I have lots of pictures of the doe. Even won a new camera from cuddeback from pictures of her in the past. This is the first year that she has had a white fawn. Here is another picture taken that same time.
Here is a little buck we call spot. Had a pretty bad injury that appears to finally be healing up.
The fawns have really started to be more visible and showing up on camera in the last week and half.
Nothing too special yet. Hoping one of the two bucks turns into something. Curious how old folks think that coyote is? This years pup? Looks to small to be last years but had to be born about mid February or beginning of March to be this years.
Diggerman, those blue marks are the property boundary between our land and county forest. We had a survery done last winter after a dispute with the county over a few trees we cut on county land. We did a survey and it turns out one of our lines was actually supposed to be 90' further out into county land, so they had been logging 90' of our land the full length of a 40 for decades. They didn't seem too worried about a few trees after that.

Thanks, I see marks like a blue line, 2 blue hashmarks and some orange I believe. I thought the blue ones were boundry, there were some around our fourty but didnt really follow the line, I thought.
Generally 5.5+ year olds before rut are 200+. After the rut they could be as low as 150. I’m hoping that one deer I posted in the field is the buck I passed from last year. I was really worried he had run himself down too much. He looked rough after the rut. I keep peanuts or peanuts/corn out year round. I’m hoping those peanuts act as a protein supplement.
I would have thought that they would have been on the lighter side that far South. Our SE VA deer run a little bit smaller. You hear folks talk about +175 lb bucks around here until you see scale weights. Not that there aren't any... just ain't overly common.
WannaBe is in a unique area in Georgia that was restocked with deer in the 50s and 60s mostly from Wisconsin. Most other areas in the southern half of Georgia don't have as many mature bucks that will reach 200+.
Dang Swamp, making me jealous! Not wanting hogs, but now that I’m equipped to handle them, I’m missing them. I don’t miss the destruction We did some clear cutting of timber that I never could walk through, it was THICK, when we had a dry spell last Fall. When they removed all that, it was the main area the pigs hung out. It’s great for the property, but sucks for the hog dogging and hunting. Our coon hunter that comes to run dogs ain’t been back either, lol. It knocked out a lot of predators.

I need to get back up to Turner County......and try out the .300AAC.
Looks like she had a normal fawn and I’m guessing that’s her yearling still with her. Based on the other comments I’m guessing y’all have a population of them and they’re off limits to hunting?
That’s her white fawn from this year. I think she is 8 now and is always the first to fawn every year. If I had to guess, that brown fawn is likely her daughter’s fawn.
There was a brown doe with a white fawn at the camera last night. Guessing they both just have their fawns on that ditchbank with all the water we have had recently.
This part of county only has a couple white deer, but we have lots of it in genetics. We get a white buck to move in and our numbers will explode. Two miles away, it is not uncommon to see 8-12 white deer in the field and maybe 1-2 brown ones. They are protected. That said, if we get a white buck to move in, there is strong incentive to make sure it disappears.
That’s a huge fawn if that’s this years. She must have given birth in February, lol. That’s a yearling size here. That brown deer is definitely this years fawn. Now there may be a miscommunication here too. I consider a deer born this year a fawn all year. Next Spring it will be a yearling. The following year it’s a 2.5 year old by the time hunting season rolls around. Regardless that’s pretty cool. I’ve only seen one in the wild while trapping another property. Unfortunately it ended up becoming road kill. We do have an occasional piebald and have a little buck that I saw as a fawn and is now a 2yr old. Hoping he lives to get to 5.5 just to see what he may become.
That fawn was likely born last month. If you look at the first page of this thread, I posted a few other pictures. Give a better idea on its size. It’s big, but not crazy big. Single fawns tend to grow really fast and this year was extremely helpful with early green up and lots of water.
It’s not uncommon for our single doe fawns to reach the 60 lb threshold and be breed before they are a year old. This year we will likely see that happen a little more.
I like those pictures of bucks. Nothing that developed here on camera, but I also had bucks carrying until April this year. The big ones usually push out into the ag fields to get away from the others as well.
Wasn't aware of them being over there. They are a big problem here. They are right across the river from me. So far haven't seen any on the east side yet. Am hoping not. Being protected. It doesn't take long for those bucks to become dominate, With all the complaining about them. It seems to fall on deaf ears. Doubt we will see ever see a season.
Big problem here too. They were even limited some in dispersal by 2 major highways (10/45)and the wolf river. They made it across both now. Would be even worse but guys have started taking matters into their own hands. They have made it to Outagamie county and are closing in on Waupaca. They are as far east as Neenah and south to Oshkosh.
My trail cam in my backyard died after four years use. Here is couple of the last pics from January this year. We have a small acreage and I dump 50# of corn in a pile in the back corner and keep the pile full throughout the year. Quail, pheasants, deer, fox, turkey, geese, coon, possum, coyote, you name it I’ve got a pic of it on my cam. We get lots of visitors in our backyard at the corn pile. Way more fun than a small scale bird feeder.
Going to replace my camera this year and would like your input on best model.
Last years shed measured 72”. If he gets lucky this year we’ll see how much he’s grown or lost, lol. Those pics put him near where he “should” be hanging out come Sept. There’s a big ragweed field he practically lives in that makes his direction of travel so unpredictable. Last year my son got lucky and found his most consistent trail and got to eyeball him in person and that’s when he decided to give him one more year. It’s always a gamble letting one walk. Someone else could shoot him, he could get hit by a vehicle, or even suffer some sort of injury. But when you catch them on camera a few months before season it gets you excited and planning stand sites!
