Oh yeah, thanks ! It starts here at noon. Love to see the Akitas and Rotties. Akitas are about the most gorgeous dogs there are, to me.
Right now the parade is on. I look for the horses. Police and military units are great.

I’ve met a few Akitas in my career and they are incredible!
I must say I am fond of the smaller Asian breed, the Shiba Inu! Both have strong personalities!

Yes the Japanese Akita is quite different than the American type. I love the tri colours of the American type, their size, and the power build they have. A no nonsense dog to guard the property. The dark edged spots they have , with that black face is striking to me. Gorgeous dogs.

I have a favorite in every group, none have been called yet. As you can see bias to English bullies.

I do like the hound group, Hoss. Those coursing runners are amazing for speed. I do like the mini fox hounds too, those wee beagles

Westminster is my favorite dog show. The man who narrates that show, who introduces the dogs, has an iconic voice that is second to none.

They are all so amazing! Even the toy group!
But oh those hounds!
Used to dream of owning Irish Wolfhounds. Along with a great mansion and a study with a polar bear rug and hedge labyrinth gardens. But then I remembered I am poor lol

The show used to be a big event when my kids were younger. we'd all sit and watch together every year.

Re: National Dog Show! - 11/29/24 02:22 PM
It is pretty common for hunting breed dogs in bench shows to have no hunting ability. When I was on the fringes of coon dog competition (decided its not for me) I never understood how a dog could be a champion in the looks dept, but could not go tree a coon by itself as part of the competition. Those purty dog contests dont have anything at all to do with hunting.

I missed it again? As my bride says, ding-dangit. Real potty mouth.

I would not! Disaster of an airway/breathing doggy! Although so are your sweet bulldogs, unfortunately!!
I will say, I’ve never seen such a good looking pug in my career. They’re all bug eyed and overweight and have KCS and ear infections

Hey Smasho since you know lots about dogs I wonder if you could recommend a breed or hybrid. My wife is ready to get another dog (or probably two so they have a playmate). She wants smaller (10-15 pound range) hypoallergenic lapdog that would be good with our little grandkids. I also want one that could be useful and be a companion on the trapline. Not looking for one to fight coyotes or anything like that. But one that would help find cats and canines on a drag after a snowstorm covers the drag marks and also scent mark on coyote and fox pee posts. What do you think?

And....along with Dan's question, I have another too....did you see that Akita ? He was gorgeous. The markings on him were stunning. And of course, his build, very strong and big boned. A serious dog. I love when the interior browns and reds of the spots are lined along the edges with very dark brown or even black. Just striking with colours and beauty. Of course, they didn't show him long enough for me. The Rottie was nice too.

I guess I should have said minimal shedding instead of hypoallergenic. But I'll look for a spaniel mix. Thankyou.

I missed them both! Was in and outta the kitchen!
Not gonna be a small dog perse, but I got a Karelian Bear Dog puppy about 2 months ago, and he is an awesome dog. Very smart, good listener, and eager to please. And he's a great trapline dog, he snapped a #1.5 one time and ever since he doesn't look twice at a set, he figured out free food isn't free lol

Smasho, I'm a smooched faced dog lover. Before bullies we raised boxers not as smooched in but still short muzzled. Also loved Boston terriers. But wouldn't own one want to hyper for me but had friends and family with them loved playing and visiting lol.

Dan, I'm not smasho buy my mom had a miniature golden doodle. He didn't shed he fell in that pound range. But he would fetch and sniff out every treat that was hidden. Also smart feller.

Little Jez is a nice lap sized dog but she LOVES the woods and fields and she marks just like a fox would!!! Finds little shrubs and backings and pees on it all!

I do enjoy watching, but can't for the life of me understand how you can judge if one certain pug is a better pug than that foxhound is a foxhound. Is Michael Jordan a better basketball player than Tom Brady is a football player?
