cubs help you with the Braves NL. They have a good pitcher today though, if they can score a few runs to help him out.

I have ben a fan of baseball since the early 1960's At that time there where many great stars in the game and some of the best players ever to play the game had Hall of Fame careers . But in the negative side it was also a time of performance enhancing drugs and baseball became a slow boring game that often had payers that where not very good athletes Due o some changes in how the game is being conducted as far as the pitch clock and rules regarding pitching changes ad stolen base attempts the game is quickly going back to a game that is geared t the more talented athletic type of player Games are much faster paced and action packed And young teams that have players that are still learning how to refine their skills have a chance on any given game to win using their talent of speed and playing the old fashioned game of advancing the runner and hit and run and so forth There are a lot of up and coming teams that are just a player or 2 away from being good teams And with some of the rising stars taking the next step and having a few more young stars just bout to join the big leagues base ball is a suddenly exciting again

The Phillies swept the Nationals this weekend. Now we will see how they do against Texas. It seems unreal, but the Phillies have only played 3 games against teams with a winning record, all three were against the Braves and they lost two of them. So maybe their won/lost record is a bit deceiving.

Thanks to the Padres beating the Braves the Padres now have a winning record so the Phillies record against teams with a winning record is now 4 and 2..

The Cubs exploded in extra innings, the Phillies didn't, the bats are cold.

Tough loss for the Phills. They had opportunities but couldn't capitalize on them. Cub's relievers tried hard to give the game away but luckily held them off just long enough.

Hard to believe but the Indians are still hanging in there. They are a half game behind the Phillies for the best record in baseball. They lost their best starting pitcher and one of their best relievers for the season in early April. Still a long ways to go.

Glad to see the worst umpire in baseball retire. Several years ago he sued MLB for discrimination. He wasn't getting to work the playoffs and wasn't promoted to crew chief. He said it was because he was Hispanic. He lost because they weren't discriminating. He was just so bad that nobody wanted him in the playoffs. Baseball wanted rid of him for years but the umpire union kept him from getting fired.

Indians are 9-1 in their last 10 games, hottest team in baseball right now, but that can change in a hurry. Enjoy it while it lasts.

With Acuna out for the season and about 4 pitchers on the disable list the Braves are really struggling. The Phillies are hopeful Turner will be back in the lineup soon. He is projected to be back early to the middle of June. It is hard to believe, but before long the season will reach the half way point. That also means the trade deadline will soon be here. Since the Phillies did very little in the off season, I doubt they will do much leading up to the trade deadline, I think they will pretty much go with what they have.

To date the Brewers have are tied for highest Batting average for a team in the MLB. They have habitually been in the bottom 1/3rd for several years. They are the only team in the NL central batting better after 50 some games the the other 4 teams.

Cubs are a big dumpster fire right now. They need to get some hot bats and reliever/closer type pitchers. Trade talks are in the works. I think Counsel is the worst manager they have had in many years too.

Brewers starting rotation isn’t much, but keeps them in most games where they can win with their bullpen. A different guy got a save today. I think they have eight players with at least one this year.

Offense knows if they can get a lead, they will win. Defense has been pretty good this year and it always helps when you don’t give the team extra outs.

We will see how the Brewers fare when the match up against the Phillies for a few games. They are playing good ball but got beat by STL in 10 today.

Cubs have almost twice the salary the Brewers do but struggle to maintain consistant better play. Not too much different than in the past. Owners and GM probably thought a new manager may change the status quo, but when you get high salaried players who don't feel they need to be coached, results are not always what they would seem to be on paper. I much prefer to watch and follow young teams with players trying to improve their game then a group of high paid atheletes wondering what is the next best thing comming their way.

I see Marsh is on thre IL for the Phillies. Good player in my mind, how impactful has he been in their season to date?

Marsh started off really well, he tailed off a bit recently but I like his play and hustle and I think he inspires other players. He is a good team player. I just wish he would get a hair cut and trim his beard, lol.

He is a reliever. They do it so their marginal starting pitcher(s) faces the top of the order one less time. Very likely he will start again tomorrow and turn the ball over to Rea. The backend of their starting rotation needs all the help they can get.

The rookie Robert Gasser has an arm issue now so it will be interesting who has to step in if he needs to miss some time. It really has been a revolving door for pitchers for the crew. Not sure how they have been this competitive with this rotation.

