Deep South Gobblers - 03/31/25 09:43 PM
Clay put down the Georgia limit again. One Saturday and one today (Monday.) Expert turkey hunter that knows how to stay with 'em!
I got lucky after 6 hrs on my butt this morning after struggling Saturday & Sunday.
Last week gobblers down here were gobbling a lot. This past weekend it was like a dimmer switch was activated.
This morning was a little better, but weak responses to calling.
We were blessed!!

I don't give a flip about them ground buzzards but looks like a great place for a castor mound set behind you, lol. Seed ticks are in full force already but you probably already figured that out.
Congratulations to all!!!

No snuff cans round here, just real, hairy chested men’s tobacco.
I can sign one of these or a bubble gum wrapper. That’s the same as a snuff can.

They keep trying to reintroduce turkeys here and they get killed off faster than missionaries in an African cannibal camp
Posted By: claycreech
Re: Deep South Gobblers - 04/01/25 08:21 AM
Did you contribute to the unsuccessfulness of the reintroduction efforts? Tell the truth. It’ll be easier that way. It will feel good to get it off your chest. Statute of limitations are probably up by now anyway.

Closed the season out this afternoon with another tight-lipped tom.
A man always wonders how many more seasons he's gonna get to enjoy. I hope many more.
And it's always a blessing to spend time with a good friend, especially when we're hunting!
Clay,
Hopefully I'll see ya in November.
This is a good advertisement for HJM e-bikes....lol

Made it home this evening after a 16 hour drive from pert near Florida to North Missouri. This makes 16 years in a row I’ve made that trek to Patrick’s. Each trip has been a goodun. 42 longbeards toted home in those years has made for a buncha memories and some dang good friendships. Made another trip down there and killed a fine black bear on an incredibly exciting hound hunt that Patrick lined up for me with friends of his. Throw in a wild hog one year and it’s been a mighty successful chance meeting at the NTA convention in Lima Ohio in 2009. The whitetails will be waiting your return come November my friend.

Sweet nice birds. We had to stop on the road for a bunch of gobblers strutting to hens several more off the road at the same place. Still have a few weeks to go here,

Re: Deep South Gobblers - 04/02/25 04:10 PM
Thanks all for the comments. These gobblers here are acting like it's late season, not 1st week of season. A little tough to hunt. Good luck to all of ya'll during your upcoming seasons. Be safe!

Great pics and a great post. More of this stuff is needed.
Also nice to see the foliage down there (when we have snow on the ground here).
Honest question: What are you going to do with the bird now? I quit hunting turkeys because I didn't want to eat them anymore. Best I found was putting them in soup. What's your preferred way to choke these things down?
I understand the peace, solitude and comradery the hunt provides, however.

Calvin,
I love the breast meat cut into nuggets or strips and battered and fried.
The dark meat (thighs and legs) I give away to a local lady that cuts them up and uses the meat in turkey dressing.

I would if my knees were better.

Friend's daughter was able to wait a gobbler out yesterday....he came in following a couple hens...she killed him mid-morning.
This morning...she set up on another gobbler. This one gobbled and strutted all the way in to her gun from the roost.
