Season 11 was shot in the delta. Should be an interesting one.

A guy can eat good with just snare wire and a fish net. Couple of them didn’t look dressed very good for the weather. I’m looking forward to seeing how they all make out in my neck of the woods. There’s a lot to eat in the delta so I’m guessing at least a couple contestants go pretty far. I’ll be watching for sure

Thanks for posting Ryan. My money is on Wm Larkham Jr. He from this area. This area very similar to your area re. the country, conditions and wildlife. Wm is a really good country guy who should have near local knowledge advantage. Grew up at that stuff all the time with mostly same conditions, and wildlife, as your area. Handy guy too at DIY stuff. Gill net and small game (time best spent at rabbits but possibly some white partridge and grouse too) snare wire will serve him well.

Thank you Ryan for the heads up on the show ! Some day I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Bobby one a survival show and hear that he rocked it out of the park ! Since he's got a darn good teacher to show him how it's done !

Did not see a lot of promotions on this upcoming show it just came up on our recorder that was kind of strange. We plan on watching its a interesting show for the most part.

I watch Williams YouTube channel and will be watching the program to see how he makes out.

I think those that didn't bring an axe are gonna be sad.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 04:59 PM

I haven't watched Alone for a couple years. From what I remember, it basically turns into a contest to see who can starve the longest. Is that still the case?

I watched a little on netflix then found out each person is assigned a small area they cant leave. I think luck on best area has more to do with who wins than anything else

Yeah that's really what it comes down to, although skill counts for a lot. If you don't have enough food available in your area, nothing is going to save you. The person who gets big game has it made.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 05:32 PM

I think I would ditch the bow, and opt for a plastic tarp. Also forgo the hook and line fishing and take the gill net. First guy forgot fire starter, unless I missed it.
I'm going with the woman with the gill net.
If anyone has snare wire that is sturdy enough for beaver should do well if they have any beaver around them.

Already programmed.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 05:45 PM

What's the time frame that they will be in the bush?

My ten item list;
Fire starter
Tarp
Sleeping bag
Para cord
Ax
Saw
Snare wire
Gill net
Cook pot
Multi tool

If they don't allow a tarp, I would swap that out for either salt or coffee.

They actually pick individuals that will FAIL. I think New House 114 has been turned down 2 times. Because he would win hands down.
You have to go through rigours physical and mental testing.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 06:45 PM

If you live past 60 you are nuts to start with. Mental testing for someone on T-man----will never make it then either.......jk

The ones that win or last the longest overall, have the strongest minds/willpower.
Has little to do with anything else.
The ones that give up early are all weak willed.

Not necessarily weak willed, but weaker of will than the other 9 contestants.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 08:22 PM

The area the show was filmed in has no shortage of fish and game. Beaver and fish would be the most reliable sources of food. lots of Moose, grizzly, black bears and wolves in the area too. Muskrats, frogs, squirrels, grouse, ptarmigan and all fur bearers too.
Moose wouldve been responsive to calls and waterfowl were still around at the start of filming as well.

That might've been the case in the earlier seasons but the contestants seem more competent the past couple seasons. William Larkham Jr can for sure hold up against anyone. Real deal outdoorsman and the only guy I seen wearing a parka when getting dropped off . I've been following him on youtube for 15+ years.
I was interviewed for life below zero Canada but I said i wont take part if there's any added drama. I didn't get a call back after saying that.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 09:17 PM

You can build a wigwam with a smoke vent hole like back in the day. Tarp should not be necessary. If Wm can get the food with the rabbit snares and gill net (dry/smoke fish before freeze up) and built an old style wigwam then we see. He has an axe for fire wood and construction of wigwam* + he knows how to make fire with that sparker he has. And a person, again like back in the day, would have to eat just about every part of the animal. No fillets lol. They say a lot of contestants pack on the lbs before they do this too.

Above just speculating of course but how to do all this has already been invented but fallen out of use.

Gonna watch tonight and gonna be real interesting how they all tackle it.

Most of their food will be boiled so the nutrition will be all in the broth. Id eat frozen fish and meat once the temps drop too. more energy that way

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 09:29 PM

The last season I watched, because I will not pay for TV and get them a few years old, two guys had to leave early sick from eating beaver fat or what was contaminated on their hands. The guy that killed a deer with his bow one year was the real deal. The guy who killed a moose said he was starving from eating lean meat, wolverine got his fat stored up. I love the show, you see the later seasons people had sponsors for gear I think.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/13/24 09:45 PM

Yup nothing wrong with raw fish. Eat it lots here. Well off ppl call it sushi lol. And raw moose and caribou meat, fat and marrow too and the like but not sure Wm can get those.

And good on you Ryan for passing up the BS on Life Below Zero. That over dram stuff pathetic.

First episode and one guy is already done.

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/14/24 11:08 AM

Yikes sat down at 10 local last night and got the first hour expecting continued next wk. Nope goes on for 5 hrs til 3 AM. So I tapped out at 11. Tapped out quicker than that first guy Ryan says tapped out lol.

Gonna have to find out what I missed. Did see Wm's net pay off right away with the jackfish (pike) and then he lost it. Kinda embarrassing for a big time commercial fisherman frown

I watch very little TV but did see this thread and watched most of it. I liked what I watched mostly for the beautiful country they are in. I will watch it again if I know it is on. Does anyone know when it comes on again and is it a weekly show etc?

Re: Alone season 11 arctic circle - 06/14/24 12:26 PM

My dad asked me if I watched it knowing I don't watch much TV. Told him no and he tells me about things in some shows. I got a kick out of him saying my step mom said I should and could do that. I know I am not in that kind of shape or have the knowledge to be successful. She has no idea what it would truly take to survive,. I have a limited understanding and a honest view of my skills and abilities and lack of them.

Is there a streaming service or is it on u tube? Now I would love to see Ryan on one of these shows. I believe he would win and it was not all staged stuff.

That could have been the end of him when he pulled that out if it hit the artery a bad spot t get a hole in a guy. Probably would have been fatal if he hit the artery anyway who knows.

I don’t have cable, so I don’t know how to follow it now as far as recent episodes. I wouldn’t even know what streaming service would have it

Been turned down about 11 times now. I’m starting to hope my age (66) might be an advantage in future seasons.

You can watch them online somehow on the Alone section of the History channel website. I'm not sure if it is only the previous night's episode or if you have to join something to watch, but you can figure it out here...

Yep; Cubby is gone. Very scary accident with the arrow. He was at day 3, I believe, and was just making his first survey of his kingdom when it happened. After 3 days, he didn't even have the structure up to hang his tarp on. Glad I can watch it from here instead of doing it.