Problem existed b4 we started hunting that property 3.5 years ago (Turner County). It continues. We've killed only 21 hogs in that time. I could've killed 100+ alone .......but I was either turkey hunting or after a mature buck.....so no unnecessary shooting.
Most of the bears are denned up when most of the trapping occurs. This was an issue with our September and October wolf trapping season, but I used no bait or food lures. Only lures I used early season were gland lures and pee post/scat sets and blind sets. That alleviated the problem for me, I know a couple guys who just figure turning bears out of traps is the price of doing business but I prefer to avoid them. With small traps for smaller animals if the are anchored solid they will generally just pull out, but any trap that will reliably hold a wolf will hold a bear.

Gotcha, didn’t know if they were as curious as deer or not. I’m with you, that’s one problem I’d prefer not to have to deal with!!
My feed areas are natural feed areas. Both oaks and Beauty Berries. I’d put up cameras to see what was using the areas and then decided it was worth starting to supplement feed the spots. My hog spot was picked just because of location and we’ve seen hogs travel through there. It’s a lower area which gives me a higher vantage point for sniping. Plus my spots in the drains are a lot cooler than the open pines, lol!!
And yes, feed peanuts about all year. I will throw corn out every now and then, but mainly when hogs show up. I figure the protein in the peanuts would be a good supplement for the bucks and does alike. Already getting pics of fawns feeding. Fast fit fawns outrun predators, lol.
I left this camera set over the winter aimed at our sauna building. This is just a sample of what came by. Lots of bears and fox. I particularly like the flock of six ptarmigan. I think there might be a couple of wolves also.
Here’s one for y’all. They saw this buck last year and figured maybe an injury so they passed him up. They found a shed of the deformation and thought no way he’d survive based on the amount of bone that was lost.
But, apparently it’s genetics because he survived.
WB, That was caused by an abcess in the antler pedicel and surrounding skull area.....sometimes due to excessive antler rubbing characteristics and then bacteria infecting the buck's skint up pedicel area.
It's not genetics.
It will get progressively worse each time he sheds. It will be that buck's doom.
Probably not…we’ll pattern him and set up a ladder stand for a kid to shoot him. Or anyone that hasn’t shot a buck yet. May save him for CJ, but he’s already shot a couple bucks. Contrary to some beliefs that we’re “raising deer” for antlers, kids pretty much have free rein, anything from spots to 200” is fair game when it comes to kids.
Victor…am I seeing that first pic correctly? That’s a bear walking towards the camera right? If so, its head looks as big as a small car!! Good Lawd that thing is huge!!
Not alot of cool ones for me yet. I use several of my cellular transmission cameras to keep an eye on water tanks on cattle pastures 30 miles away. These little dudes visit too often. kinda funny.
I thought that was a Caribou. I always wish for a Caribou picture on trail camera. I never get one though. My fault For not putting cameras where the caribou are when they are out there.

Heck my initial look I thought cool, a caribou!! Then I got studying the antlers and thought WOW that’s gonna be a huge elk!! Great pics man! I like the wolf as well!!
We’re still bewildered how it survived. Guess that’s some tough seed. Prior to planting we had rain. Planted and none for 3-4 weeks…only moisture it got was from the dew. We thought for sure it was a dead field.
I had a lot more wolf pics from this pack, as it’s grown. I will try trapping them this Winter. Had pics of the female this Spring with big nipples. So there’s pups this year and this pack is putting a lot of pressure on the deer in this area.
This doe was hit by a car while carrying a fawn. Looks like she made it but no sign of the fawn Pictures are from my cell taking the picture of computer screen
Cool but not cool pic. I mean that’s a one in a million shot, but it would even be nicer if the fawn made it. If the dates are right I’m guessing that was real early and the way she looks I bet she didn’t make it either.
Top picture is the same doe taken last week She was in rough shape for a while and thought she died giving birth. Just showed up again. No fawns following her.
We have no recollection of this deer. I went back through some of last years pics and my son did also and were drawing a blank. Be interesting to see if he sticks around.
I've yet to get a pic of a big velvet buck this summer. Only have 2 cameras out 100 miles north of my residence on the 1000 acre tract.
But, I'm about to set up a camera survey on my 400 acre property here in my home county. Beginning in August, will set up 8 cameras (1 camera/50 acres) on evenly located pre-baited sites. Run em for 14 days. Then, total up the info for bucks per doe, fawn recruitment, deer/sq mile, deer/acre, age structure, number of mature bucks, etc.
Haven't ran a complete survey on this property in over two decades, so looking forward to seeing results. This property was almost completely logged in the past 4 years (pine and hardwoods). Only 85 acres out of 400 that was too wet for a skidder to stand up on that wasn't logged. Neighbors have logged some of their's in past few years also. Deer movement patterns have been greatly disrupted, but as more regrowth is occurring, deer are responding well.
Half of this tract is river bottomland. Half is upland sand ridge. Plantation pines planted 3 years ago on half of property. Other half is site prepped and will be planted in pine this winter.
Should have some good pics of better bucks soon. I saw 7 bucks together a couple weeks ago on this tract...3 of em were very nice.