That is good strategy, start a left hander so the opposing team loads their line up with right handed batters and then bring in a right hander for the second inning.

A real nail biter tonight. The Phillies scored late to tie and won in 10 innings.

Not getting much offense against the Phillies pitching. Phillies are playing good and smart baseball right now. I think they could give the Braves a real test even if the Braves did not have all the injuries they have. NYY are playing really solid as well.

For me the most impressive thing about this season so far has been the pitching staff of the N Y Yankees They have dominated the teams tat they have played And ty are setting new records some of which where set more than 100 a .go It has after about 1/3 of the season having been played been a historical And to add to what they have doing It has been accomplished without Gerrit Cole pitching a single inning. Cole is the Yankees best pitcher and was the CY YOUNG award winning in the American League

Brewers are happy to be out of Philly and are taking out their frustration out on the Tigers. Scored more runs in one inning against Detroit than they did in a three game series against tithe tigers. They were overdue for a hit with runners in scoring position.

The mets salaries are 305million or 3.25 times higher. Yankees, Dodgers and Phillies are doing the best out of the highest salaried teams, several other high salary teams are not doing very well.

After battling through right knee pain on and off for more than a month, Realmuto and the Phillies opted for surgery to fix the issue, which he underwent on June 12. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said that Realmuto is expected to miss "about a month."

With the 2024 All-Star Game scheduled for July 16 this season, the All-Star break could give Realmuto a little extra time to possibly return at the start of the second half. (Last updated: June 12)

Cubs lose one day 11-1 and win 8-1 the next day vs. the same team. Phillies lost yesterday too and won today 12-1, same team. Crazy how that happens.

I just read an article that the Phillies are putting Walker on the injured list for 15 days in hopes he finds his bread and butter pitch the "Splitter". Spencer Turnbull will take his place in the rotation, I hope Spencer can pick up where he left off when Walker came off the DL from the start of the season. Turnbull was pitching extremely well and I could not understand why they moved Walker in the rotation and Turnbull became a seldom used relief pitcher. Needless to say I am now a "happy camper", The Phillies now have a pretty good w/l record against teams with a 500 or better win percentage, they are now 15 and 9 against those teams.

I hope the Phillies keep winning. I'm going to have to root for the Braves in their next three games.

Cubs blew another one. I am done watching their stupidity for awhile. They can’t be competitive when they have nearly 30 plate appearances with runners on base, including twice with bases loaded and no outs and once with runners on first and third and no outs, and they put 4 lousy runs on the board. Starting pitcher does good only giving up 2 runs in 7 1/3. Then they bring in a guy in the 8th who pitches great to get out the 3&4 hitters to get out of a jam, and what does that retarded brewers coach do? He replaces him in the 9th only to a couple mediocre (at best) pitchers that give up 3 runs to lose the game.

With the trade deadline coming up the Cubs would be smart to latch onto a relief pitcher or two. It wasn't that long ago the Phillies bullpen blew games right and left. I still question some of the moves Thomson makes with his bullpen. I guess now days a relief pitcher is only good for one inning regardless of how well he does, I've seen the Phillies bring a relief pitcher in with two outs and only throw a couple pitches and get replaced the next inning. And yes, I've seen the new pitcher come in and blow the save.

Can’t call them the lowly cardinals any longer. I guess we will save that for the cubs now.

Brewers were happy to get out of San Diego—salvaged the last game to keep from getting swept in a four game series. Hoskins hit a grand slam to beat the rangers last night at home. Starters have been taxing the bullpen that they have shown signs of cracking. Now II heard they traded for Keuchel for a bag of balls. Going to see if their pitching lab can resurrect another 36 year old.

The Indians plucked the birds for the 2nd straight night. And now, for at least a day, the Indians have the best record in baseball. Sorry Nittany Lion.

They need some starters that can go 6 or 7 innings. They have the best bullpen in baseball but they are going to get burned out with the amount of innings they are having to pitch night after night.

I don't have all the stats from all the teams but they show different stats on the televised broadcasts at times and they say they have the # 1 bullpen. They may be biased since it is an Indians broadcast. LOL

I'm sure the stats change as each game is played and maybe one day they are the best and then the next they aren't.

Put it this way. Their bullpen is great and if it wasn't for them they wouldn't be anywhere close to where they are in wins.

Their closer has an ERA under 1 and 3 or 4 of their set up men have an ERA under 2 or at least it was before last night.

