Corn and soybeans

Thanks to the tariffs, corn and soybean futures have been up. The golden age is starting to happen.

Would seem to defy logic.........but Chinese tariff's on corn, beans and various forms of meat would not seem to matter. We can live without a lot of plastic junk and Harbor Freight tools, but they still have 1.5 billion mouths to feed. That doesn't stop. Not enough bats, rats and snakes in the wet markets to make up for the loss.

Unless our crops funnel into China through other countries there is no doubt it will hurt markets. China starving? You think their government gives a dam if their people starve or not? There a patient people looking at long term. They will wait and one day the Dems will be in power again is their thinking.

I'll bet they wished they bought more Republicans now, should have hedged their bets a little better, I mean you can own only so many democrats.

It's because other countries tarriff our beans and grain, which makes it cheaper to buy from other countries or grow it themselves. Without the tarrifs against us, our crops are competitive, which drives up demand for them.

In the mean time clean up your plates and eat it all even if you are sick. Should have school cafeteria monitors making sure each kid eat all on their plate.Why ? Because the kids in China are starving !The only advantage of having fat Americans would be if the Chinese are planning on eating us. Maybe time for Hansel and Gretel, look at me, I'm nothing but skin and bones.

If you watch the travel shows, there are a lot of rich, fat Chinese people in their cities, admittedly less than here though.

In America, poor people are many times more likely to die from morbid obesity related issues than starvation. Wealthy people in the US are more likely to be physically fit than poor people in the US.

The value of the dollar against foreign currency has dropped near 10% since the beginning of the year. Makes U.S. exports more affordable.

Best to be fat going into winter could be a long hard winter and we need it to carry us thru.

Chinese are shifting to more beans from Brazil and this long term, but may be doing what they have done in the past and buy ahead when there looks to be issues in trade, crop yields etc. etc.
Might be a really good time for corn farmers and even bean farmers to lock in sales. Most farmers don't like locking in sub $5 corn or low $10s on beans but it may well be the better choice. Now it will be mostly a weather issue.
World corn demand is high and stocks for corn are lower than average. Not so true for beans or even wheat.

I am physically well prepared for a famine. I wish I was less so. Going from being very active to not active, without drastically reducing the amount I ate, was not smart.

The way to make the tariffs work is don't buy their junk. Most the products we import from them we can buy from American built products and other country's. Research it we just don't have depend on them as much as you may think. Just don't buy it!!!

Dirt and Bryce are right, the dollar is down and the Chinese this time of year typically buy from Brazil anyway and have been shifting more to South America over the years.

And we can only grow so much corn for fuel additives.

How is the potash tariff coming along with Canada. Higher fert prices probably means less production.

The old saying will hold, that a farmer will grow his way out of the problem.

The drought is in Argentina and yes their crop is down some, but Brazil's crop will be a record high, so overall soybean production from South America will be big. US may well be shifting about 4 million more acres into corn, mostly from beans as corn is a crop farmers like to grow. Cotton prices are very low so some cotton acres will probably go to beans. We get a lot of potash from Canada, don't know if the fertilizer for spring planting has already been purchased but alfalfa uses large amounts of potash and is usually applied post 1st cutting and late summer or early fall again, so that potash is probably not in the US. Will see what and if tariffs are put on those items.
The Chinese can be doing some US bean buying right now too put some price pressure on Brazil where they buy most of their beans.
Value of the dollar fell nearly 2% just in 1 day.

I believe Argentina is getting far too much moisture. They needed it but not that fast . Argentina Bean forecast was recently cut by 3 million metric tons. Corn is forecast to be down 1 million metric tons from last year.
Brazil corn forecast is also down , Soybean forecast are similar to last year I believe.

Both countries in South America will struggle with transportation as rivers are recently at record low levels not supporting barge traffic.

China has had good harvest the past couple years. Imports were already projected to be down by 50% in 2025.

Look for the media to blame Trump no matter what !

There are quite a few videos on Youtube from China (all appear to be done with a cell phone) showing the huge backlog of shipping containers sitting on loading docks with cancelled plans for shipping.

How far would the stretch be to say trinkets and beads and a few blankets bought this country before.

Perhaps the simplest forms of Trojan horses.

You should have emailed the Tariff Man before he just reduced a bunch of tariffs on Chinese junk.