Yeah, last years clear cut is greening up very nice. Our pines 2-3yrs have enough cover for good bedding and even hiding deer. We’ll get that clear cut cleaned up and planted next year I believe. Have they planted y’all’s yet? Or are they going to? Our loggers left some areas that had creek drainages and a few lone hardwoods standing that would be a rifle hunters dream out of a climber or even a ladder stand. We’ll be doing nothing but archery hunting bucks, but will probably break out the rifles to thin does. I would’ve swore we wouldn’t have seen many fawns this year with all the does we took last year, but those little jokers are running around everywhere. I went and got a camera this evening to move to a different property that had some pigs show up, and I jumped a fawn. That joker ran about 100 yards one direction, then ran straight back and past me for 100 yards then ran back towards me about 50yds and blew at me!! If you’ve never had a fawn blow at you, it’s almost comical. He just watched me walk on down the trail and then watched me get my camera and walk back past him. I hope it’s a little buck cause it ain’t gonna last long acting like that if it’s a doe!!
Best buck I've gotten a pic of so far this year. I'll keep a bachelor group around, but seem to pick up my best deer in September (not complaining). I can generally start to gameplan around that time.
Nice buck, he gonna get to 10 by the time he’s done growing!
Don’t know if you’re using a computer or phone, but with the phone after it downloads, you can move inside that little box to the right and you can rotate that way. Left/Delete/Right.
Yeah, that’s after he rebaited it. He found some sign and put up a camera and some corn. The pigs found it last night so he rebaited to see if they come on back. May be shooting tomorrow night. And I thought that was a fawn, lol.
Had a landowner send me this saying my services were needed, lol.
I went and stuck up a camera and some sweet corn on the cob husks and cobs (wife made creamed corn today) and gonna see if I can get some pics. Would really be nice if they’d come in a little earlier so I could be on time for work!!
We’ll see, lol. Had an opportunity last year but thought he was too young. They don’t get that old by being stupid. He’s definitely 5.5yrs old this year, so I suspect he’s not gonna be on a daylight schedule too long after he sheds. Got a pile of does and young bucks that come through before he shows. Right now he’s stopping by on his way to the millet field and then the peanut field beyond that. We’ll burn the millet and have 2 dove hunts before I can hunt him and his pattern will change. I’ll find his trail to that spot and set up a lock-on or climber.
Is this a serious question? If so, yes sir. Planted peanuts get hit hard, but they’re eating the “green” plant. Once harvested they’ll eat the peanuts off the ground. My son has access to peanuts year round and brings me bags and in some cases he’ll back his truck up and they’ll load the bed. I bought sealable 55gal drums to store them. Peanuts are pure protein for deer. With that said, at my son’s plantation they will not touch them, lol. Mine flock to them. I have videos of deer, hogs, coyotes, coons, and possums all eating peanuts. I even have deer and coyotes eating together and possums and coyotes eating together, lol.
Yeah, I figure it is. Those pictures are only 400 yards apart as the crow flies. We have been mostly watching the bears this summer, so imagine my surprise when I saw that pop up on the camera!
I've gotta make a trip upstate soon to move these 2 cell cams. Hogs, does amd fawns, small bucks, and a few turks ain't what I'd like to see this time of year.....
The rest of the sounder from July 4 showed up early this morning. I’ll add some food and set the alarm for 0530 in the morning to see if they’re there and I can make a stalk on them.
His right side measured 72” last year. My son’s been watching him for 3 years now. He was a 130ish 2 year old and he knew he’d be one to keep an eye on. He saw him last year and text from the stand he was 23 yards but needed another year. He pulled his stand and kept cams up monitoring him. We knew he made it through the season and found him early this year. We still think he’s young, but it’ll be a game time decision for him to make if he has him in front of him again.
Does anyone have pics of their tree stands and hunting set ups, etc?
Here’s a pic of my son in a lock on. It’s not very high but situated between 3 trees and I’ve had deer walk directly beside it. For some reason they pay absolutely not attention to it. He’d just shot his first archery deer in this pic and was shaking too bad to climb down, lol. Lock on, 3 or 4 sets of steps, a lifeline, and a strap on the tree above the lock on for your harness. 12ft maybe, lol.
Here’s a ladder stand they pay no attention to. It’s against a tree wide enough to break my outline. And it’s a great coon spot, caught 9 coons here. Look behind the coon.
It’s a cheap lock on from Walmart. My son had all our good ones put out at his property. Think I was a Waddel special Walmart had for $89 with sticks included. All I did is reenforce the straps. We do that every year. There were 3 trees growing together so the steps are on one trunk and the platform is on another. The lifeline is on the trunk with the steps and the other strap is on the trunk with the lockon itself. We step on the lockon, connect caribeaner to harness and disconnect lifeline. Like I said, it’s not but maybe 12ft or so but we took 7 does from that stand last year. It’s in a drain with oaks that is just a natural travel route. I’ve shot a deer with my bow, called my son to come get in the stand while I was getting my deer out, and he shot another before I ever got back with the truck, lol.
You need to go kill those hogs and you’ll start seeing deer! I beginning to think your just trying to tempt someone from a surrounding county to sneak in and kill them so you can prosecute them, lol!!!

I'm starting to think I have a neighbor that's releasing them. That is another group that looks like they've been on a slab most of their life.
If I ever get anything like that on camera down here and I’m getting a life size pic made of it!! Everything above the mantle will be taken down and that pic would go right there…28 years of marriage be danged!!