Brewers completed the sweep of the Rangers with a walk off win in the 10th. Kuechel gave up 5 runs in 4 innings but offense hit a grand slam and an inside the park HR. Bullpen didn’t give up a run.

I think this was a sacrificial game to let the guys in the bullpen get some much needed rest. Tonight the manager put a guy in the game that they just called up a couple days ago. The game was tied 2-2 when he put him in. He gave up 2 solo homeruns in 3 innings. Normally in a close game he puts the better guys in and they do the job most of the time. At least the other guys got a night off.

The Phillies starter lasted 3 innings and left the game with shoulder tightness. The manager used 6 relief pitchers after that, he used 4 of his best, even after they had a 4 run lead. What ever happened to a relief pitcher that could pitch more than one inning?

Miles is horrible tonight, I think I can pitch better tonight.

And I would be a fraction of the cost.

The Phillies bullpen sucked last night, the Marlins scored 7 times in the last 3 innings. Harper might be down a while, he injured his leg (hamstring) on the last play of the game and Schwarber left early with a groin injury, they also lost two pitchers in the past few days. The injury bug has hit them hard.

The Phillies did not need the bullpen last night as Sanchez pitched a shutout.

Cubs still sucking, but managed to beat the lowly Brewers today.

He gave up those 7 runs in less than 4 innings of work so that works out to an ERA over 15. The brewers significantly drove up his ERA that day. Even the game the brewers lost, they got help from the blue when he decided to expand the zone in the ninth. He must have felt bad for the cubs too.

Watching that three game series, I can see why folks quit watching the cubs. It’s like a little league team out there and their bullpen didn’t even explode. lol

You had Bellinger running first to third with one out on a lazy fly ball and you had Happ doing circles on the warning track on a routine fly ball. They have a 200 M dollar payroll and are getting minimum wage production out of the roster.

It's one game. Season is long. 7 runs should do it but the las two releavers were not effective. Rockies have a high team batting average but pitching is the bottom of the MLB. If we can keep winning series we will be OK.
One of the pre-season polls had the Brewers ranked 4th with Cards, Chicago and the Reds above them. So far the Brewers are playing above expectations or the other 3 teams are playing far below expectations. Cards are starting to a play better, even with their two big bats not having good seasons. Cubs salary is almost twice the Brewers so wins are more than trwice as costly for the Cubs then the Brewers. I don't put a lot of that blame on the new manager either. If you are a veteran and you need someone to motivate you to play more intensevely then that is on the player in my opinion. I guess if you can make 10-15 million a year and win 70 games the life is pretty good.

Trade rumors with cards bringing in louis Robert's jr from white soxs I'm not sure why his stats aren't that great. We need to get rid of a 2nd baseman and find a new one of them. Gorman is horrible! Has one good game and ever one goes on how good he is, but good night probably leading the league in strike outs, 1 homerun to 10 strike outs isn't very good. Oli says he is having problems figuring out pitches, if you don't know off speed by this time in your career your never going to learn. Batting under .200 and the other day he had him batting clean-up, why???thats how stupid our manager is.

I remember a lot of seasons where the Phillies sucked. I am just happy that at my old age the Phillies are having a great season thus far. David Dombrowski has put a good team together, and they have an owner that is willing to spend money to acquire good players. Although I question lots of moves the manager makes, the players like him, and they play hard for him. I haven't followed the Cubs very closely, but I think they have some good players and they have an owner willing to spend some money, they just don't seem to be playing together as a team. I played a lot of softball when I became too old to play baseball at a completive level. Our manager would pick up what I called ringers for when we played in tournaments. We never did very well and I always thought th problem was him bringing in these players for tournaments caused dissention among the regular players. The last year I played he did not bring in stud players, but he stuck with the team he had and we won the State Championship. I think it happens all the time in major league baseball where teams pick up the high cost players but they do not play together very well. That might be the Cubs problem, and the manager needs to fix that. I suspect the players do not respect the current manager.

Cubs have a very high rated farm system, so they have several options. They can sell off a lot of their expensive medicore players and lower salaries or they can trade good potential for more current talent. Being very unlikely to move up much this year they may prefer selling and planning for the future. That will be a downer for the fans but then building for the future worked for teams like the Orioles and others. The Nationals trade of selling off Soto to the Padres looks better today with 3 20-22 year old key players in key positions, a starter a SS and a Center fielder.
Brewers lost 2 out of 3 to the Rockies and now a couple games against the Dodgers b4 the alstar break. The Cardinals have been one of the hotter teams the last 40-50 games. They were the pre season favorites to win the N> Central. Brewers will have to play well. Hitting is much improved over the last years, pitching is a bit more iffy, although team ERA is in the top 1/3rd.

