Trump said he will protect the Second Amendment - 01/20/2512:11 AM
In his rally speech today. It was a pleasure to hear a President of the United States speaking to America favorably about gun rights instead of all the anti-Second Amendment rhetoric we heard from Biden and his Administrations the last four years. This thread was made just for discussion about gun rights under Trump vs. Biden. I think gun owners will be safe under Trump. Hope I am not wrong. It would be nice to get pro-gun people to lead the ATF.

I hope he does, the idea is death by 1000 cuts and small steps to erode away at the 2nd, I hope someone restore’s what we’ve lost but I doubt that will happen.

Most countries don't allow private gun ownership, or highly restrict it. The democrats would and keep trying to restrict US gun ownership. I don't continued US gun ownership is an assured thing at all.

But like was said, it's a red herring and will always be. Kind of like abortion and homo rights. It will always be an issue any politician can say they need more money in their re-election coffers so they can "fight" for the pro or anti choice.
Unfortunately when you get a majority liberal political bench, they tend to act sparingly on banning.
The opposite is also true when you get a majority conservative bench. They tend to act sparingly on strengthening.
If either she does too much to make their move permanent, they kill the emotional cash cow for re-election money.
No matter what, no mater the issue, IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY!!!

I would like to see the same done with "antique" guns that are treated as Class III firearms. The old Marble's Game Getters, Steven's Bicycle Guns, Ithaca Auto-Burglers and H&R Handi Guns. They are all single or double barrel shotguns that are 100 years old but by current law are illegal because most had 10-12 inch barrels. They are a unique piece of history and are "cute".
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/20/2501:50 AM
In a Republic, as we were founded, the rights of the individual and minority are protected. In a true democracy, as in where they want to take us, the rights of the minority or individuals aren't protected. It's the majority that decide what the rules and laws are.

Excellent explanation.
Those unconstitutional laws can then be challenged in court. It is a long and expensive procedure. Some cases make it all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States but many are ruled on by lesser courts.
I have a lawyer friend who only does 2A cases and he is very successful at winning them.
Unfortunately, liberals tend to enact unconstitutional anti-2A laws with more frequency than they can be ruled on by the various courts.
Also, like bowhunter said, neither side seems to want to rock the boat very much. It keeps the issue relevant and keeps the money flowing.
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/20/2501:58 AM
Our founders knew that no right or rule of law was set in stone and that's why they gave us the 2nd amendment as the last line of defense against tyranny

As far as the 2nd amendment, yes. We already did as far as I'm concerned. If we have to pay for a Right, it's not a Right, it's a privilege. (Here in CT, the "Constitution State", it's $70 for a five year permit) If our Rights end at the state border, it's not a Right, it's a restriction. Yet compared to a driver's license, which IS a PRIVILEGE, a 16 year old can drive cross country and back, but CC (or open) by a law abiding U.S. citizen is not reciprocal.

CT is one of those states also. The Dems that have run this state for years took no time at all after Sandy Hook to ban a long list of so called Assault Weapons. If you owned one already, you had to get a certificate (i.e. REGISTER). If we didn't own one, we're SOL. Then for a few years we could own "others", the Dems caught up to those loopholes and banned those too.

Good point about safe for four years............what I feel is if hunters...law enforcement.....and gun enthusiasts....don't start planning fot Trump's successor....4 years go fast.....they will have a repeat of biden type authority......and gun ownership is in jeopardy big time....

I do think President Trump is pro 2nd amendment... and it's a good thing he is in power..... but things change.... don't get rid of the ARs or ammo stockpiles just yet !!

" Take the guns first due process latter" " I don't like the idea of them" referring to suppressors. And of course the bump stock ban.
I think my idea of pro gun is different. Pro gun is pro all guns not only approved guns with certain features and being for zero restrictions even when it's not popular in a poll after a shooting.

Trump is a city man. High roller that has associated with people like him his whole life. Never needed to arm his self or protect chickens and livestock. Never hunted for food or fun or got into any shooting sports. Like a lot of NYCityers he has is prone to run his mouth. I think there are people around him giving him good advice on the 2nd and the reason it was recognized so many years ago.