Yeah, glad to see them. That particular drain leads straight to the dove fields and takes a turn right where the camera is heading West. My Lock-on is at the far West end. Believe it or not, that canera goes off all day long, but at night the pics slow way down. Just a natural travel route, especially during the heat of Summer and when acorns are falling.
Heck no, lol. When I first decided to put up a camera because of the oaks it was all leaves. 1.5yrs of feed in that spot does it…plus hogs found it several times over the years as well and that keeps things cleared out. My other spot in the very back of the property is the same way.
When I had the brilliant idea of using posthole diggers to bury bait in the back, lol. This spot just since last August has had 30+ pigs killed off it.
The killing started 6 days after that pic was taken, lol. I didn’t have driving privileges yet, lol. I spent a while closer to quail season getting that area filled back in. There’s a feed trail up near that tower stand. I sneak in on it and shoot down. We were hunting that course with the owner and his buds last year and happened to get on a covey right under a big oak just out of view to the East (left) of the camera and one of his guests made a comment about all the .308 bullet casings. I was thinking, Oh heck, this ain’t gonna be good. The manager knows why they’re there, I didn’t know the owner did. The owner laughed and said talk to Mark about that and get him to show you the videos too! Come to find out the manager sends them to him I guess to show how I earn my money, lol.
Ok, you got to name names for us Southerners…is that a Fisher or a Martin in the first pic. I’ve seen y’all post dead ones side by side and I know the Martin is smaller I think, but I don’t have a comparison in that pic, lol.
I got to do that a little back in late 90s-early 2000s while employed as a GW. Over a 2 or 3 year period, I captured 9 bears......one in a culvert trap and 8 in Aldrich foot snares. They are a very easy critter to catch in a foot snare on a bear trail.
Well dang Swamp, you need to share some stories or pics! Didn’t realize that was an actual thing. So what if you catch a sow with cubs? How in the world do you release??

The bears I trapped were bee yard raiders and I trapped them as an agent of DNR to assist game management in the area.
Once I caught one, I had to call game management tech to come jab em. Then, we weighed em, pulled a upper premolar, and ear tagged em. Then, woke em back up and released.
We operated with a policy agreement with beekeepers down here that a bear that depredated a bee yard twice was lethally removed. I only killed one of those 9. He was a fine specimen of a south Ga bear too. I caught him twice...3 months apart. Bear#269...he and I have a story together.
4 or 5 others I caught were confirmed dead within a few years, too. One road-killed that I just happened to find....still alive but badly injured. 3 or 4 were legally taken during our bear season...still wearing my ear tag. One travelled more that 50 miles from where I caught her in Echols County in January and was killed by a hunter in October in Ware County. Others were never seen/heard from again. All but a couple, I released at capture site as being caught and handled helped served as an aversion to bee larvae and honey found in a wooden box inside an electric fence.
I've got some good pics...just will have to hunt them all up and take a pic of them as this was before I had a digital camera.....all are 35mm prints.
For legal bear trapping...I think Maine is the only state that's allowed today.
I also caught a 50 to 60 lb cub in a Victor 1.75 coilspring while trapping coyotes. I was off work and running a long trapline near Fargo, Ga when this happened.
Wife videoed this release and it was very "exciting" for me. Big momma bear and the other cub was there with us the entire time.
All those are the cheaper sd card pull cameras. They come in handy and work well. They'll all go on buck scrapes by early October thru December.
Have 3 more that are cell cameras. Those are super for real time info without making any intrusions. Just have to get them in the right spot to begin with.
Dang Swamp, been holding out on us! Got some good looking bucks there!!
Just got all those SD card cameras in place day b4 yesterday. Needed to make sure all were working....I was sorta surprised by the number of bucks in just 2 days. Looks to be 3 or 4 that are mature in those.
Yeah, they bought him a Pig Brig so he’s learning, lol. Second sounder he’s caught. If he find rooting he’ll bait that spot up and get them coming in regular. He’ll then add the T-post and let them get used to that. Then after 4 days straight he’ll add the netting raised up and wait until they hit that for 5 days straight, then lower the net where it’ll scrub their backs for 3 days straight, then drop it and generally will catch them.
He’s put up the T-post before and hogs never showed up again after 4 weeks, lol. Some pigs can be caught and some can’t.
The white fawn hasn’t shown back up on camera since a couple dogs came through. The white does has come through numerous times but only with a brown fawn.
We did have enough rain that I was getting lots of pictures of my feathered friend.
Have lots of nice young bucks, but nothing big. Looks like I might need to knock down some vegetation pretty soon.
Haha…I buy the 48AA packs from Sam’s. I keep mine set for 5 min intervals over feed during the Spring/Summer. On cams that are on trails I’ll keep to 0 seconds. On hog cams I’ll switch them to 60min during the day and set them to 5 min and hour before dark. If pigs show up I’ll drop it to 30sec for sneaking purposes. My batteries normally last a couple of months or so this time of year.
My only issue with Lithium is they’ll show 100% until they die, lol. At least on cell cams. And all my cameras are Spartan cell cameras When I was running regular trail cams regular AA’s would last almost a year.
Regular Energizer AAs is what I use in all cameras except my Spartan cell cam.
I use a rechargeable 6volt sealed battery in a Harbor Freight 30cal ammo box for the Spartan. Use a bungee cord and hang the battery box on back of tree. About once per year charge is all that's needed for 10s of thousands of pics.