Alvardo blew another game, I don't think he pitched well since early June, his last 12 innings he pitched he has given up 10 earned runs, and walked 7 batters. Yet Thomson keeps on using him when he has another left hander (Strahm) he could use in closer situations. The Phillies could use a right handed batter who plays the outfield, they suck when facing a left handed pitcher.

Lowly Cardinals didn't help you out NL. Hopefully your guys get it together tonight. I'm holding out more hope for them than the mighty Cubs.

The Pirates are playing some great baseball. One thing I noticed is they know how to move the runners. The Phillies on the other hand seem to wait for someone to hit the long ball. I think the Pirates are a well coached team, if they had some better players they would be a force to be reckoned with.

The Phillies blew a 4-1 lead late, the relief pitcher retired the first batter the bottom of the 7th and then walked two batters and hit a third batter with his pitch, a double cleared the bases and then another relief pitcher gave up a run in the 9th. The Phils and the Indians each have a rookie pitcher starting for the first time today, should make for an interesting game. Early in the season when Walker came of the injury list the Phillies had 6 starting pitchers, due to injuries they are down to 3 from the original 6. I never knew it took so long for a blister to heal, but that is the case with Walker, he has been on the injured list since June 23rd.

Cubs won big yesterday. Everyone else in the division lost. That was a good day. We'll see how they do today, if they have figured anything out.

You boys pick up anything from trade? Cards picked up some white soxs, pitcher fedde and Tommy pham, came back. Traded Carlson for a relief pitcher I'm not sure who he is.. not sure if we got anything but warm bodies in spots we needed someone. Could have traded the 2nd basemen for a used washer and I still would have thought we got the better end of the trade.

Cubs gave up Morel who promptly homers for his new team, the Rays, for a guy who ain't done nothing for them. Shipped out their very best reliever to the Yankees for a couple nobody youngins. Never attempted to acquire a closer, which they have not had one all year long. Made no effort to trade anyone else because, well mainly, no one wants them. Still have the worst GM and head coach in MLB though!

2/3 of the season gone and the Indians again , if only for a day, have the best record in baseball. Baltimore is coming to town for a 4 game series. Hopefully we can at least get a split.

The Phillies couldn't win at home now they start a 10 game road trip on the West Coast.

He did look good at times but other times, not so much. The Cubbies hung 8 runs on him and 5 more on the relievers. Avoided the sweep and Bellinger back in the line up off the il, looked pretty good. Reds only got 4 runs with Hendricks starting, that ain't good.

Big win for the Cubs over the Lowly Cards. 3 runs and walk it off vs their "closer".

That was a dramatic win for the Cubs. MLB broadcast the game so I got to watch it.

7 shut out innings for the Cards, wasn't enough though. Cubs finally wised u, for at least this game and pitched around Goldschmitt when the bases were loaded. Smart pitching with a 5 run lead. Merryweather tried to lose it for the Cubs but the Cards wouldn't take it.

The Phillies broke their losing streak today, Wheeler pitched shutout ball over 8 innings, and Ruiz finished off the shutout. Their bats finally came alive late in the game for a 6-0 win.

Cubs scored the same 6 runs, but let the lowly Cards score two. 3 of 4 for the Cubs and should of been a sweep! Go Cubs Go.

The White Sox are approaching a record the Phillies have. The Sox have now lost 20 consecutive games. The Phillies lost 23 in a row in 1961, which is the current modern day record for Major League baseball.

Currently not one MLB team has a .600 winning percentage. Things are evening out. We will see how the last 50 games go. Lot of injuries as players get banged up. Brewers get 10 runs, would be nice to spread those around a bit better. Brewers have used 36 different pitchers with 17 of those different starters! They traded Burns because they felt Peralta would step up, but he has struggled this season.

That was a great W for the Phillies. I value my sleep, lol. I decided to go to bed with the Phillies trailing 4 to 1, I woke up at 12:15 and was surprised to see the Phillies leading 8-4 in the 7th inning. Schwarber was a one man wrecking crew tonight. The Phillies took 5 out of 6 from the Dodgers for the season. Next up is a 4 game series with the red hot Diamondbacks in Arizona. ADC should be happy, the Cubs are on a roll.

