Re: Talk about a jump - 10/26/24 02:19 AM

I have one with a super 14 223 barrel on it. I had a 35 rem barrel and gave it to my brother. They are fun to play with. I called in and shot a couple coyotes with mine.

Lot of barrels to choose from on Ebay but be prepared as they are proud of them. On the plus side I heard the original maker is looking to make more according to the internet buzz.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/26/24 02:12 PM

I would stay away from the 30-30 and .35 Rem barrels. When I was shooting IHMSA back in the early 80's, the guys with those barrels didn't enjoy them much. A 7x30 Waters or 7mm Intl Rimmed in a 14" barrel is a nice combo. Pachmayr used to make a grip and fore end set that isn't as pretty as the wood but your hand will like it better. Don't know if they are still made. In a 10" barrel the .357 Maximum is sweet and unbelievably accurate.

If you decide to scope it, don’t put a thumb extender on it.

Think 444 marlin brass will work as a 410 shell

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/26/24 09:13 PM

The 7-30 waters is a solid deer killer, recoil is not bad at all.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/26/24 09:15 PM

IMO there isnt a better choice for a hunting pistol.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/26/24 09:17 PM

Have two 7-30W pistol barrels and a 7-30W carbine barrel and a .223 26 inch bull barrel. Mine are very accurate.

Hooked on em here. More calibers to choose from then I can afford. Settled for now on the 45 colt as oughta put an anchor on any pig one crosses paths with. Got a 17 Remington barrel to play with as well. if don't blink you can see he hole appear when light it off. A 45/70 for when want my teeth to rattle too.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/27/24 12:07 AM

308 is not chambered in contenders to much pressure those were done in the encore frames.

Oh man I've had several contenders through the years. Lots of fun.
I go through phases with them.
Now you have me wanting to get another one.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/27/24 05:27 PM

I was thinking of the Encore frame for the .308.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/27/24 06:26 PM

The 45/70 was pretty intense for sure. Got a 17 Rem, 222, 357max, 44mag and 7-30. Not sure what else I need. Cabelas in Rapid City has one in the gun vault with 3 barrels. Can’t remember what they all were. Sure a fun gun to hunt and plink with.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/27/24 06:54 PM

It’s a ssk 10” 300 blackout/whisper barrel, sharps bro pistol grip, s&b fs1913 brace, Leupold VX freedom 1.5-4x 20mm, and a cgs Hyperion suppressor.
Super quiet and light enough for the kids.

Your correct in that they are nice in 308 I had one before I was 20 it was accurate and fun shot one deer with it but ended up selling it to My dad and he eventually sold it off as well.

I sold it after having a nice buck at 60 yards and I had no rest on that side. count not hold steady or tell if my shot would break its leg blow out it's spend or hit it right. so let him walk. sold it the next day if not that day.

Re: Talk about a jump - 10/27/24 07:57 PM

My first barrel was the 14 inch 35 Remington
I loved it , the deer hated it :-)
I’ve got many barrels today
Great gun and lots of choices