Just got a camera out this week. Decent 8. Top pic is best pic I've got of this buck so far. He looks like hes hot good mass, forked g2 on right side and maybe some other nontypical stuff.
Haven't hunted this spot for a few years so no real history with any of these bucks
Just Rayovacs or Kirkland AAs bought in the bulk pack, depending on what store I'm at when I need them. Checked a couple cameras today, one had a total of four pictures on it, first one when a bear broke it off the tree, two while it was laying on the ground and one when I picked it up. Next camera was on a strap rather than a screw in mount. The day after I put it up a cow elk walked up to it and licked it and nosed it a quarter of the way around the tree so it was not pointed at the trail, a couple days later it came back and shoved it the rest of the way around so it was pointed at a wall of brush five feet away. So in three weeks I had pictures of a couple elk, a few deer and a camp robber that landed about a foot in front of it.
Yes sir, hope you get some more pics of that buck. Looks like he has some character!
Me too. He's peaked my intrest. I thinking I will. It's in a pretty good spot until the crops come out. Just a mile and a half from home. I'll keep u posted.
I've got a pile of rechargeables (mainly eneloops) that I thought would be great and a money saver. But it didnt work out that way. They seem to maintain enough power to run the camera at times---particularly in picture mode vs video or in day time. They tricked me into thinking everything was ok until I realized they didnt have the power to turn on the IR at night and also run video. Once I went to regular AAs the problem went away.
Set this camera on a wolf pee post. As you can tell other predators mark it also. Ignore the time and dates, that camera is too much of a pain to set them and I don't bother.
This buck (1st three pics) is 6.5 years old this fall(even though he looks younger). He had the exact same rack shape when he was 3.5....just less mass and tine length. I named him Pinchers. The following year (his 4th fall) the entire 200 acre river bottom where he spent most of his time was clearcut...pine and hardwood. He left. Don't know where he went for a year, but he showed back up last fall with exact same rack configuration, but had lost his left eye. He had also moved out of the bottoms to the sand ridge and he is still there now. His bases and beams are thicker than last year.
And finally! Some poults on one of my properties. There were 3 adult hens and 8 crow- sized poults...actually saw them in a logging road this morning, too.
Swee pics Swamp!! I really wish Pinchers didn’t have those little crab claws! A big mature 6 is a deer I’m wanting. A buddy of mine killed one several years ago that was 128” as a 6, lol. Deer stayed that way for forever and just kept adding length and mass. It was a beautiful buck that went over 200#. I’ll try and find a pic of it.
Ole Pinchers still got character! And liking that white on the young buck!!

That buck in the pic you posted is a fine specimen!
My last bowhunt in north Missouri (2022), I had the biggest 6pt I've ever seen 30 yds away for over 15 minutes...broadside. He raked in a scrape and rubbed a thigh-sized tree. This buck was absolutely stunning. Incredible main beam length and crab claws (g2s) that were at least a foot long. His brow tines (g1s) were about 8" too. Looked like he weighed well over 200lbs.
This was on the 1st day of hunt at 4pm and I had already seen several very good bucks (a couple better than the 6pt)....just outta bow range. I struggled with whether to arrow him and talked myself out of it and hung the Mathews back on the hanger and sat back down. He walked on down the trail and out of sight. I immediately regretted the decision, but.....
The next afternoon (same tree) this buck pictured came thru following a doe...15 yd shot. I had caught a glimpse of him earlier about 75 yds out. He made passing that trophy 6pt easier to swallow. I rough scored this one at 140". I'm not sure that 6pt would've made 140" but he likely would've been close.
Later that evening, my son was on a picked soybean field edge about 500 yds from me and texted me that the big 6 was out in the field chasing other bucks out of the field. He never had a close enough shot even though he had his Ravin X-bow. His description of the 6pt when I texted him back about the buck's size was OMG!!! But, a few minutes later he arrowed this nice 10pt...so we've almost forgot about that huge 6pt.
Not sure if these guys will be around come archery season. The peanut farmer north of us got a depredation permit and I saw 5 or 6 laying in his field this morning. We shoot the brakes off them but we have more deer than 2 processors could handle in a single season. We shut one down last year, lol.

Sux on the neighbor having a crop damage permit. If they do it right/legal.....they'll just orphan fawns....and not kill any bucks....especially this late in summer as antlers are visible..so no excuses for violating permit.
My farmer neighbor to the north of the lease that the above pics came from is installing a high fence around the field. Says it gonna cost $50 thousand to do that field and another further north.
Gonna be interesting to see what this does to the deer movement patterns on that 400 acre lease.
MY CELLULAR TRAIL CAMERAS ARE ALL DOWN. SO ILL POST SOME OLDER PICS FROM A COUPLE WINTERS AGO. hOPE YOU GUYS DONT MIND. NEW STUFF ONCE i GET THE CAMERAS GOING.

Do you really name them? Like real names or just characteristics names? I’m gonna find one to name. Only issue is I’d hate to shoot one named and text someone and say, “Hey, I just shot Bob!” We have given names like, Wide 8, Tall 8, Split G2, Piebald, and that deer with the funky rack. I would really love to find one that earned the name, The Big 6!! We did have a doe named “Granny” she was about 10ish and had a pure grey face…easy to recognize from 100yds away.
As far as public land is concerned, I don’t hunt it for deer. Grew up doing it though. Used to have some awesome bow spots. 50/50 chance on a deer or hog about every sit. Back then brown it’s down baby!! Or legal and it’s down!! Never killed anything huge, respectable maybe, but not Savell caliber. And back then even those swamp pigs tasted pretty decent.
