Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 04:23 PM

I'm worried about mine at the lake with no snow and all the freezing temps. Had it freeze up once before.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 04:24 PM

Same here with cold and little snow. Its no fun for sure

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:18 PM

You mean the pipe or pipes froze, right. Apparently not buried deep enough? Next summer might need to run some heat tape.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:22 PM

That's bad

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:24 PM

It always works good so long as nobody over does it with the toilet paper. The grandson uses to much toilet paper and gets the pipe plugged up.Then he tells no one so the water then gets backed up into the pipe where it then freezes over night.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:33 PM

That sucks Bruce, hope you can get it thawed out and working.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:34 PM

Keep a bucket with a lid set by the comode, tell the boy to put his paper in there. Burn it later. Did that for years at my trapping camps to eliminate that problem.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 05:38 PM

Just have your grandson flush every so many wipes.

And get your grandson highly involved with the repair job. Bet he won't do that again, Lol.

If toilet paper can make it through the toilet, how does it clog up in the pipe?

It usually starts at the baffle in the tank.
Charmen is the worst…..
Low flow toilets don’t help…

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 07:09 PM

When we rake leaves in the Fall we pile them over the septic line and leave them until Spring. It insulates the line. Some years without much snow, like this year, we will get frost 4 feet down but haven't had a problem. Lots of people that don't do that wish they had.

I guess if the plumber didn’t do a clean job I could see that happening.

I went into my septic tank one day and tore the baffle off after a clog. Stood to the side while the waterfall erupted!

Excess paper goes in the garbage, not the heavy soiled stuff but everything else...

You guys are weird,,,,, my tank has an inspection post over the baffle with a riser and a cap.
I can pull the cap and push the clog through the baffle if needed.

I have had my tank pumped once in 40 years……

If he doesn't listen, restrict your grandson's hunting, fishing and trapping as punishment. Kids very much need to learn there are consequences to their actions.

I would do that but he gets his grandmother into the middle of it and she caves to him. Then we are arguing.I keep telling my wife the same thing. The kid is not held accountable for nothing.

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 08:17 PM

Still wondering were or how it froze Might just be stopped up tight. Unless you have drafts in your crawl space it shouldn’t freeze Heat from the tank itself will stop most from freezing ink you got bigger problems

Re: No fun today - 01/08/25 08:35 PM

When my buddies son was younger, like 12ish, he was only allowed to use the basement toilet and they kept a hockey stick in stead of a plunger there. His friggin poop would plug the dang thing up! He had to spear it a few times before he flushed. Not sure what kinda diet he was on, was like trying to flush a coil of farmer sausage.

I am sorry to hear that Bruce. You need to make your wife understand that she is hurting your grandson by not teaching him how to properly behave. He will likely face consequences in the future from others who won't feel sorry for him, that it would be best to avoid.

To many women ruin young men by trying to be kind without thought of the consequences. This is why strong father figures are critical to the development of good young men.

Wow Bruce, that stinks!

Some of these answers and your responses had me laughing so hard I had to go to the can myself crazy

In all seriousness sounds like you need roto-router.
And buying single ply toilet paper will help even if he makes a mitten out of it to wipe. Absolutely never anything as thick as Charmin

Get a few loads of sheep/goat manure and put it over the area. Then cover w/straw bales.

This is a good idea. The heat from the composting manure will warm the ground and the straw will help to hold the heat in.

My grandsons are restricted to one bathroom at my daughter's house
It's lack of drinking water from my observation
Them boys can go most of the day even in the summer without a drink

Re: No fun today - 01/09/25 03:41 AM

Too much clean water going into the septic. Get a valve installed installed that you can run your shower and bathroom sink outside to "wherever". Your kitchen sink and toilet will still run to the septic and Will Not freeze. Its truly a blessing here for us in cottage country. And as others have said, dont clear any snow that is on top of your tank or lines.

Our grey water is set up to run separately like that.