Yes he has or had a New York permit ( may not be valid with the federal conviction.
But that only makes the case for rules for thee not for me being only the very Ritch and connected could obtain a permit in New York at the time

I'm sure he did, and it's not surprising. I'm sure Harris wasn't lying when she said she owns a gun, too. It's not that politicians, especially lefties are afraid of the guns, it's the power that a gun gives someone that scares them. They have no problem grabbing that power for themselves, they just don't want you and I to have that that power too. Biden, Harris, and Trump all get protected by dudes with full-auto subguns everywhere they go. Do you think they want you and I to have the same power?
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/20/2501:19 PM
as the constitution is written, every federal gun law is unconstitutional, and every state gun law goes against the SC decision of marbury vs. madison. so I pay little attention to them

No it's not OK but it's how our system was made to work. Hold those accountable that do. It's harder to pass through congress than one individual. Eventually the courts should shoot it down.
Bi pass the system sign anti gun executive order Then claim to be pro gun.. Then still have blind followers believe your pro gun because you said so. But hey he is better than the other guy and I can over look it if it's my guy. Right?
Now here come the personal attacks from the Trump walks on water blind followers crowd. The you must have voted for Harris and every other brain dead thing they can think of because they can't possibly admit their guy has faults. It's sad really . Yes I have voted for Trump in every election and primary. Yes I think he is the best president we have had in my lifetime. BUT I won't blindly follow him or pretend he is strong on things he is not and clearly proven so.
Hopefully he will do better this round. Maybe after the next high profile shooting he will get on stage and flat say it's the people not the gun. Maybe bring up big rental truck bans or background checks for rental trucks and buying knifes and how ridiculous it is to blame the gun. We will see how he reacts . I'm hopeful but not willing to make a bet on him.

It also went through congress AND also had Republican support!!!! Bid didn't do it alone. Trump did. All the other restrictions I listed were under Republicans .
Now Reminf me who says thay are pro gun yet pass or executive order gun restrictions?
Maybe go back to the respect thread. I have more respect for the democrats they are open and honest about wanting take the guns. The Republicans lie and say thay are pro gun then pass restrictions.
I guess it's like a domestic violence situation and Republicans embrace the abuse.

It's about incremental steps and the fact how all the pro gun Trump fan boys like to try to pretend his actions don't match his words. Or the biggest gun control items were not done under republicans
Currently it's been shot down as well as the brace deal and is a non issue. The issue is the blind followers willing to excuse it and /or pretend it didn't happen. O it's OK because I don't like bump stocks any way at least it was not more right! He is still a true blue pro gun guy though.
Sad so many can't just admit he is what he is has his faults/weak spots and enjoy the day.. Pretending he is something he is not and defending the actions is a wast of time. It's a great day and been 4 years delayed.
Want to keep and get lost rights back quit excusing actions when done by republicans would be a good start I think. When my kids do thing wrong I call them out on it. I guess your politicians get a pass if it's your guy. Wonder why we keep loosing rights?
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/20/2503:46 PM
So Trump did nothing and took away no rights, got it. I don't care what a politician says, I care what they do. Bump stocks are legal, why people keep bringing this up is beyond me.

No Trump did take them away the courts gave it back. See the difference. Government worked the way it was designed for once. The kicker Is it was shot down due to Trumps judges.
The point is he should not be believed Because of his actions.

Bump stocks and pistol braces are NOT 2A issues. They are commerce issues.
Let's say cars are a constitutional right. Then let's say someone put NO2 on their car and killed a whole bus of kids.
As a reaction the president at the time makes NO2 illegal to own. Would that be an attack on that constitutional issue?
Now I do disagree with Trumps view on rd flag laws, but I do believe, like all presidents sometimes do, he spoke before being educated on the issue. Time will tell on this issue.
I am not disagreeing with you on not liking banning bump stocks and pistol braces, but those items have zero to do with 2A. It was low hanging easy commerce fruit to appease the emotional masses that he knew would get overturned in court. It also averted attention to an add-on and not banning of a firearm.
Trump was able to grin and say I tried, honest I tried, as the SC overturned the issue. Notice how Trump did not express his "disappointment" at the SC decision and the issue died.

You dont.let your kids or dogs do things you don't approve of you let them know . But if it's your Guy with an R well he says what I want to hear and is better than the other guy so I will pretend he is what he says on the issue even though I can see his actions show differently.

Hopefully he will do better this round. Maybe after the next high profile shooting he will get on stage and flat say it's the people not the gun. He eo a ban on bump stocks With NRA support. It was eventually overturned by Trump Judges. It set the stage For the Biden white house to push th A T F to go after pistol braces and declare them sbrs. A lot of peo got in on the free registration of sbr during that time. That was also determined by the court that The ATF went out side it's power to determine that and only congress could make that change.
Both are thing of the past. And it can be argued and is That it was a a planed move by Trump to about void it geting passed in congress( hard to get rid of) knowing it would not stand in the courts so was a 4 d chess move. I would love to believe this but it very hard when Trum has said things like take the guns first due process latter and I don't like the idea of them.when talking about suppressors.
Regardless fingers crossed he will do better this round and the garbage has been tossed out . It's time to celebrate.