Got into a few leases and still never killed anything huge, respectable but not huge.
It wasn’t until my some started dating his future wife and hunting where I now hunt that I saw pics from a trail camera and was like holy crap there’s shooters everywhere!! Don’t know when my son passed me on “management” but he was quick to inform me those aren’t shooters, lol.
Well, not gonna lie, when I got the invite I thought I’d hit it big! It took me a year or two out there passing deer bigger than I’d ever killed in my life and watching deer to realize what a big deer was and if we let them go, they would grow. The good news was if you still have “blood lust” running through your veins, does abound like fleas. Shoot your hearts content, lol.
My son and I have both killed what we consider trophy deer or our personal best ever deer. So now, we want to either top that or shoot an old buck. I’m at the advantage because while we both have one with the rifle, I don’t have one with a bow yet. His personal best archery buck scored 154” so now he’s wanting one bigger. I’m wanting 150ish. Just want a P&Y. Net would be nice, but gross is fine too. Where we hunt we can be somewhat selective. Does it always work out? Nope, but it works out more often than it doesn’t.
So said all that to say this, We’re hunting premium fairly large acreage properties that can and does grow big deer. They are just “personally managed” to get pics like I get. Our county is sorta known for big bodies and pretty decent antlers. And yes, I spend probably 300+ days a year out there and could walk you to a covey of quail or show you a particular deer or turkey from a distance. Now getting within archery or shotgun range of that deer or turkey is an entirely different matter, lol. They’re all still wild animals and have made me lose sleep and time chasing them. So my pics do not represent public land or lease land really, it’s just a private managed low hunting pressure property and I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to hunt it, work it, trap it, and just have access to it.
…. Not a trail cam pic as I don’t own one …but Bud killed this great big ol sow behind the house a few years ago…. She must have been on a corn feeder for awhile as the fat was pure clean white and meat was mild tasting. I only eat the ones with thick white fat
Swamp I got one showing on camera for the last couple of days, but he’ll stay for one pic and gone. I thought just a boar looking for a sow after the first day and only one pic. But he’s consistent in coming through, just not staying. Ain’t ever seen a pig that’ll pass up a free all you can eat meal. May try calling him this evening or tomorrow morning.

I've got pics of this one for about 3 weeks now...every few days, but today's pic was the best pic of him.
It’s a toss up between the bow and the thermal. It is pretty fun sneaking in a slinging an arrow through one or even setting up in the tree waiting on one you know will show. For ugly critters, they have some keen instincts for staying alive. I also believe if night hunting and thermals weren’t allowed, then we’d be in a big mess!!

Here s one with a name. About ten years ago, my son’s buddy got a new bow for Christmas and was looking for something to shoot. I had a sow and three young pigs on a corn feeder and told him where to go. He killed the sow and the three young pigs just kept coming back to the feeder. Two little black boars and a red female. My wife named them Larry, Moe, and Roberta. About six months later, Larry became a casualty of another arrow. About a year later, Roberta just disappeared. But old Moe kept coming back. He got where he would let me pet him and scratch his head while he fed at the feeder. He was truly a judas pig - he would bring other hogs with him, and when I would walk up to him and he didnt run, the other hogs didn't know what to do. I shot dozens of other hogs with my bow while I was standing right beside Moe, feeding under the feeder. He hung around for about 2 1/2 years. We would paint him with orange spray paint during hunting season. Finally, one day my wife and I rode down to the feeder on the ranger to fill it with corn. Moe was there like usual. I started petting him and scratching his head. My wife hit something in the ranger that made a metal clanking noise. It spooked Moe and he jumped to the side, knocking me down. He probably weighed about 200 lbs now and was sporting some decent cutters. He ended up standing astraddle me. I could already feel those teeth ripping my guts out. He carefully stepped over me, without even brushing me. I stood up, petted him a few times, got in the ranger and told my wife that was it. Wasnt filling the feeder - it was time for Moe to make it on his own. He hung around for about three months before he left or the orange paint wore off and we could not identify him again
Brave man! I ain’t encountered none I wanted to pet or even thought they’d let me pet, lol! We have caught some piglets and shoats that some boys fattened up and BBQ’ed. Those caught young and fed corn or peanuts tasted better than store bought pork.
They losing some serious money then. They’ve all looked like that since I’ve been out there. I’ve got pics of a black sow with a piglet of every color combo you could imagine…black, red, red splotches, black/white, etc. We had a Hampshire running around even the hog dog guys were a little worried about catching. That joker was close to 300# and you could see tusks from 100 yards away. How he slipped the dogs was a mystery. They were one him two different times and lost him. Every time it was at the beaver swamp. Speculation was he’d get in the water and swim to one of the little islands out there.
Haha! Cameras have come a long way. I ran some cheap Walmart cameras for while on trails and was pleasantly surprised at some of the pics. That’s a great pic too!!
These two bucks look like littermates, been getting them on this camera pretty regular. For a cheap $25 dollar chinese camera it takes pretty good pictures in the daytime, but nighttime they are really grainy. But I can't really see the IR flash like I can on so many cameras and it doesn't seem to spook the critters like most of mine at night. Just got one of those cheap Muddy's like Swamp is running to try, but you need to watch it with them, some models have a 1.5 second delay on the shutter, which is at least double if not more than any other camera I have looked at, and on a trail an animal walking at a decent pace is liable to go clear through the picture before the camera snaps it.