Brewers put up 14 runs with six homers and 16 hits and they are finally entering the 8th. Looks like the braves can’t get the crew out of Atlanta soon enough. That should help the Phillies!

Cubs sweep their series today vs. the white sox. DB's taking it to the Phillies tonight in embarrassing fashion. Lowly Reds can't scrape up even one lousy run vs. the lowly brewers, who forgot how to score today. I imagine Bryce jinxed them, talking about how many they had been scoring.

Cards sucked it up as usual. Cubs just 1.5 games back of second place in the division. Imagine if they had a closer or a coach....

Good to see the Brewers win a pitching duel. Hopefully the starting staff can perform well the next 45 games. Brewers are 4th in the MLB in batting average, up about .25 points from last year and currently 5th in the MLB in pitching. With those stats they should be winning a bit more but they so far are performing well above pre-season expectations.

Going to be tough for anyone to move much in the Cubs division for the next three days. 2 of three the cubs over the indians is my optimistic prediction, with the reds winning two over the cards. pirates losing two to the padres, and brewers losing two of three to the dodgers. Time will tell. I don't bet on these things though as I'm often wrong. lol

Cards blew it. I think the Cubs could of won this one and may still if they pull off a miracle, but the ump cost them 4 runs early on, hard to overcome that. Brewers will have to come back from down 4 if they are going to beat the Dodgers.

I really thought the cubs were going to win this one… they found some kinks in the pitching…Cubs have been playing some fantastic baseball lately… I think they have a legitimate chance for a wildcard spot…

How did the umps screw up this time?

Missed a clear strike 3 that would of been the end of the inning with zero runs scored, then the indians went on to score 4 that inning. I'm ready for the robot umps to call balls and strikes. Too many games are won and lost due to umps that can't call balls and strikes. I rarely blame umps for a loss personally but this one stung. Cubs would be back to 500, 5 game win streak, and momentum going into the next two tough games, not to mention pulling to within 1/2 game of second place in the division,,,, but one bad call, could of, and I think did change the whole complexion of the game. Still they did score 8 runs on the team that's 1st in MLB.

There were bad calls by the home plate umpire both ways tonight.

Indians bullpen is overworked and shot. Only 3 guys are pitching well and he uses them almost every night. He gave 2 of those 3 the night off tonight. The closer has now pitched 3 straight games so he hopefully won't pitch him tomorrow night. The starters can't go more than 3 or 4 innings most nights and when one is pitching well he has to over manage and take him out if he gives up a hit or walk past the 5th inning. The last 2 games against Minnesota he pulled the starter way early. Last night the Indians were ahead 5 to 1. The starter had thrown 84 pitches thru 5 2/3 innings. The next batter had made an out on one pitch both times he batted. There was a runner on first and he took him out. He used up the setup guys and with 2 outs and one on in the 8th he pulled our 2nd best reliever (Gaddis) and brought in a guy that has been struggling since coming off the disabled list. He immediately gives up a 2 run homer and Minnesota is right back in the game. Gaddis had only thrown about 15 pitches. Fortunately our closer got out of a bases loaded and nobody out jam in the ninth.

He also gets guys up and has them get loose and then doesn't use them. He will get a different guy up and bring him in the next inning. I think the cheapo Indians took bids on the managerial job this past off season. They hired whoever said they would take the managerial job for the least amount of money!!

A few games back the Phillies lost a game similar. The ump called a ball on what was clearly a strike. The Phillies catcher opened my eyes to something I never thought of. He said he set up for a high and outside pitch in the strike zone, the pitcher missed that badly by throwing low and inside, but it was a strike. The catcher said he knew the ump would call that a ball because of the way he set up. It would have been the third out, but the inning did not end and it cost the Phillies the game. I am not trying to make excuses for the umpires, I just wanted to shed some possible light on the situation. It is unfortunate when that happens.

