Wisconsin Squirrel Slam - 02/28/25 03:06 PM

Finished the season with a first for me. All three subspecies in one area. Public hunting grounds near Burlington WI. To top it off the grey squirrel has some piebald markings on its back. [Linked Image]

Nice mixed bag. That's hard to do at many places. Red, Gray and Fox are species, not subspecies.

Do you get white and black Gray Squirrels up there? In some areas of Ohio, albino and black Grey Squirrels are more common than regular Grey ones.

I've found that a lot of it varies property to property. I've shot 3 black squirrels and one albino out of the same tree stand over the last few years, and seen nothing but greys in other spots. I have seen some areas where there are more blacks than greys though.

That fox squirrel looks different than the ones here. Our's look nothing like a grey. I thought that one was just a big grey.