Yes we do, we just lost four months of our trapping season to the grizzly bear lawsuit, so trapping is only open December 1 to February 28 now in this part of the state, but hunting is still year round.
Thinking of putting a lock-on in there, or just leaving it alone and give them a place of rest. It’s a place you can drive right by and they don’t move. It’s surrounded by some THICK brush. It also will hold water when it’s really wet.
Appreciate the cell camera suggestions. Got 2 of the Reveal Gen 2 on sale for $79 a couple of weeks ago. They’re pretty addicting. I can see myself with 10 more.
Still using my card cameras. Big 10 and this buck coming through morning and evening like clockwork. Hoping he’ll keep that pattern for 6 more weeks, but I doubt it.
I have 6 out in my area, my son has 3, the manager has about 10, another hunter has 5. Through all of them we have the entire plantation covered, lol. I just post mine and my son’s pics. The other hunter has a buck who’s main beams turn down that makes it look like a double drop tine. We have some good deer, but we also have the opportunity to let’em grow. Some of these bucks I would’ve already killed on public land, lol. Our county just has good genetics and a bunch of like minded hunter’s around as well. We do have to shoot a ton of does every year though. I’d bet my 27 year old son has killed more deer than Jbyrd and Bucksandbears combined. Notice I didn’t say hunted, just killed. Believe it or not it gets old after a while.
I hunted Kansas 8 straight years for turkeys and it was always the last week of season…end of May. I was always in AWE of the bucks we’d see in velvet and what they looked like then. We’d discuss what we thought they’d become on the trip home, lol. And I never realized y’all had as many quail as you had. At that time of year they are paired up and I was flushing pairs every 150yds it seemed like!

How long ago was this? Late 80s early 90s when Crp was just starting was the height of quail population in my life time. My dad talked about back in the 60s being the golden years of quail hunting in Ks
Probably about 2011 - 2018 or 19. I was really in awe of the quail, turkeys, and dove y’all had. It would take us longer to drive out than kill a 2-3 man limit on turkeys. And at that time, we’d call in coyotes about every other setup for turkeys. We’d also see tons of skunks and coons. Saw my first and only badger out there too. He wasn’t nice! I was heading to a tree to set up and he wanted the same tree…he won and I decided to do a big circle to get another approach on the gobbler, lol!
That’s 2 different bulls that came into together. Not bad bulls for sure. My wife has an archery tag for here. We have about 20 cameras out. Several nice bulls so far and a giant that I will share pictures of after season.
Would love to see this pattern continue another month.
Picked up a new Tactacam Reveal X Pro today from Cabelas. Onsale and got a coupon for trading in an old Muddy camera I don't use anymore, $105 out the door. Going to mess around with it this weekend and maybe upgrade some of our other cameras. The pic above is from a SpyPoint link micro or something like that. Pics aren't great but 100 pics each month for free is hard to complain about.
Thought we’d gotten rid of most of these guys, guess not. We call these our Texas Wannabe’s, lol. They’re wide like a Texas deer, they just never get the tine length like a Texas deer.
Got 3 tenths of an inch on the Turner County farm.
But, that rain line didn't make it this far south down here at the state line. I'm glad it didnt...we're still wet...even on the hill. All the bottoms remain full.
This was the cleacut in the riverbottom last week. The river is just behind the trees at the far backside of that "lake." River is back in its banks now and still dropping.
We only ended up with 1.3” but really needed it. Still didn’t get the main pond to its overflow, but did add some to the wet weather holes and created a few mud puddles. Our cover rows on the dove field will definitely benefit from it. Went riding right at daylight this morning and saw plenty of deer and dove in the dove fields. Saw 8 Tom’s (gobblers and jakes) together up front. And 2 gobblers and 2 jakes together in the back. Saw some hens and poults in the small pines but couldn’t get a count. Everything was active this morning except hogs!
Actually it’s probably long ways from you. Just way closer than me. Little over hour out of Atlanta. Have shown up for four nights in row. It’s my friends camera but he’s up here at moment and I’m in middle of years honey extraction so they are safe. Seems they show up for few days in row normally but then won’t be any for 6-8 weeks. I know guy within mile of there traps them so I’d venture a guess that could be why

I'm 4 hrs from Atlanta...so that closer to WannaBe.
It’s interesting to me as we don’t have them but buddy swears at them. Says they destroy every food plot he has in and the deer become less plentiful.
Can't plant any deer plot with hogs around. Can't even disk up a plot to prepare to plant.....they'll come to that fresh dirt and take over. Root it so bad that you'll about turn the tractor over...lol
Swamp how often do you get pictures or see bears in your area ?
Depends on where my cameras are. If they're on deer corn or a feeder, it's common. If cameras are on a deer trail or scrape, I rarely get a pic. I see their tracks regularly from late spring to early winter.
It's always seasonal....like in other areas. Late summer and fall here is when they shift over into the river bottoms from the vast piney flatwoods swamp area that lies to the east of me. It's a food source thing....hunters putting out deer corn, filling deer feeders, and thousands of acres of live oak acorns along the sandy river bottom....all at once in early fall.
If the palmetto bushes in the flatwoods make berries, we don't see many bears over along the river as the berries ripen in early fall. The flatwoods area covers several counties in southeast Ga & northeast Fl and extends to and includes the Okefenokee Swamp (which is a 700 sq mile NWR and is the core of our bear population down here.