I like him but have a long memory and don't easily discard comments from the most powerful man in the world lightly. "Take the guns first due process later" Is very concerning and shows his state of mind.
Honestly that bothers me more than the bump.stock ban by a long shot. Neither was good but at least the bump stock ban can reason be argued it was strategic play. Hard to explain that statement away and shoots a hole in the strategic play argument for me at least.

Unless something has changed in the last few months, I can still get any firearm I want. SBR’s or even fully automatic. Granted it takes a stamp, but I can still own them. Curious if anyone out there has ever been “raided” or even stopped and questioned about your weapons while traveling or hunting or even shooting?

I lost nothing personally I never liked bump stocks so never had one. Full auto is not my thing either It's fun for a mag or two then just expensive wast of ammo.
He was willing to sell out? debatable. yet for the last time his other commen lay doubt to it was planed. Excuse it, blow it off if you want, it's our guy after all right. Just remember it was our guy in 86 and why you can't afford a happy switch or get a new gun equipped with one. Plenty of Republicans vote for gun control and we incrementaly loose more each time. Guns are my thing like really my thing and I don't take this stuff lightly. Compromise means we just lost some more we won't get back. To.mamy are good go along with it as history shows when it's Republicans doing the restrictions. The same people would throw a fit when dems push the same thing.

What Donald Trump's 'Concealed Carry Reciprocity' Means for Gun Rights Story by Alia Shoaib • 2mo • 3 min read feedbackIcon Topics mentioned in this article US Elections US Elections
Donald Trump promised to sign "concealed carry reciprocity" legislation if he won a second term in office.
The policy would allow gun owners with a concealed carry permit from one state to legally carry their weapons in other states.
Every state in the U.S. permits some form of concealed carry, but the regulations can vary widely.
Best Walking Shoes for Men to Wear All Day Without Discomfort Men's Sneaker Best Walking Shoes for Men to Wear All Day Without Discomfort Ad Some states do not require a permit to carry concealed weapons, while others demand permits, stipulating certain conditions. States such as California and New York have particularly strict requirements.
Trump spelled out his intention to change the law in a 2023 speech, stating: "I will protect the right of self-defense everywhere it is under siege. And I will sign concealed carry reciprocity. Your second amendment does not end at the state line."
Trump has long campaigned on a pro-gun platform and all three times he has run for president he has received an endorsement from the National Rifle Association (NRA) firearms rights lobby group.
Newsweek reached out to Trump's campaign for comment via email.
The NRA's official policy goes even further than Trump has promised, advocating for what they call "constitutional carry," which would allow individuals who can legally possess guns to carry concealed firearms without needing a permit.
Best Walking Shoes For Seniors To Maintain Perfect Balance Catenize Best Walking Shoes For Seniors To Maintain Perfect Balance Ad This more lenient policy is also supported by other pro-gun groups, including the National Association for Gun Rights.
Democrats and groups that advocate for gun control have long opposed "concealed carry reciprocity."
In 2017, during Trump's first presidency, House Republicans passed the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, before it stalled in the Senate.
The Democratic National Committee said at the time: "An NRA pet project, this legislation would force states with more stringent gun standards to comply with looser regulations in other states, risking our public safety and making it more difficult to enforce state laws that save lives."
Everytown for Gun Safety, a nonprofit group which advocates for gun control, has also criticized Trump's pledge to enact the concealed carry policy in his second term.
"Trump's vision for America: Guns everywhere, for anyone, with no questions asked," they wrote on Instagram in October.

President Joe Biden enacted various policies to try to stem gun violence throughout his presidency. Trump has promised to undo them.
"In my second term, we will roll back every Biden attack on the Second Amendment—the attacks are fast and furious—starting the minute that Crooked Joe shuffles his way out of the White House," Trump told a meeting of NRA members in May.
Kamala Harris, by contrast, ran on a campaign of tightening gun control, including introducing universal background checks and an assault weapons ban.
Trump has signaled that he intends to loosen gun control laws through executive action and replacing Steven Dettelbach—branded by the President-elect as an "anti-gun fanatic"—as head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

I hope he stick to it and it gets through both houses. They have all 3 branches and good court. But they had all 3 branches the first 2 years last time and went the wrong way. Only takes a few rinos and high pro shooting to get sold out.
Hopefully that won't hurt to many feelings but it probably will.

