What would you like for me to put up for auction?

What would you like for me to put up for auction? - 03/17/25 08:55 PM

Wheelers posted a thread tacked to the top asking for donations for our upcoming Charles Dobbins Scholarship Fund auction.

What would y'all like for me to put up for auction? I have some hand written articles of dad's, I have some of his traps with name tag attached, painted traps that he used to take pictures for his books, old lures, etc. Let me know.

I'd be very interested in anything that belonged to your father, particularly traps with his tag on them or even the old lures too.

I'll dig out one of his traps, and find some of his early lures.

I would think all that you mentioned would be a hot auction item…..especially the tagged traps.
Any belt buckles? Saskatchewan Trappers Association found out that they were hot last weekend! I took this one home…lol

I really like all his books. Bought most of them years ago when you ran a special or something and I think I have most of them. Most people likely don't read much anymore but a collection of the books means a lot to me.

Dad had one that Dean gave him on his table for display. Dad said he would give him 10 dollars if he could do it. We'll he did it. I figured JC would like to have it.

Paul I like knives So if you have a knife that may or may not have had use by your Dad that you might be OK to donate that would get consideration from me However an auction is made up of the items that are for sale I have supported a few with some times donating things to sell and other times I purchased items for sale Either way I was pleased with the event THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT WORKS HARD TO MAKE IT WORTH WHILE

At the risk of being accused of sucking up to the Bossman, I would like to point out that the amount of good Paul Dobbins has done for trapping all across the country is staggering . You would not want to write a check for the total amount of money that has been raised through the auction of his traps and the traps of his father, that he has donated to various trapping organizations over the years. (It would have a lot of zeros on the left side of the decimal point.)

He also donates directly to kids at conventions. My son still has a signed one ounce bottle of lure that Paul gave him when he was about 9 years old at the PA State Rondy. He turned 28 a few days ago and still has that bottle of lure and still remembers how important it was, and is, to him.

I would like to thank him, and all of the other doners to this and other auctions and fundraisers that promote trapping and outdoor related fields.

I am aware of Paul's generosity.

I am also willing to offer a 200.00 opening bid on one of the traps mentioned above.

He asked what I would like and I answered truthfully.

Hey Mike:

My post was not meant to disparage you or your post in any way. I just quoted your original post to illustrate that Paul had already given away the traps your were looking for to prior auctions and it made me think of how many traps he must have donated over the years. Sorry if I offended you in some way - I did not mean to.

Every firearm safety session I do a class on trapping. I bring some of the scents I used trapping. I pass them around for the kids to get a whiff of. When I pass around Woodchipper, I ask them to tell me what they think the ingredients are? They come up with some pretty interesting and sometimes funny answers.

I love the smell of Woodchipper. I think it's my favorite one to get on my fingers when working with it. I sniff my fingers the rest of the day, and Rhonda calls me a pervert. Then I have to resort to closet sniffing. laugh

When I let the kids sniff the various scents, they turn their noses up at most of them. Not so with Woodchipper. Most of them think it smells OK, or even like the smell, as do I.

I'd be interested in seeing some of your dad's handwritten articles and maybe one of those painted traps. They sound really unique.

There's a Newhouse #4 that dad used for beaver trapping and one of my CDRs will be on the auction soon.