I don't believe that to be the case in this instance NL, but the robo-ump would eliminate that too. lol

I use MLB.Com to follow the Phillies since I can' t watch them on TV most of the time. They show a figure in the batters box and it has the graph for a strike or a ball which is what the Robo thing would be. If any portion of that ball is in the box it should be a strike. I think it would be very interesting to see the Robo ump, not sure how I would like it, lol. That would take the guess work out of an ump calling balls and strikes I guess. What does amaze me is how often batters swing at pitches not in the strike zone and sometimes they aren't even close. It also amazes me how often a batter takes a strike when it is right down the middle of the zone. My playing days were many years ago and I wasn't even close to being a professional player. Most of the pitchers I faced when I played only had about two pitches, a fast ball and a curve ball so it wasn't as difficult to determine where the pitch would end up.

The slump continues for the Phillies, playing the team tied with the worst record in the National League and they can't even score a run.

They used the closer for the 4th consecutive day. He will probably be on the disabled list soon like several of the other relievers.

I wonder if these umpires have seeing eye dogs to help them get to the stadium every day. Most of them appear to be legally blind!!!

I didn't get to watch today any baseball yet today. Looks like two of my optimistic guesses are blown. Good chance the other two may be too if the Cards and/or brewers blow it again tomorrow. We'll see what the bucks do too I guess.

It was bad both ways again. Even worse than last night.

They need to protect the closer from himself. He says he can pitch so they pitch him. They need to just possibly sacrifice a game here and there and get him some rest. They are off Thursday and supposedly the manager has already said that he won't pitch him tomorrow no matter what. I hope so because that will give him 2 days off.

On the Brewers telecast the umpire is wearing a camera on his mask. Real good idea of just how fast those pitches are coming in. Makes you appreciate big league hitters and umpires.

Well, I guessed one right. The Brewers managed to score one more run than the Dodgers today but looking at the highlights it appears they just got given the game on errors and were out-hit 9-4. Cubs, Bucks and Cards couldn't manage to win one game of the last three. How pathetic.

My bad, I didn't notice the Dodgers have another chance to beat the Brewers, 4 game series. We'll see how it goes.

Brewers managed to salvage a split with the dodgers in a four game series. Had to rally late to take the last game. Nice having Devin Williams back to close out games. Our fill in closer is scheduled to be in town pitching on rehab for the T-Rats tonight. Benefit of having a minor league club so close. They can drive up instead of having to get on the plane. Getting back some good arms back in the pen for the stretch run will be helpful. The 20 year old rookie continues to carry the offense. His huge contract before he ever stepped on a MLB diamond is looking to be the steal of the century.

Yes it is good to have a closer who can shut down the bats! A split with the Dodgers is OK, not great, and they now have a 9 game lead in their division. The "lowly" Brewers just may be better than many think they are. Does not hurt for a young team to fly under the radar and keep the pressure down.

Sometimes when good teams play good teams, the pursuit of perfection causes mistakes to happen. Mookie is a pretty good defender, but the Brewer’s reputation for taking the extra base has him rushing to get the ball in so he pulls his glove up too soon. It happens. Dodgers made a lot of plays in the series so I wouldn’t call them bad defensively.

Brewers are still one of the only teams in the league to not lose four games in a row. Meyers has been the most reliable pitcher. He was in the first round of cuts this spring so that tells you where he started the year.They moved him up to face the dodgers. He continues to get better as his confidence grows. This next series will be tough with the arms that are scheduled to pitch.

The Phillies won a nail biter tonight. The bottom third of the lineup did all the damage (3 runs) and the relief pitchers finally did their job by not giving up any runs. The top 6 hitters went 1 for 20, but a win is a win.

Hey, what the heck, they did bang out 3 hits and only struck out 14 times against a team with a depleted lineup due to numerous injuries. Thomson is so concerned about the health of the club that he keeps giving starting players days off so they don't get injured. He gave Bohn the night off and his replacement left two ground balls get by him that I am sure Bohn would have turned into outs. Bohn has been their most consistent hitter this year. College football happens in 9 days, I hope Penn State doesn't let me down.

Yesterday I read somewhere that the Phillies have the 3 worse record in baseball since some point in July, I do not recall the date in July but I think it was early, like the 7th or somewhere around there, I know the White Sox have a worse record and I think the article said the Mariners. That is hardly playoff material let alone being a serious contender for the World Series.

Braves may not get far in the playoffs or even in the playoffs but with all the major injuries we many times over look how well managed and coached the Braves have been for decades. They have developed a lot of good players through their farm system. When Arcia was with the Brewers and we had a very poor hitting lineup he struggle a lot hitting. He has improved a lot with the Braves and has always been a very good defensive SS.