I will go get my testosterone shot while you contemplate your masculine answer.
I You are no familiar with AR options apparently remove the stock and buffer tub they won't work. it's pretty simple.
So factory stocks and buffer tubes were made illegal under President Trump?
I must have missed that one. If that were true, this place and the rest of the AR nation would have went mad. There is no way in hades President Trump would have been elected if that were true.
So think about this PF. The big deal you and blaine county make about President Trump banning optional add ons on ARs and how bad President Trump was on that issue apparently did not relate to the ballot box. I did not see this brought up as an issue by the enemy mainstream media that will do everything possible to sink the USS Trump.
And the people on this site that do not share you or BC's views are exponentially different. I understand your concern as I had those concerns initially about President Trump in his first election. Ask anyone on here. I was not his cheerleader by any stretch.
But when faced with the choice of him or hildabeast, i had an epiphany. Then I realized how my views have changed over the years. I am not consistent with myself from the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Things change that shape our views.
President Trump wanted AR's banned in his book and a mandatory 10 day waiting period to buy any firearm. His position changed and I am glad of it. I do not see him in any way a threat to the 2A. I don't like his stance on red flag laws, but last I saw these laws are still a states rights issue. So even if he has a bad opinion on this as it relates to the 2A, federally it doesn't matter as there are no federal red flag laws.
So i ask you to consider your stance and look at things as to where we are now and where we were. President Trumps son is keeping him informed on the state of 2A in the US. President Trump will not enact federal red flag laws or ban any firearm.
Now as to things being made illegal bureaucratically, I would point you to President Trump saying he would fire the head of the BATFE. That dude retired quick (1/18/25) and left the position open for a new appointee. So buckle up and let's see who President Trump selects as the new BATFE director.
Lots of good things happening now. If you didn't see his speech today, you missed a thorough beating of the previous administration. IT WAS AWESOME!!
So, I say to you, give it time. Things are gonna happen fast.
You hav made plenty of mistakes in your life as we all have. You need to give the same grace you hoped to get when you made your mistakes.
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/21/2501:17 AM
hippie They don't get a prize for doing what they put there to so and doing that does not excuse them for doing the opposite when they do. Giving them a pass is why wre keep losing more. Hopefully The Republicans won't fight Trump This go around like last time and things get done at light speed. and in the right direction.
I sure thought the hearing protection act would pass the first two years controlling all 3 branches. I was disappointed. Not going to be so trusting this time. Hopefully but not going to be surprised when things go south. I will be happy to be wrong and surprised when they go right.

what percentage of the American Electorate saw the Hearing Protection Act as a top priority?
hippie I have had nfa items for nearly 2 decades. Have a suppressed braced pistol I put together for my youngest to deer hunt with when he was 6 and recoil sensitive in 300 black out. Due to our cal restrictions a brased pistol was legal for deer on public land for deer an sbr is not..
Bowhunter Trumps move embolden Biden and the ATF .
go back and read my post slowly.
Remove a bump stock and buffer tub and it won't function. you have to replace it. He threatened to lock people up for up to 10 years and give them a 250k fine if they did not get rid of their privet property.
I get it you like the restrictions and gun control losses of freedom as long as the BRA says it OK and republicans push it.

what percentage of the American Electorate saw the Hearing Protection Act as a top priority?
2, maybe 3 percent???
you're delusional if you think otherwise.
Did u ever make a claim to any such thing? Nope only said the pro gun only reason we have gun rights Republicans sure are not interested in protecting those rights historically.

You're full of something.
I have posted news articles to two anti-gun laws Biden done, and you're still whining about something Trump did. I also posted one article where Trump eliminated Obama's red flag law.

No reason for me to even respond.
Again Do you expect democrats to be pro gun? I expect them to be anti. I also expect Republicans not to support any gun control. pretty simple . I see your ok with some Republican support of gun control as long as they push a little back. They have supported the biggest and worst gun control ever pased but hey look they pushed some small things back. All good right. This is exactly how we got where we are.

sounds like you got your panties in a wad because your priorities aren't popular enough to merit spending political capital.

No I expect them to do what they were elected to do. Instead many of the Republicans fought trump along with the democrats on everything. But om.sure you want to over look that.

no one ran on passing the Hearing Protection Act.
This ol' boy from Arkansas would have liked to seen that pass too. Unfortunately, the majority of Republicans in Congress are really democrats.
hippie I have had nfa items for nearly 2 decades.

