You wont go wrong with duke. Just getting started don't buy a bunch of pricey stuff. You wont catch any more critters. As you gain experience you will figure out what you want. We all have different preferences. Its why there are so many options

Bridger #2 modified for canines. Well built, tough trap and won't break the bank.

Minnesota Brand. I have not a lot of experience but it’s a darn good looking trap, well made.

I was comparing a much older trap. Never mind the rust but the cast jaws , larger pan, nite latch, centered d ring and swivels are just great. I’m sure you will find this with other brands but this is my favorite

#2 modified Bridgers for canines. For beaver, 330 Dukes, #3 and #4 Dukes. I like Dukes for beaver because they are cheaper, doesn’t sting as bad if I’m ripped off. They work well for me, 6.5 trap limit it Pa.

Used to have a hodgepodge of different big body grips. Finally wised up and got rid of all except the Belisles. All I buy now.

Mink, 1 1/2 victor square pan, Beaver, 44 Blake & Lamb dbl ls. Fox & raccoon, MB 450. BMI for body grippers. The most under appreciated trap by me by far was the sleepy creek line of of traps. I have some and they slowly grew on me and now that most aren’t available, I’m craving for more. I have no problem paying a little more for American made traps.

I'm another vote for belisle conibears. They are great traps.

I say buy the best equipment you can afford. It is the least of your expenses. When I'm spending $120 on gas a week, plus my time, and working in bad weather add in the fact a coyote might only visit a set one time in several weeks the last thing I'm worried about is saving $50 on a dozen traps. Plus, having confidence in your sets and equipment make you a better trapper.

MB's and Belsiles for me. Worth every penny in my opinion.

Re: Favorite trap brand? - 04/07/24 01:19 PM

I bought 12 dozen mb 550s for coyotes and cats several years ago. They are the best I've ever used. I did get a dozen Duke 550s just to try, I've had no problems with them either. The 550s lock up great, I've caught several hundred coyotes in them and never had a pull out. The only animals I've had pull out are coons because of the off set jaws. And the only bad thing I can say is yes they do hold deer
