Collapsible Cage Traps - 12/19/24 11:22 PM
Hey all... I'm just getting started trying to catch bobcats here in Colorado. I have a cheap trap from Amazon, and it's, well, cheap. I want to purchase a couple more, and I wanted to see what you all would recommend for collapsible cage traps. I've searched all over the internet (and this forum), and it looks like Tomahawk is the only option other than the cheap amazon stuff. In my search, I found an old thread on here stating that Tomahawk donates to anti-trapping, so if there are other brands to look at, I'd gladly go with them instead.
Oh yeah, and I really want to stick with collapsible just for ease of storage and carrying. I'm not a large person, so hauling around a solid trap isn't a good option for me (not to mention, my storage shed is already jam packed).

Great tip for hauling around solid or if you wanted to carry multiple collapsible or sold traps is a hand truck/two wheel dolly with rubber wheels. Bungee cord to keep em attached to the dolly.

Sorry that you are a small person
The only person I know that makes traps would be a guy in wa
I would suggest going to the gym or buying some weights and get stronger

I'm that guy in WA that makes them. Double door 11x17x40 and 11x11x32.
Maybe share some pictures tomorrow when I have time.

I like getting in to places where it wouldn't be practical to carry a traditional box trap. Here's a pic from elk season of the drainage where I'm currently setting my trap. Is it necessary? Nah. I know from reading this forum that plenty of people are successful in easier, more accessible spots. I enjoy getting out in the backcountry, though. So I'm looking for what works to help me keep doing what I like doing.

Looks pretty catty. If I walked in there I would set as many as I could carry. A pair of horses or mules is nice when going where you cant drive

Thanks Wolfdog, You beat me to it.
Those traps weigh 18 pounds so I don't know that you could pack a lot of them far. A lot of them will go in the back of a pickup though.

The 11x17x40 I will ship anyplace in WA for $300. Out of State it would be $280 + shipping. I'm currently out of the 11x11x32 and I will have to make some more this spring. With inflation I am reluctant to price them at this time.
Made out of 2"x2" 10 gauge, doors 2"x2" 6 gauge.

Ah, dang, I missed this and already ordered the tomahawks. If I stick with it and need more I'll hit you up, though. As long as I can get whatever I'm carrying strapped to my elk hunting pack frame, I'm golden. Even a couple of them strapped back there would weight less than an elk hindquarter, though I've found that even the single cheapie one I've got now is pretty awkward to maneuver through any sort of brush.