Ok, so in this post you assume a bump stock is a factory item. I know of no manufacturer that has a bump stock as a stock item on their AR build. That makes a bump stock an option not a firearm. So anyone with an AR-15 and a brain would keep their factory stock therefore the firearm was not made illegal by President Trump. The bump stock was made Illegal. A commerce item that, again, is not a firearm. it has no pertinence to the 2A.
So in looking at your side of the debate, by your own admission, it appears President Trump never made any specific firearm illegal.
Not playing gotcha at all. Just going by your words in this debate. So, let's move on from this argument since facts have been established and stop acting like the media when they talk about "full autos" when we know they are semi autos. It is a fact that President Trump never banned any firearm.
Now the BATFE bureaucracy may have banned some items, but that is the fault of that director, not the President. And bump stocks are 100% legal now. No matter what path you think this was accomplished.

Nor mine. Repealing Obamacare during that cycle was my highest priority. However, seeing that most republican congressman are really democrats, that didn't get done either. We conservatives just need to do a much better job during the primaries.

I agree, I would have LIKED to see it pass but completely understand there were higher priorities. The group that wants OTC Suppressors is REALLY small in the grand scheme of things.

no, no, NO!...if *I* want it, that means EVERYONE in the country wants it, and stupid republicans won't give everyone what I want!

How about just don't try to undermine the greatest documents ever written? Does that simplify it any?

Feel free to enlighten Me on what I know and don't. Sure seems like congress could use some help as well maybe you could help them out as well? Maybe clerk for them.and run for office later? We could use some intellectuals in Washington.

Ya, our country is already finished.. To many that can't even take a stand for what's right and prefer to make excuses that make themselves feel better about how they chose to go along to get along and how it's pointless. Men like you would rather attack those willing to say something to make yourself feel better about it . Untill things get bad enough people are willing to risk their comfort we will continue down the course we have been on. Heck can't even take a stand from behind a key board. I expect we will have a 4 year reduction in speed of the destruction but that's likely all it will be.

The ONLY thing to protect ALL our rights is for government to be absolutely sure that we armed citizens are willing to hang politicians from street lamps if they stop recognizing them.

Fact!
2x. Notice how they reacted about Jan 6th and a bunch of unarmed Americans protesting. Now imagine if they were truly there to cause violence. The most well armed population in the world Showed ununarmed and they were running scared. Think about that for a few minutes.
Re: Trump said he will protect the second Amendment - 01/21/2512:51 PM
PF,
you can't name ONE politician who meets your standards. not ONE!
and Donald Trump comes closest to your observation of "Untill things get bad enough people are willing to risk their comfort we will continue down the course we have been on."; but you rag on him, too!

Paul in KY and Nick Freits is Impressive. as well.
You will never like everything about every one and it's OK to call out their weak spots . You don't have to be a blind follower.

I like both Paul and Freitas, but they have compromised some over the years, too. If you insist, I'll dig up some bills they voted for that violate the US Constitution in some way, shape or form.
have either of those guys introduced bills to repeal the most draconian gun laws?

If Trump did walk on water,,you would say"Look,,Trump cant swim".
na that would be making an assumption. Logical maybe because he would have never need to learn but making a statement without anything to back it up is not my style.

evidently PF is not well liked at home, has nobody to argue with him. he has made 60+ posts on this thread alone, trying to make a point that nobody cares about. So he does not 100%. believe Trump, he is still 1000% better than what we had, PF can take his opinion and go pound sand.

I respect your opinion. I back mine up with history. Don't like it ok it's like reading and thinking hard and scary for some people to do.
So far Trump has been knocking it out of the park doing things he said he was going to do. Hopefully that continues on with protection of the 2nd.
But just remember how many politicians are alway pro gun, BUT with their interpretation of what that means and what are reasonable restrictions. Maybe that's your type of pro gun guy? Myself my idea of pro gun guy is any restriction is an infringement. I know Radical and crazy to think shall not be infringed means exactly that and expect politicians to up hold it. Likely to find not a chance but roll over and accept it as its OK its my guy and beter than the other guy is sad and no back bone or solid morals.
Your entitle to live by your code don't get upset if its not up to someone else's standards.

I have a sister ("Saint Susan", we call her), who acts just like you do. Look at Me! Look at Me! I'm better than you!
she's MUCH more altruistic than anyone else in the family...just ASK her!
(actually, you don't have to ask...just listen to her for a few minutes and she'll TELL you!)

One of these days maybe you will learn to come up with something to back up one of your views and also be able to back it up. Until then keep looking for anything you can pick at that helps you feel like your accomplished and intelligent. Believe me I know my spelling suck it's not going to get under my skin. I'm sure glad it give you something to post about though.

My point is that you could have a valid argument but by the time people read what you wrote three times trying to figure out what some words are supposed to be, where sentences should end, etc. your original message has lost all its meaning. I am not a fantastic at spelling either but if you are going to take the time to make a heartfelt post, take the extra couple of seconds to proofread and/or use spell check. People may take you more seriously then.
