For tequila, Herradura reposado. About $50 per bottle.

Re: Best price for high end booze - 04/12/24 06:02 PM

Around here finding the "good stuff" for a reasonable price is a bit of a game. Anything that's limited allocation for stores is usually jacked up in price by stores.

I check every store I go in just in case. My secret spots are very unassuming spots for booze. Got a fifth of Eagle Rare last week for $50 , saw Blantons for $100 the other day, a block over at the foreign owned liquor store those are $100 and $150, IF they have them. EH Taylor and the like are $2-250. Greedy buggers.

My advice would be to have a shopping list and just start watching when you are out and about. Know your price range and be ready to jump if you see them.

Bourbon and Scotch are my sippers. Big EH Taylor fan but its pricey if you can find it around here. Eagle Rare is very tasty. Woodford Double Oaked is very good IMHO and more available and reasonably priced. Scotch, couple bottles of Glenlivet, Macallan or the Balvenie 12 yr olds are affordable and will make any scotch fan happy.

You guys that drink Jameson ever drink Tullamore Dew? Both good stuff in my opinion

Re: Best price for high end booze - 04/12/24 06:39 PM

If I drive into Indiana Kroger has buy 5 at 50% off deals, something like that. 80 proof wild turkey rye, green label I think, is supposed to be up there with some of the best. Jameson Black Barrel is pretty good stuff too. I'm not too snobby and actually really like that bird dog black berry too.

They get a good chunk of my cash whenever I go that way. Love those stores with their own exit ramp. I always get my max bottles per person when crossing state lines.

Very smart NH. More states need to do that.

Whiskey was very cheap in Wyoming when I went there. Jameson was 19.99 a bottle. Here, its pushing 30.

Sad thing about Irish whiskey is we can get it here cheaper than the Irish can get it because they tax the snot out of it there

Another one of these opened ended posts. Seen so many on trapperman. Define what you are looking for or like if you know ? If you don't know then just say so. But 4 pages in don't come up with a list of booze that you already knew before.

There you go, smoothest bourbon Ive had. Around here you have to be on a waiting list for 6 months to get it.

Re: Best price for high end booze - 04/13/24 01:01 AM

Sam's Club is, by far, the least expensive place to buy booze around here. They don't carry everything, but their prices are great if they have what you want. I've been told by a reliable source, the "French" Costco brand of Vodka is comparable to Gray Goose. Wouldn't touch the stuff, myself.

Re: Best price for high end booze - 04/13/24 02:23 AM

I Very seldom drink, but if I do I'm generally a cheap date. For sipping I would choose Admiral Nelson's Spiced Rum first. Real high end, you can get a fifth for seven bucks around here, but it is smooth and tastes good. After that I would go with Tito's vodka and then Goldschlagger (sp?). A little spendier but not the ridiculous prices of some stuff. Kraken rum ain't bad either. I've had some high dollar scotch that was real good, and I've had some high dollar scotch that I wouldn't give to my worst enemy. I don't care for the stuff that tastes like iodine, myself. Not too much of a whiskey or bourbon fan, drank plenty of it as a teenager, it was high octane and got the job done, taste wasn't a priority. Pendleton is pretty dang smooth, but I don't really care for the flavor. I have a bottle of Weller's reserve (I think 12 year?) at the house that a hunter gave me several years ago. still have probably half a bottle left, pretty good flavor for a bourbon, but kinda rough in my opinion, I have to cut it with water some to enjoy sipping it.

Here on the base they carry a very poor selection of somethings. The prices are better down town too. The entire display is about twelve foot long and three or four shelves. That area is for all the wine, whiskey, vodka, gin and a few others thrown in. I have never seen anything I thought was a deal. If you think Jim Beam and Black Velvet are high end, you would be set.

Of all places, Caseys gas station had a display of that when I went to pick up a couple pizzas last weekend. It didnt have a price, but I was confused. Isnt Chris Stapleton sober? And he promotes whiskey?

Does higher price mean better stuff?

Will the cheap stuff work just as well for cleaning wounds?

My guess is probably better. Alcohol kills germs. The stuff that adds flavor ain't alcohol

now that's the attitude
just watch he may have consumed all the good stuff and poured the cheap stuff in expensive bottles

Take notes if there are pencil lines on the label and the fluid level is above those = dilution has happened

Scotch is definitely a taste you acquire. Some never do. I've got buddies who are huge bourbon guys and can't stand scotch.

Need to remember there are a pile of different flavor "profiles" in scotchs, all depends on where its made. Not to sound like a fancy Nancy but some are fruity and crisp an others taste like licking a stovepipe used to burn an outhouse.
restaurant or bar and try a few. Macallan 12 or Glenlivit 12 are real clean tasting and easy to sip. If you can enjoy bourbon neat, you can sip those.