Yeah, y’all keep them things over there on your side of the State!! It’s bad enough one roams through every other year, lol! As far as the hogs, I guess I know where are pigs went, lol. I did get a few pics on the dove field last night about 0130 or so, but I was sleeping. We’re burning tomorrow so that’ll run them off from there for a while. I’ve noticed they don’t like fresh burns. Not saying that’s scientific or anything, just what I’ve noticed at our place over the years. Now once things green up again they’ll get back in those areas. But, the good news is I’ll have a field or fields to do some calling in. Coyotes do like burns.
For sure. Those hog pics are on a lease that's about 100 miles north of my home. Dont get up there much when it's hot weather...but that's about to change with bow season approaching....but, then I'll be after a mature buck and not wanting to shoot a stinkin' hog in a good buck spot....but I likely will arrow a couple or three.
Maybe even shoot a few with the thermal scope & .300BO.
Been hunting that property three years......we've killed only 21 hogs (3 of us).....
So I guess you’re starting to see rubs over that way.
Haven't looked from foot yet. But, been on tractor for over 40 hours last week...didn't seen any near roads, access paths, or plot edges....but they're there.
Headed up to Turner County tract this coming weekend to mow (so I can walk a clean path to a bow stand without getting on a diamondback.)
The coloring in that leg/foot leads me to believe opossum thus my comment about not a very good meal. But I will admit it is not the best pic. We have all kinds of mice, voles, squirrels, woodchucks, and rabbits so not sure why he would even pick up an opossum unless the youngster’s appetite has wore him down.
I love how the coyote in the morning picture uses the shade and shadows from the soybeans as he travels.
That joker must be really hungry to be eating a possum.
Swamp, better take your rifle and get some of those piggies. Doubt y’all got many snakes around with that many pigs. The manager even made mention he’s seen a lot more snakes this year due to our lack of swine.
Two good bo'hogs this morning...one min apart....same trail.
Headed up to this property this Sunday for a couple days of lease maintenance (camp area and road/access mowing.) Gettin' the place ready for bowhunting access (Sept 14th opener)...
Swamp Wolf I’ve got a buddy that lived on the NC coast and says those bear do not hibernate. You being further south , do you see the same thing with active bears year round ?
Swamp Wolf I’ve got a buddy that lived on the NC coast and says those bear do not hibernate. You being further south , do you see the same thing with active bears year round ?
That is correct. They don't hibernate, but they do go into a state of torpor (lethargy) in winter here. Laying up in bigger swamps and larger tracts of roadless timber where they have less chance of being disturbed. On warmer days, they may move around a bit, but usually from late December to late March...bears "vanish" down here.
Occasionally, I see bear sign on into January, but it's rare. And, by the full moon in April...they are all active again.
It's actually a 6 foot long plastic bag that net wrap for a round baler comes in. Not sure how it happened. In pics it looks to me like his antler might actually be stuck through the bag. I bet it was wild there for awhile
From my back yard. I have a simple gravity deer feeder out of PVC filled with corn. Also a bit of corn dumped on ground in front of the camera too. Way more fun than a little bird feeder.
8 and 10 pt coming through er’ evening and most mornings. Got a bachelor group of 8 or so still hanging strong. anticipating a break up in the next few weeks.
Yes sir, you in the part of KS that gets on all them big time tv shows? Not sure how your state lays out relative to big buck areas.
There really are big bucks from one end of the state to the other. I personally believe it would be hard to say what part of the state is best. Some areas have more deer than others but there's still big bucks there. I've seen a few hunting celebrities in my area but a lot of the shows are filmed further south and west of me were there's more guides and outfitters.
Yes Sir, I’ve seen some Kansas mounts and sheds while out there, I know y’all grow some big one! Seen a guys rattling antlers that were over 160” too. Sounded like 4x6’s when clanking them together. I was turkey hunting NW of you.
A couple bucks that will be hard to let walk but hope they make it another year. Just applied for my bobcat tag yesterday, starting to get more and more on camera.Good luck everyone this hunting season!
Just got off tractor. All mowing is done. I'm dog tired. Too tired to do any walking and looking for hogs.
Saw 7 pigs yesterday and 1 pig today from tractor. Also saw a polished off 2 yr old 10pt and a crooked 8 pt, and a velvet small 8pt. They always let the tractor get right up on em.
1000 acres with roads and firebreaks all over it. It's ready to hunt now!
Just got a shower. About to head over to Ashburn for some quick supper.
Gonna do some cell camera rearranging in the morning...then head back home by noon.
Will be back next week to put out some sd card cameras. Also to prep some stand locations.
I was baiting one of my bear stands last night caught some eye shine with my headlamp. Had a cub at 25 yards that wouldn't take a hint, even though I had the 4 wheeler idling right behind me. Decided I'd rather bait in the morning.

Lol that’s hilarious!!
I bait during day light hours only! And I’m still scared lol.
Yeah best deer I've ever caught on trailcam. Pretty good size for Missouri. Also, as far as velvet goes, about half of my bucks on trail cam have shed and that 11 is one of the few that hasn't. I haven't got a pic of that 10 this week so I don't know whether it has.
Unfortunately neighbor sent me those better pics of him. He arrowed him this evening but hasn't been able to find him. If he pulls though I might get a Crack at him later if I don't fill my tag with a muley first
